His fierce grip on the steering wheel was the only thing keeping him from reaching over and tearing the clothes from her body. The scent of her pussy was turning his mind into marshmallow soup and had his cock so hard it actually hurt. Never had he wanted a woman as much as he wanted Megan, and now that he’d admitted he loved her, the passions burning inside him were even more soul-stirring.

“Are you all right?” she asked, giggling. “Are you sure you can wait? You look a little in pain, big guy.”

“Stop playing, Red.” He groaned. “You know I’m barely hanging on as it is. I’m doing my best here.” He heard the growl of his beast mixed in the deep roughness of his voice.

She crossed her long legs, rubbing them together in a seductive, tempting manner. “I never asked you to wait. That was your idea. I was ready to f—”

“Just a little longer.”

As if time itself had sped up, giving his restless cock a reprieve, they rounded a row of trees, and before their eyes, a fortress emerged, the foundation for a home he hoped to share with her. Unlike the luxurious McCarthy cabin, this was more like a home ripped from the most exquisite community in Dallas. The vast two-story mansion seemed out of place in the middle of the woods, but the home itself, without the mingling of a surrounding forest, was sure to impress whoever gazed upon its stone and brick façade.

He truly only hoped to win over one person with his new home, and that was Megan.

“Is this what I think it is?” she asked.

“It depends on what you think it is,” he retorted.

“Is this your home, Dominic?”

The truck came to a complete stop. Turning in his seat, he said, “Yes, but I’d like very much for it to be your home as well.”

Eyes rounded, she stared at him in disbelief. “What about my medical practice?”

He smiled. She couldn’t have made him any happier if she had just told him she loved him again. She hadn’t said no. She simply was concerned about her work. He could manage with that. “Red, I would never ask you to give up your practice, but when you are not working in Dallas, I’d like to spend some time here with you. I’m keeping my residence in Dallas, unless you’d prefer I sell it and just live with you.” The smile that spread across his face felt good, and he hoped she could feel the sincerity in his words.

She arched a brow as she looked at him suspiciously. “Well, haven’t you been a busybody, plotting and planning.” She shifted in her seat to face him straight on. “Do people generally move this fast when they’ve declared their love for each other? I’m sorry if I’m a little naive, but I’ve never been in love before so I’m not at all sure of protocol.”

He laughed. “I’m a little fuzzy on details, too, but if I’m moving too fast, just tell me, and I’ll do my best to slow my roll.”

Her teeth dug into her bottom lip as if fighting the urge to erupt into laughter. He wished she would. He adored the way she laughed, the hearty sound that told him she was happy.

“Slow your roll?” she asked, her forehead scrunched. “Do me a favor, babe, never try to sound cool again. It doesn’t suit a major badass like yourself.”

“No?” he asked, trying his best to sound surprised that she would think that. He really was a badass, and he liked that she thought he was, too. Unless she was kidding.
Was she kidding? God, I hope she’s not kidding.

“No,” she said teasingly.

He placed the truck in park, and they each got out and walked to the door. He took her by the hand and pulled her into his embrace, lifting her into his arms.

“What are you doing?” she questioned, giggling as he took the stone steps leading up to the front door two at a time.

“What’s it look like, sweetheart? I’m carrying you over the threshold.” He kissed her, licking the seam of her lips to entice her to open so he could plunder her mouth, which he did sweetly before pulling away.

Eyes narrowed, she reminded him, “We’re not married.”

He winked. “Not yet, but it doesn’t change the fact that you and I will be living here together as man and wife.” He stepped over the threshold and into their new home.

Her arms wrapped tighter around his neck. “We will?” she asked, her voice a soft whisper of love.

“Oh, yes,” he said knowingly. “Mating law makes it so, and just like any man has the right to do with his wife, I’ll be making love to you every chance I get.”

“You will?” she said in the same caressing voice she used when she was unbelievably happy.

“Oh, yes.” He kissed her lips, kicked the door closed with the heel of his boot, and strolled determinedly up the stairs. Her weight was nothing to him as he carried her toward their master suite. Pushing into the room, he told her, “I think I’ll begin my husbandly duties right now, as a matter of fact.” He tossed her onto the center of the bed.

“You will?” she repeated, gasping as if shocked by his need to ravish her. She took a second to glance around the room. The expression on her face startled him for a moment. She was stunned, and he was glad.

“Oh, my God, Dominic. This room is amazing.” She gave him an incredulous look. “Are you using this house to get me to forget about Lilly?”

He arched a brow in question and swallowed, trying desperately to mask his “busted” face. He failed.

“I knew it. You were never going to talk with me about her.”

He wrinkled his forehead as he drew his brows together in a tight scowl. “How do you know?”

Her vibrant green eyes narrowed, sending a wicked chill down his spine. Damn, she was hot when she was pissed at him. “What happened, Dominic?” Her stern voice was silky, but saucy. “Now would be a good time to tell me or you’re never going to see me naked again.”

