 provides an overview of the evolution of the literary fairy tale. Bottigheimer has been at the center of the discussion about the oral and literary influence on fairytale development; she points out that “it has been said so often that the folk invented and disseminate fairy tales that this assumption has become an unquestioned proposition. It may therefore surprise readers that folk invention has no basis in verifiable fact.
