Attempting to smile, she asked, “Really? You’re not mad at me?

“Mad at you? No. I think you just rescued us a new family member. I couldn’t be prouder.”

“He’s shivering,” said Kristie. She walked over to her travel bag and pulled out a soft towel. “Here, let me wrap him up in this.”

Declan moved over to the guy moaning on the ground and placed his huge foot on his chest. “Don’t move. Don’t breathe, and don’t say a word. You’re a real piece of shit harming a tiny, defenseless creature. You’re lucky my girl’s here or I would have really hurt you.”

Driving home, Kristie took Declan’s hand in hers and kissed it. “Thank you. Thank you for being my very own hero. If I wasn’t so sore, I’d attack you right now.”

Declan swerved on the road and smiled while he wiggled his brows. “You can’t say something like that to me and not expect a reaction. I want you right now too.”

“I have an idea,” said Kristie holding the puppy tight.

“I like the way that sounds.”

“I really enjoyed sleeping under the stars with you and welcome that again. Only this time, we’ll have to drive about an hour,” said Kristie in a soft voice.

“Wherever you want to go is fine with me. All I want is to be next to you and inside you all night long.”

“Barbie Doll. What’s taking you so long?” called Declan as he made his way into her bedroom. “Where are you?”

              “In the bathroom,” she called.

Walking towards the partially closed door, Declan took a step and paused. “May I come in?”

“Sure,” said Kristie. Declan walked in and his heart missed a beat as he took in Kristie’s curvy ass as she bent over the bathtub. The only thing that stopped him from taking her right there was the little puppy soaking in the warm water in the tub.

“He’s really cute,” said Declan kneeling down alongside Kristie. “You’re keeping him. Right?”

“Yes,” said Kristie as she turned to face Declan with a smile.

              “What should we name him?”

Kristie looked at the puppy for a few minutes in perfect silence. Slowly, a small smile began to spread from her lips. “How does Ares sound?”

Declan looked at Kristie with a huge smile. “Ares. Our little god of war; it’s a perfect fit for him.”

Kristie looked at the puppy and said in a sweet voice, “Ares. How’s my good boy? Do you like your new name?”

Kristie pulled the stopper out of the bath and wrapped Ares in a blue towel before she carefully handed him to Declan. “Let’s get him checked out by a veterinarian before we do anything else. I’d feel awful if he’s really in pain.”

Chapter Nineteen

Walking towards Kristie’s Jeep after the vet appointment, Declan’s phone began to ring.

              ‘Hello.’

‘What are you and Kristie doing?’
asked Paul.

‘We’re just leaving the vets office and I think we are headed upstate.’

‘Vets office? Do you want to meet Lorie and I at the park for a picnic? We have plenty of food.’

‘Yeah, long story. I’ll fill you in when I see you. Let me talk to Barbie Doll and get back to you.’

Ending the call, Declan turned and looked at Kristie for a moment.

“Everything okay?” she asked with a raised brow.

“Paul and Lorie wanted to know if we wanted to meet them at the park for a picnic.”

“That sounds like fun,” Kristie said, as she made sure that Ares was secure in the back seat. “Is it something you want to do?”

“As long as I’m with you, and that adorable little fur ball in the back seat, I’m good.”

Kristie made a quick stop at her house and gathered a few things for their impromptu picnic. She was about to place them in her car when Declan stopped her.

“We’ll take my truck. Maybe we can camp under the stars again. Would you like that?”

Kristie looked over at Declan with a smile. “I’d love that.”

“Let’s go. Paul and Lorie stopped and picked up food for us,” said Declan as he helped Kristie into the truck.

Sitting on the huge blanket spread out on the green grass, Kristie turned to Lorie and said in an excited voice, “Don’t forget it’s Daniella’s twenty-fifth birthday in two days and also the anniversary of her and Benny.”

“I won’t. What are we getting Benny this year?” asked Lorie lifting Ares onto her lap while she stroked his soft fur.

Looking over at Kristie with a raised brow, Declan questioned, “Anniversary? Daniella and Benny? What on earth are you talking about?”

Paul chimed in and said, “Seriously, now I’m confused.”

Taking a long breath and letting it out slowly, Kristie turned her entire body and faced both Declan and Paul. She made sure to look at each of them. Moistening her dry lips, she began with a hint of melancholy in her voice, “Once upon a time in a world quickly forgotten, there was a very wicked family that enjoyed drinking, partying, and drugs as opposed to taking care of two very young, very sad, and very uncared for children. People of the neighborhood began talking and soon word got out to the beautiful king and queen of the realm.”

“A fairytale?” asked Paul as he stared at Kristie with interest.

“Yes and no. Hear me out. My story is the best story.”

“It is,” said Lorie handing her sister a cold bottle of water. “Just listen and soon you’ll understand.”

Kristie adjusted herself and continued, “The king’s father, a very wealthy and powerful man found the same two children in the hospital where he ruled as president of the Board of Directors. The children were broken...they had a ton of bruises, and were extremely thin, and frightened. Asking a bunch of question about the two children, the king’s father found himself angered that people could neglect two of creations most perfect beings and decided to do something about it.

