We ate a leisurely breakfast that we made together in his ridiculously fancy kitchen. We were out on his deck looking at the ocean when my cell phone rang. I didn’t recognize the number and my eyes widened a little when I heard the voice on the line. It was Sarah Billings, the author of Damaged.

“Hello, Kat. I was so worried about you when I saw the news. I am happy to hear you are doing OK now. I thought your recovery would go a little faster if you had some good news to make everything better. I would like to offer you the job as Lilly in the film adaptation of my book, Damaged. What do you say?” She asked.

I widened my eyes at Cade who looked puzzled.

“I would love to play Lilly in your movie, Sarah.” I winked at Cade and he grinned at me.

We hung up after finalizing a few details about meetings I needed to go to. She wanted me to be there to audition my love interest in the movie.

“So, Rock Star, it looks like our peace is going to have to be delayed a little while. Things are about to get a shake up around here. Think you can handle it?” I asked him with a smile and a laugh.

“Sweetheart, I’m a Rock Star. I can handle anything.”

Wow. I can’t believe I made it to here. Writing this book has been so much fun and so surreal. I’ve wanted to be a writer since I first learned what writing was. I started writing stories when my family received our first computer as a gift from my great grandparents.  I took a break from writing when I had my son and daughter and then I found my way back. It occurred to me that I was making it such a huge thing. It was a molehill I’d turned into a mountain. I had an endless amount of ideas and I just needed to start writing them down and then pick one to expand on. I’m such an avid reader, it’s taught me a lot about style, and what makes a book good and memorable. This book is only the first of many and every one after this will be better.

I’d like to thank my husband and kids first. My kids are too young to realize that Mommy is writing a book but they notice that I spend a lot of time typing away on the computer. My husband tells me he is just waiting for the day when I can support him and his lavish lifestyle. Haha.

My Mom is the first person who read my book and it was so gratifying to listen to her laugh as I read it to her on a road trip to a book signing. She has already committed to being my assistant and to going with me to all my book signings. I can’t wait to go to the first one and share it with her. She is an inspiration to me because as a single mother, she decided to become a nurse and she didn’t stop until she had accomplished her goal. We all gave up time with her so she could go after her dream and now she is giving me that time back by helping me peruse mine. Thanks, Mom, can’t wait to see all the places we will go.

I’d like to thank my Beta’s Amanda and Lisa for helping me get this book where it was always meant to go. I couldn’t have made it better without you.

To my first readers, thank you for taking a chance with an unknown author. Whether you loved it or hated it, I appreciate you giving me your time. I write for you, to take you to a place you’ve never been, to show you a perspective you’ve never seen, and to make you feel things you’ve never experienced before. I hope you stick with me on this journey; we’re going to have so much fun!
