“We’ll have to. She already has bruises appearing around her neck where he squeezed before he was sent away. She’ll be worried about the children too, and right now I don’t blame her. How can we stop this them from taking them?” Duke ran his hand through his hair feeling useless.
As if sensing his distress, Lucy moaned, coming close to waking. “Pull it back Duke, she needs to sleep during this process.” His uncle moved to his side staring at Lucy. “We’ll do everything we can to protect her. With the others knowing the threat they have volunteered to help. Your help with the city in its early years has earned you their devotion. Did you know they have put your name on the ballot for Mayor of the town?” his uncle told him.
“What? You’re kidding right?” he asked, looking at his uncle, who shook his head.
“Nope, it seems that they like the way you handle the pack and want you as the mayor. They want you to speak for them. I knew you would make a hell of a man, but you do your family proud. You should have heard your father on the phone when I told him earlier.”
Duke moaned and Nolan laughed. “Cheer up, this might be what you need to keep your family protected. Now get some sleep, because tomorrow you’re going to need your strength.” His uncle looked out at the stars. “It’s not easy watching your woman being challenged when inside all you want to do is wrap her in a bubble to protect her.” He looked at him. “You only allow one challenge, if there are others, you can step in, but the first one, you can’t, and it sucks as your would put it.”
With his last words, his uncle shifted and jumped off the porch, running towards his home. “He’s right, tomorrow is going to be the hardest day we will have. Even as he told us you could see his pain. I have a feeling this day will not be an easy one to remember,” Duke told his brother and moved back into the room.
“Agreed, but one good thing after the first challenge, the pack will support her.” Nolan crawled in the bed on the other side as his brother did as well.
“They better or I’ll be ripping some heads off,” he grumbled, his wolf close to the surface. Lucy managed to place her hand on his arm, squeezing and calming the wolf inside him.
Chapter Twelve
Lucy stared out the kitchen window, watching her children playing with others. Already half the pack had arrived, including her mother and new stepfather. She glanced behind her to see her mother glaring at her.
She sighed and turned to face her. “Mom, you know this has to happen, just this once. It’s not like I want to do this.”
“You shouldn’t have to prove yourself to anyone, damn it. My daughter is the best. Maybe I should challenge this bitch since she’s threating my baby,” she snapped and at once her husband came running into the room.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
“She wants to challenge this female that’s supposedly coming,” Lucy said and slowly turned as she heard the howl. “Randy, get the kids in the house and take them upstairs till this is over. Their friends can go with them,” Lucy said, knowing the time had come. “Well at least we’ll get this over with,” she said putting on a happy face and turning to her mom who was all but half wolf growling.
Kirk wrapped his arms around her, lifting her up into his arms and taking her up the stairs as Duke and Nolan came into the room, looking at her. “You ready?” he asked.
“No, is anyone ever ready to fight for something? I think it’s stupid and childish, but that is one of the reasons I’m doing this to knock some sense into this bitch’s head,” she growled and moved towards the door with Scotty following her.
She looked over her shoulder at her friend. “You do not step in, understand?” she said and Scotty rolled her eyes as Randy joined them.
“We won’t jump in as long as no one else does. Your mom and Kirk are watching the kids because I’m not going to miss this.” Randy rubbed her hands together.
“Blood thirst wench,” Lucy mumbled and walked with her men to an empty spot where it seemed the whole pack had shown up. Off to the side, a woman with long blond hair stood glaring at her. “Let me guess, Blondie used to be one of the girls you’ve fucked.” She looked up at Duke and he sighed.
“You are the only one now. We each have a past. I was hoping ours wouldn’t interfere with our joining, and for that I’m sorry.” He kissed her head and stepped in the middle of the ring growling at the woman.
“I am only allowing this one challenge because I have no choice, but let it be known that anyone who tries to interfere, I will personally rip you apart. There will be no other challenges, If you are not happy with this, my brother and I will take our family and leave.”
Lucy was shocked to leave everything they knew, she shook her head and stepped forward, but Nolan wrapped his arm around her and shook his head. “No, watch,” Nolan whispered in her ear as the large circle of people all got down on their knees, bowing their heads.
“They honor us, telling us that they will abide by what he has stated,” Nolan kissed her cheek and stepped back as Duke came up to her.
“No matter what happens, you will always be our woman.” he looked over his shoulder. “This challenge means nothing to us. No other will take your place in our life.” He snarled and turned back, grabbing a handful of her hair and pulling it till she lifted her head, giving him access to her mouth. He kissed her hard, claiming her for everyone’s eyes.
He raised his head, staring at her. “No matter what, we stand behind you.”
“Well, geez thanks for believing in me,” she snapped, and stepped away from him, moving to the bitch. “Let’s get it on, idiot. I can’t be away from my children long.”
“Oh that’s right, you’re damaged, you can’t have kids of your own. You shouldn’t be with the alpha of our pack,” she snarled and lunged at her.
