Salieri crawled right
back into her corner with a sob. “No, no, no, please, I told you what you
wanted!” she cried.

Seth stood two steps
away, stiff as a statue. “Should I bring the gun?” he whispered.

Domenico sighed, trying
to compose himself, and smiled at Seth. It was a welcome distraction. “That
won’t be necessary. I’ll show you how to break her neck.”

Seth didn’t smile back
though, watching Dom with eyes as glossy as virgin olive oil. The tension in
the room was thick, only broken by a background noise of resigned sobs.

Domenico put his hand on
Seth’s arm and squeezed it gently. “She didn’t care if you lived or died,
remember? Are you hesitating?”

“I would!” Salieri
cried, leaning toward Seth, her only ticket to freedom. “If I knew you, I
would. It was a misguided choice.”

Seth looked at her and
then back into Dom’s eyes, squeezing his palms into fists. And this was the
moment when Dom understood Seth wouldn’t do it. He wasn’t cut out for the role
his father wanted for him.

“She has to die.”

“Okay,” Seth whispered
with a deep breath and took a step forward, awkward as if he was wondering how
to approach a porcupine. He would have let her go if he had the chance, Dom was
sure of it. But that couldn’t happen.

“Seth, look at me.”

Seth followed the order
with that mopey look on his face. How was he ever to succeed at this job with
his emotions so obvious all over? Maybe they should take an acting class
instead of target practice?

Domenico sighed and dug
the tip of his shoe into the floor. “You can go if you want. I can do it for
you.”

Seth nodded and took two
steps back quicker than Salieri could utter another sob.

“Make me a smoothie,
will you?” asked Dom to make Seth feel useful and to give him a different focus
than pondering on what he left Dom to do.

Seth nodded, his breath
already hitching. “Sure,” he muttered and was out the door before Salieri
continued her vomit of lies.

“It’s not my fault. He
blackmailed me to do it,” she cried, curled up in her corner.

Domenico pinched the
bridge of his nose as he closed the door. He hated it when women screamed.
“Shut up, you lying cunt.”

She looked up at him,
swishing her hair back defiantly. “It’s true. He—” her voice shook, and she
moved closer on her hands and knees. “He raped me and said he’ll come back if I
don’t do those few e-mails.”

Domenico couldn’t help
the chuckle that left his chest at that story. “Doesn’t sound like him. He’s as
much of a fag as you can get.”

The undeniable look of
utter panic on her face gave her away in an instant. But Dom didn’t need that
anyway. He knew she’d say anything to slip out of this, the little slimy eel.

“I’m sorry, I just…” Her
mind had to be overheating by now, because she couldn’t think of a new lie.

“Any last words, my
dear?” asked Domenico, cracking the bones in his knuckles. The way she cringed
and cowered gave him no other satisfaction than the sense of doing justice to
Seth and their Family. He had no sympathy for a greedy woman willing to
sacrifice others in order to pursue her own plans. She deserved to die.

“Fuck you!” Salieri
squealed with fire in her eyes. Now, at the edge of her grave, she was getting
feisty on him? “You and your fucking smoothies! You thought that was funny?
That I don’t deserve even this much respect? Who are you anyway? Doing all the
dirty work for that puss-brain? It was so fucking easy to lure him in with a
promise of a cheap hen house, for fuck’s sake! What is he, twelve?” She hissed
like a cornered cat, finally showing her true colors.

He stepped toward her,
grabbed her head, and twisted her neck with a silent crack. That was it, easy-peasy.
All it took was a bit of knowledge and calm. Even Seth could do it if he
trained on animals first.

Domenico stretched,
letting the body slump to the wall, and looked around the small room. How the
hell was he supposed to deal with this mess?

He exited the cell and
went straight for the kitchen, looking for his lover. He wanted to reassure him
the deed was done and that he didn’t have to worry anymore. Seth greeted him
with a tense smile and a big glass of strawberry smoothie.

“Look, I even found a
straw in the cupboard.” He gave a nervous laugh, pointing to the white straw
with a tiny paper strawberry attached. Domenico felt his body relax, and he
walked right into Seth’s waiting arms. Seth wasn’t puss-brained, he had been
sheltered from the environment he was supposed to navigate in the future. The
woman deserved what she got for setting him up like that.

“Looks good.”

Seth hugged him close.
“I’m sorry, Dom. I wanted to do it, I really did,” Seth wasn’t half as good at
lying as Salieri.

“No, you didn’t,” said
Domenico. He stood on his toes to kiss Seth’s forehead and sucked on the straw
to taste the thick nectar, just as good as everything Seth had made for him so
far.

Seth avoided his gaze,
even though he didn’t pull away. “Okay, I didn’t. And then I’m sorry I didn’t.
I’ll do better next time,” he said quietly. He’d be better off making more
smoothies instead of trying to break people’s necks.

“Don’t worry about it.”
Domenico rubbed Seth’s back and reached into his pocket to withdraw the cell
phone. “It’s fine.”

“At least she told us
who it was. We can get the fuck out of here.” Seth leaned into the touch as if
he was made to be a part of Dom’s body.

Domenico sighed,
mentally slapping Angelo for getting involved in something like this, but there
was nothing he could do about it. He chose Silvio’s number.

“Hey, we’ve got some
spring cleaning to do,” he said when Silvio picked up. Those bodies needed to
be disposed of. He sipped on some well deserved strawberry smoothie. “We have
food.”

Domenico threw a bag of
ice on the Chinese scum’s face and rubbed his hands to get rid of the numbness
in his palms. Silvio slurped on the green smoothie, made to order by Seth, and
leaned against the wall. The simple black outfit only made his shape and
features appear more striking, providing the perfect background to Silvio’s
razor-sharp looks. His black eyes scanned the three stiffs, his attention only
briefly returning to Seth, who hid behind the semi-closed door.

