Zoe begun clapping, her sarcastic action influenced other consumed attendants to slowly follow her lead.
Lonard glanced at her with a killer grin sealed by a wink.
Dodging his irksome glare, she turned her body and headed for the back porch but Chairman Longwood stopped her. He saw to it that she got introduced to different coven leaders from many states and foreign countries, some of which she had never heard of in her life.
In spite of the treacherous consequences orbiting her current life, it was a beautiful feeling to be able to be a part of a family with a mission so great. A family that fought for one another at all cost. A family that was absolutely ready to sacrifice all else in order to safeguard the lives of the ones that are dear to them. But also a family with a little too many secrets. A family like Doomsberg Association of Witchery.
Flashing polite smiles and short hand waves, she marched her feet and followed the music that came from the lawn.
Under the sky of DAW wonders were never ending. The music was coming from a band playing a mix of jazz and pop. The wonderment therein was they were on an unseen stage.
Who needs a stage in the world of witchcraft?
The artists were actually playing the music midair. Dancing and jumping as if there was an actual stage supporting their weights.
On the lawn benches, not very far from where she stood, a mid aged woman and her husband were having an ear-catching fight.
“I thought I told you to drink it” the man said glancing at a small bottle of brown liquid.
The woman gasped “What the hell are you afraid of, are you hiding something? Are you cheating on me?” she argued pensively.
“Hell No! I just…just for these few hours I don’t wanna feel manipulated.” he said.
“Oh, so I manipulate you?” the woman said looking hurt “I tell you time and again that I do not read your mind...not unless I think your hiding something.”
“You don’t understand how it feels to know that your wife can read your mind all the fucking time” he mumbled.
“And you have no idea how stressful and unrewarding it can be.” She shot back at him standing. The lady grabbed the bottle and took a sip “happy now” she yelled and threw the bottle at him. The lady left him looking satisfied.
Zoe smirked and shrugged.
Her eyes met the house that had hosted the humeleons and haunted her brain to insanity.
Breaking her reverie, she glanced briefly to Chris who had just joined her.
“Did they find the books they were looking for?” she asked staring at the house.
“No.” he replied.
Few musical minutes past and Zoe remember something she had been meaning to ask.
Leaning her body on the wrapped porch she looked at Chris “By the way, you never told me how you managed to locate me earlier and how did you know where I would be.”
“I didn’t know. Lonard saw the apology text Josh…Ummh Pablo wrote you and recalled they were words they had traded ages ago.”
“Wow! Lonard is the head behind those words?”
“Seems like it. So then I immediately called Liz to ask after your whereabouts.”
“Liz?” her eyes widened with surprise “Liz told you were to find me just like that?”
“No” he half laughed “until I mentioned you were in danger, that’s when she got cooperative.”
“Now that’s Liz.”
“They are incredible right?” he asked, looking at the performing band.
She nodded and whispered “Yeah.”
“I didn’t know those two had it going on?” Chris said looking at Jin and Clay kissing on the moonlight. They looked happy. Clay was removing a lock of hair from Jin’s face. He had a cigar on his hand while doing that and Jin jerked it out of his grasp and threw it to the ground. They ran after each other and Zoe felt a longing in her heart.
“Neither did I.” Zoe admitted admirably with a raised brow.
A mile away, eyes stared teasingly at her. Zoe felt it and turned to meet them. Lonard’s stare crept into her skin, brought shivers down her spine. But it was something she was not ready to admit. She turned her neck quickly, back to the stage and tried to forget the acute feeling.
“Care to dance.” Chris asked, beaming at her.
Taking his hand, she rested her head on Chris’s shoulder and her thoughts traveled to places she couldn’t elude. Josh or Pablo whatever he thinks he is, will have to watch out for her, she thought. It was a good thing they knew two of his identity faces and knew where he was. But he knew where she lived, knew her family, where she slept and what she ate!
If he strikes, she has enough back up to strike right back.
Her eyes lowered to her chain, and she concluded with a thought
what an eventful day
!
“It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly a month since all this begun.” she said to his ear.
“Oh yeah? Well time doesn’t wait.”
“Am just glad today’s events had ended favoring our side.”
“Knowing DAW, you may never know what tomorrow holds Beautiful, those events may just be beginning.”
Zoe rolled her blue eyes at him and rested her head back on his shoulder. She knew he was right.
End of book one.