“Fine,” he said. “After you left, Lilly attacked me in the parking lot and planned to kill me.” Her eyes widened as he gave her the highlights. “She’s pissed that we killed her lover, and now she wants revenge. If Ryder hadn’t shown up when he did…” He made a face and she didn’t seem to like it one bit. At the same time, Dominic was a warrior, a trained fighter, and she couldn’t worry about him each and every time he stepped away from her. She had to trust him, and he prayed she did.

After a long pause, she said flatly, “Now that wasn’t so hard, was it?” She quirked a brow. “I do think it might be a good idea if we travel in pairs, at least until Lilly has been put down.” She winked at the expression “put down,” and then she smiled. “I really do love what you’ve done with this room.”

His heart warmed, amazed by the woman gazing up at him. “You like it?” he asked sincerely.

“Hell yes, I like it,” she told him, leaning up on her elbows to get a better look around.

“I had it decorated the way I thought you would like it.” He cradled between her legs and crawled up her lean body so he could kiss her lips. “I studied your apartment every chance I got. Learned everything I could about you and told the designer. She really was good at finding things that were so you.”

“Wow, I’d say so.” Her brow furrowed. “How did you know I’d eventually give in to your wily charms?”

He kissed her again, a little nip rather than a full-bodied lip and tongue dance. “I didn’t. I only prayed you would.” His eyelids grew heavy as he stared at the woman who’d claimed his heart and soul. He was amazed at how easy it was to be with her and to talk with her. He wanted everything about her. “I dreamed of having the chance to be with you as I always should’ve been.”

Her eyes watered, and she glanced away from him.

He studied her for a long moment, watching her fight against the emotions inside her heart, pretending to inspect the room, her eyes bright with amazement even through the sea of tears.

“You really like it?” he asked her again, her approval beyond necessary. He had to do right by her this time. No matter the sacrifice he had to make for her, he would do it. She was too important in his life.

She glanced back at him, wiping away the fallen tears. “Oh, babe, I love it.”

“Good. Now say you’ll spend time with me here. Say you’ll stay with me whenever you can, Red.”

She stretched her neck to reach his lips and sweetly kissed him. “I’d like that very much, Dominic.” She kissed him again, wrapping her arms around his neck. “Now make love to me before I go insane.”

She pulled him on top of her, and he chuckled. “I knew you would be the one to cave.”

She slapped his chest. “You know you caved way before me, sex freak. You were practically coming in your jeans as we drove up the driveway.”

“Sex freak?” he scoffed, pulling her beneath him, wrapping her long legs around his hips, his fingers gliding up under her shirt over the smooth skin of her waist and ribs. “Now is that any way to talk to your soon-to-be—”

“Soon-to-be what?” a voice questioned sharply, and they both turned to stare at their unexpected visitor.

Reyes’s voice poured over Megan like hot, sticky honey, and she couldn’t believe the way just the sound of his deep, husky voice made her quiver and her pussy spasm with need.

She and Dominic both glanced to see him standing with his arms folded over his chest, an intimidating glare deep in his expression.

“Please, by all means, don’t stop on my account,” Reyes said, his hand gesturing toward them on the bed. “I’d like to know what I would’ve walked in on if only I was a few minutes later.”

Dominic moved to the side and let Megan sit up. The room swirled with a heightened level of trepidation.

“Reyes…”

“No, really, what were you two discussing? Or should I ask, what were you two about to do?” He took a step closer to her. “I’m curious. Were you planning on telling me about the situation or were you just going to be fuck buddies and keep me in the dark?” He folded his arms across his broad chest and glared menacingly at them both.

Megan stood and walked toward him, her heart in her throat. “I know what you saw must be—”

“What I saw were two people I care about looking like lifetime lovers.” Reyes cast a dark glance to Dominic. “What kind of jackass would I be to come between them?”

“Reyes?” The pleading desperation in her voice was twisted by the knots bubbling up in her throat.

Reyes cupped her cheeks in his hands, his dark gaze softening. “It’s all right, Megan. I get it. You and Dominic have history, a lot of history. You and I have something, too. We have passion, and I believe we have the makings of something wonderful.” He caressed her face, the pad of his thumb teasing her bottom lip. His warm touch tingled on contact. “Megan, Dominic might be the first mate that called to you, the one you’ve never been able to get out of your head, but he wasn’t the last. I am the other mate for you, the one your heart yearns for, the completion of your soul, so I would never allow a little something like Dominic to come between us.”

Her body shook. “What are you saying, Reyes?”

He licked his dry lips. “I know that you and Dominic are a mated pair as I know you and I are. I have no right to ask you to choose between the two of us, so I won’t, but I’ll also not stand back and let him be the only one who gets to be with you.”

Her mouth fell open, her breaths falling hard and fast.

“I’m in love with you, Megan Shaw, and even without the mating instinct, I would have been unbelievably attracted to you. You’re an amazing woman. Your mind, your eyes, the way you speak, everything about you drives me wild, and I want to be with you for the rest of my life. Please tell me that you understand what I’m telling you and that you feel the same way about me.”

At the knock on his door, Sebastian circled around to the front of his desk to greet his very pregnant wife and to shake the hand of his expected visitor. Once he’d received a phone call from Dominic that Reyes’s father had stopped by for an un-fatherly visit, he jumped into alpha mode and engaged the matter personally.