“I might not be able to carry a child, but I can still have them but, it’s really none of your damn business.” Lucy flipped the bitch over her shoulder after she came running at her, really pissing her off.
Lucy watched her wolf come out as she snarled, jumping up and shifting half way in the air at her. “You know this is really getting boring,” Lucy snapped and kicked the wolf in the mouth as it came after her. The wolf cried out and a splatter of blood hit her leg. “Great now my pants are ruined.” Lucy went after the bitch and if she wasn’t so furious, she would have laughed as the blond bimbo whimpered, moving away from her.
Lucy stopped and put her hands on her hips. “Shift back Melony, I’m done with this.” She growled and the woman did.
“You broke my jaw,” she mumbled, trying not to move her mouth.
“You’re lucky that’s all I broke. Listen I know you were with them, but they’re mine now and I don’t share. One day you’ll find your mate. Now go get medical help, so we can get this party started.” Lucy said and turned to leave when the females of the pack seemed to surround her.
One older woman stepped forward. “You are the alpha female and we honor you. My name is Ada. You will make a great addition to our pack. Know we will protect your children and you from harm always, but we have a question. Why didn’t you shift? We know you have been changed.”
“Thank you Ada, and all of you. But when I do my first shift I want it to be beautiful like the wolf is, not because I needed to protect myself. Plus, I knew I could take her without shifting. Now come, let’s get this cook out going.” she said and moved through the woman as they reached out to touch her.
Duke and Nolan stepped up next to her, but she ignored them as Scotty and Randy joined them. “I knew you could do it. Wasn’t that move the one you were trying to teach me last month?” Randy asked her.
Lucy snorted. “Yes, the same one you said you would never need. Have you changed your mind?” Lucy asked, heading into the house.
“Maybe, we’ll talk later.” Both of her friends deserted her as Duke lifted her up and carried her into the study as Nolan shut and locked the door behind him.
“What are you doing? Put me down, Duke. Right now,” she growled, still mad at both of them.
“No,” Duke growled and ripped at her clothes ’til she stood in the middle of the room naked. Each man moved around her growling, touching her, nipping and licking sometimes. “You could have been killed!” Nolan growled.
“Should have shifted,” Duke said, slapping her ass hard, making her jump around and glaring at him.
“What?” her words died out seeing that both men were close to shifting. That’s when she felt it, her wolf. “Wow,” she said, taking a step back. Both men surrounded her, hugging her, touching her.
“Relax, let her come,” Duke said, his voice a growl almost calling to her wolf.
She was scared. This was totally out of her realm, but she followed Duke’s suggestion. One minute she was in their arms, the next Lucy was staring up at both men, but seeing them in a different light.
“Stunning, look at her coat, the same deep color of red,” Duke dropped to his knees as did Nolan. Both of them running their hands over her. “My lady, you are ours now. But if you ever put yourself in danger like that again, I’m going to spank your butt. You should have shifted earlier Lucy.” Both men stood when all she wanted to do was bite them.
“Come back to us,” Duke said.

.” She thought as Lucy took the picture into her head and shifted back to her human form. She didn’t even get to tell them off when Nolan covered her mouth with his, holding onto her. When he lifted his head, he stepped back allowing a naked Duke to move her back up against the wall.
“Wrap your legs around me baby. I need you,” he said lifting her up and biting her bottom lip.
Lucy should have turned him down, but she couldn’t. His dominance, and his touch, made her blood heat like nothing else could. She lifted her legs and wrapped them around him. “Love me Duke, love me,” she whispered against his lips.
“Always,” he said sliding his tongue into her at the same time he thrust up inside her, capturing her gasp.

Duke slid into her and at once his wolf settled. Watching her fight had taken everything in him to not attack and kill the woman who had challenged her. Never did he want to go through that again. Duke knew he had been hard on her and scared her earlier, but she would have to understand his need to protect and care for her.
He broke their kiss, her lips swollen from it. “You’re ours Lucy, only ours,” he growled very close to coming but needing her to go over first.
She placed her hands on his face and stared into his eyes. “I’m yours as you are mine.” She took a deep breath. “When I was out there fighting her, I realized two things.” Her eyes met his again. “That you two are mine and I finally have the family I’ve always wanted. No one was going to take it away from me.”
“What was the second thing?” he asked.
“That I was going to kill the asshole who told her I couldn’t have kids. Did you tell anyone?” she growled and he couldn’t help throwing his head back laughing.
“Oh my little wolf you are a gem. We, the three of us, will find out who is spreading these tales, because every wolf in this pack knows better. Now, hush while I make love to you,” he looked over his shoulder to his brother who was stroking his cock. “because when I’m done, you have another mate to calm,” he said, covering her mouth, loving her like only he could, a mate of the wolf and a possession he would never allow any harm to come to.
Their stepsister would become their wife today as she had become their mate last night. A gift from them and a promise to always make her smile as much as possible.