Kristie’s voice weaved the story perfectly and Declan could only watch his beautiful woman, completely intrigued by her tale. “Walking over to the adorable little boy and girl, the king’s father, along with the king and queen, began talking to the children and listened to everything the little boy and girl had to say. Soon, the king made a ruling and declared that he would do all he could to get those two, beautiful children away from the wicked people.”

She paused for good measure and took a long swallow of her water before she continued, “With the help of a court jester, a fairy godmother, and a few royal jewels, the king and queen soon welcomed two of the most adorable children into their family. Those two children thrived in the home of the king and queen and enjoyed a life of love and happiness with a real family. Slowly, the adorable boy and girl gained weight, their bruises faded and the fear left them. They played with the other children of the king and queen, and shed their skin of the past. To look at these children now, no one would ever guess they weren’t blood related. They even decided to take the surname of the king and queen. They made it official twenty years ago and are only known as Benjamin and Daniella Rossi.”

“You’re kidding?” asked Declan with a smile on his face. “Wow, what an awesome family.”

“Our grandfather made sure that Benny and Daniella were adopted by our parents and was willing to do everything in his power to see it happen,” said Kristie wiping away a stray tear. “We’ve all been blessed and, honestly, not a day goes by without me thinking how lucky we were to find them. They weren’t just two abused kids...they were a part of our family that was missing until we found them.”

“Benjamin and Daniella are two of the best things that has ever happened to our family,” agreed Lorie with a smile. “They completed us and it was all done on and around Daniella’s birthday so it makes it even more special.”

“It sure is,” said Kristie with a huge smile. “Sean and William’s father was the attorney my grandfather hired to win the case. Of course, we were all so young but to hear Mr. and Mrs. Guerra tell the story, it’s pretty funny too.”

“Wow,” said Declan pulling Kristie against his chest. “I can’t wait to meet Sean’s parents.”

The sun started to set and the sky looked incredible with its hues of red, orange, and purple. “So beautiful,” said Kristie staring off into the distance.

Twirling a strand of Kristie’s hair, Declan whispered, “Want to stay here tonight and sleep under the stars?”

“How? What about the cops?”

“This is Naval property. We have permission to be here.”

“Really?”

“Yup.”

Paul stood up and helped Lorie up. He picked up the blanket and folded it before tucking it under his arm. “I’ll see you two in the A.M.”

“Night,” said Kristie as she watched her sister walk towards Paul’s truck.

“Come on,” said Declan holding out his hand for her. “Let’s take Ares for a walk before we get comfortable.”

“You go,” said Kristie looking around nervously. “Is there a bathroom around here by any chance?”

              “I’ll take you. Come on.”

Kristie took his hand and walked alongside him. She sighed, “It’s so sad; summer is almost over.”

“It sure is,” he replied while walking towards a small wooden building. “The ladies’ room is to your left. I’ll walk him and wait for you over there.”

Kristie walked into the bathroom and just as she finished she spotted a huge snake in the corner. She screamed at the top of her lungs. Standing on top of the toilet shaking, she looked around and noticed it vanished.

              “No. Oh no,”

“What’s wrong,” yelled Declan as he crashed into the bathroom.

“Pick up Ares, there’s a huge snake in here.”

“Snake?” asked Declan. He shone his flashlight around the bathroom.

“Did you find it?” asked Kristie as she quivered with fear from the top of her perch.

“Really Magoo. Snake?” he asked while opening up the bathroom stall holding a black garden hose in his hands.

“Does a garden hose slither?” she asked almost falling to the ground.

“Come on,” said Declan tossing the hose back where he found it and helping her down.

“Wait. I have to wash my hands and face. Please don’t leave me in here. Something was moving.”

“I’m right here,” said Declan watching something in the corner. Staying calm, he asked, “Ready?”

Making their way towards the bed of the truck, Declan lifted Kristie up and handed Ares to her. Looking into his deep brown eyes, she watched him as he moved alongside her and brought his delicious mouth towards her. Kissing her, she felt his lips, his tongue, and his hands take possession of her as she marveled at the sensations he stirred within her.

His tongue circled hers setting her body aflame as his cool hands touched her nipples, which turned the rosy peaks hard as her body shivered. Her heart rate skyrocketed while her body trembled with desire.

Letting out a soft moan, her hands reached out and roamed his muscular body feeling every scrumptious crevice. A tidal wave of desire washed over her body from her breasts straight to her pulsing core.

With one swift move, Declan had Kristie undressed. Savoring the sight, his eyes drank her in. “I just look at you and I’m hard.”

His eyes never left her body while he removed his clothing. An overwhelming need to possess her consumed his thoughts and he had to remind himself that no woman has ever affected him this way. She was his fantasy girl.

Flipping her onto all fours, he adjusted her body and let out a loud, guttural growl. Leaning behind her, his left hand toyed with her large breasts, toying with her dusky peaks while his other hand circled her sex.

Kristie’s body felt like the softest silk he’d ever felt. The moment he placed himself at her warm entrance, a low seductive purr rumbled from her chest. Slowly, he pushed himself into her, each thrust going a little deeper.

Feeling his body ready to explode, he circled Kristie’s clit over and over again and moaned the moment he felt her body give in.

“That’s it baby,” he said in a deep growl as he pounded into her one last time.

Moving out of her, he quickly disposed of his condom, pulled her against him and kissed her.