“It’s good,” Silvio said
between one slurp of the smoothie and the next one.

“It’s apples, but also
spinach and celery. I added ginger as well,” Seth peeked into the room, as pale
as a guy of his skin tone could get. “I like to experiment with them. It’s
interesting how when you lose the texture of the food, sometimes the taste
stands out in a different way. It’s what molecular gastronomy is all about. I’d
like to try that one day.” His voice was all shaky, and he spoke too quickly.
Silvio would have undoubtedly picked up on that.

“Good for you. You gonna
come help?” asked Silvio, making Seth’s face fall. He poked the door, bumping
it against Seth.

Domenico turned on his
heel, searching for the brown gaze. Damn it. It was like making a fawn feast on
the carcass of its own mother. He didn’t want to make Seth look even more like
a wimp though.

Seth swallowed and
walked into the room on stiff legs. It was nothing like the soft and pliant
body Dom kneaded in the morning. “Yeah, yeah, sure.” He cleared his throat,
avoiding everyone’s gazes. Both the living and the dead. “I’ll… maybe I’ll
start with that one?” Seth pointed to one of the Chinese, his loud breathing
slowly filling the room, only accompanied by another slurp from Silvio.

Domenico sighed. He
didn’t want for Seth to embarrass himself before a member of a different
Family. “Actually, maybe we’ll just let him fetch the boxes you brought in
while we deal with this shit. We don’t need all that many people in here.”

Seth was so shit at
hiding his attitude that Dom wanted to facepalm. Seth’s lips spread into the
fakest smile, and he backed away from the bodies. “Yeah, I’ll do that. Boxes,
I’ll get boxes.”

A silly smile tugged on
Silvio’s lips. “Get some lube too.”

Seth looked back at the
bodies with a blank expression. “What for?”

Dom sighed and gestured
for the door. “Boxes and lube,” he said, just to get rid of Seth. His presence
wasn’t welcome, though he had no idea why Silvio needed the lube.

“But… the bodies…”
uttered Seth.

Silvio snapped his
fingers. “I’m not gonna have sex with dead people. It’s for later.”

Seth gave Dom one more
uncertain look as he backed out of the room that stank of death.

Domenico frowned at
Silvio and had some more smoothie. It was just as amazing as the one he’d had
earlier. “What do you need lube for? To squeeze the fatty into the box?”

“What is wrong with both
of you?” Silvio looked between them. “It’s for sex later.”

Domenico’s stomach
twisted, and he glanced toward the hunched figure in the gap between the door
and its frame, but he smirked and pushed his free hand into the pocket of his
jeans. “In a stinking room? Is that your thing, Spadaro?”

“I’ll… just get those
boxes,” muttered Seth and fled from their sight, his steps quicker as soon as
he disappeared.

“Not here, obviously,”
Silvio finished his smoothie.

Domenico sighed,
squeezing the cup in his hand. Seth took care to choose the right ingredients
for him, but the mess here wasn’t a good mix for a delicate stomach. He wished
Seth could just give it a rest and go for a walk. Far from Silvio’s dick. “I
don’t think he’s in the mood.”

As if to confirm his
words, they heard puking from the bathroom, and Silvio sneered. “He doesn’t
seem in the mood for anything.” He put away the cup and approached the body of
the girl like a beautiful hyena on the prowl.

Domenico got rid of his
empty cup. Seth was coping surprisingly well for a civilian. One couldn’t
expect a domestic cat to tear apart a street dog. “He had some bad Chinese.”

Silvio poked the foot of
one of the men with a silly grin. “Did
they
deliver it?”

“That would be a
terrible pun.” Domenico pulled back his hair and fastened it with an elastic
band. It was high time to get the rubber gloves dirty.

“Look, it’s a sale on
Louboutins.” Silvio picked up Salieri’s black high heels.

There was a flush from
the toilet followed by a vigorous sound of tooth brushing.

Domenico pulled on the
gloves and fastened them with elastics, so that they wouldn’t roll off. Silvio
was one of the few men whom he couldn’t read, and it left him confused. As
attractive as Spadaro was, he would not be someone to keep close. Domenico
still wanted to live. “What?”

“Not like she’s going to
need them.” Silvio pointed to Vera’s corpse and before Dom could even frown,
Silvio slipped off his shoes and put on the heels. Dom had to do a double take.
They actually fit.

His mind screamed that
it wasn’t right. Women’s high heels didn’t belong on a handsome young man
Domenico had fucked just days before. The sheer contrast between the outrageousness
of what was happening before Dom’s very eyes, and what he knew about Silvio
kept him motionless like a statue. “Are your feet that small?” he eventually
uttered.

“Not especially. Hey,
Seth!” Silvio shouted out and did a turn that was uncomfortably close to a
twirl before he walked out in the Louboutins. His figure suddenly became taller
and feminine looking. Dom could hardly believe this shit.

“The fuck? Take that
off. Seth’s not gonna fuck you if he sees you like that.” And the worst thing
was that Seth, with his lingerie-wearing ex, probably wouldn’t mind.

“I’m helping you out.”
Silvio gave Dom that toothy grin over his shoulder and walked up to Seth, who
reappeared in the corridor, in long, steady strides. The heels made him almost
as tall as Seth now.

Seth’s brows gathered
into a confused frown. “What’s happening?”

“He’s having too much
fun,” growled Domenico, keeping his gaze above Silvio’s ankles. It was a
ridiculous situation.
