Chance started rocking, little movements at first that slowly got bigger. Drew arched into it, pushing down to meet him until he got the angle perfect and Chance was pounding against his prostate.

Both of them were crying out softly, and Drew murmured sweet encouragement into Chance’s ear, asking for more-harder-faster, anything he was willing to give.

Drew hung on, needing his grip on Chance to keep from feeling like he was flying away. Chance had one hand on Drew’s shoulder, holding him in place, while the other caressed him, rubbing his chest and playing with his nipples until Drew begged him to touch his cock.

Chance reached down and wrapped his long fingers around it, only pulling half a dozen times before Drew was coming. He spurted all over Chance’s hand and both their chests, and as Drew clamped down on Chance’s cock, Chance followed him over the edge into bliss.

Drew could feel every twitch as Chance pumped into his ass. He didn’t think it would be so emotional to feel that for the first time, but he found himself clinging to Chance desperately, holding him close as he collapsed on top of Drew. When he tried to move, Drew just held him closer, savoring Chance’s weight on top of him as he held him down.

They lay like that for a few minutes, so tangled together you couldn’t tell where one ended and the other began. When they could both breathe normally, Chance slid to the side and then turned, bringing Drew with him. He cuddled Drew against his chest, leaning in to kiss him tenderly before tucking Drew’s head under his chin.

Drew placed one hand over Chance’s heart and smiled when Chance reached up to tangle their fingers together there.

“We should clean up.” Drew really didn’t want to move but felt he should give Chance the option.

“Hmmmm… later.” Chance kissed the top of his head.

“We’re gonna be crusty later.”

“I don’t really give a shit.” Chance was fading fast, but Drew couldn’t help pushing a little more.

“I really think—” He was cut off when Chance grabbed the back of his hair and pulled his head back to kiss him roughly before pulling back.

“Shut up, Drew.” The smile and the fond look in his eyes softened his harsh words.

Drew smiled mischievously. “Getting kinda bossy, aren’t you?”

Chance reached down and gave Drew’s ass a little slap. “Cut it out before I spank you.” Drew’s tired cock twitched against Chance’s hip at the idea, causing the other man to chuckle. “Maybe I should say I won’t spank you if you don’t shut up?”

Drew could feel the blush creeping up his cheeks, but he didn’t say no. Instead he swatted Chance’s stomach, grinning at the little “oof” it got him. “Shhh, trying to sleep.”

Chance chuckled again and pulled him closer. “Okay, we’ll talk about this later….”

The last word faded into nothing as Chance dropped off to sleep, and Drew drifted off to the sound of him breathing.

woke with a start, his heart pounding and tears in his eyes. He searched the dark room, taking note of everything familiar and reminding himself he was home and safe.

Sighing, he quietly eased out of bed and padded over to the window and looked out. The sun was just coming up, and the snow-covered mountains stood out in stark relief against the slowly brightening sky.

Almost a year after the horror, the nightmares were finally starting to fade, but every once in a while his mind still tortured him.

Sometimes it was the colonel with the knife at his neck, only in Drew’s nightmares, the lunatic pulled a gun and shot Chance before turning it on Drew. Sometimes it was falling from that cliff and pulling Chance over with him.

But mostly it was Ezra taking him to that clearing and Chance not finding them in time. His brain recalled every detail about the man… how he smelled, the manic glint in his eye. How horrifying the hard length of his cock felt against Drew’s leg as Ezra tried to rip his jeans off.

In Drew’s nightmares, he succeeded, and sometimes the pain and terror from his dreams seemed to follow him into waking. When that happened, it would take hours for him to calm down.

His therapist had told him it was normal and that they would stop eventually. God, he hoped so.

As he looked at the beauty before him, he found it hard to believe it had been the site of both the worst and best thing that had ever happened to him.

Drew smiled at the memory of their first time making love. Things had been pretty good for them since then.

Chance had never really left Drew’s apartment. He’d finished up the paperwork for the Marines and was working in construction while contemplating going back to school as soon as he could decide what he wanted to do. He loved helping people, and Drew was pretty sure he was going to end up going into physiotherapy so he could help some of his fellow former soldiers recover from the wars they’d fought.

Drew’s piece on the kidnapping had led to a book that was still on the best seller list and a contract with a leading publisher. He still worked at the paper because “you never know if the next book will sell.” He knew Chance was aware of the fact that Drew just liked being nosy and figuring things out.

Drew sighed as the sun finally broke the horizon, bathing everything it touched in a beautiful golden glow. It was so beautiful, and he was happy he and Chance had decided to stay in Colorado Springs.

“Hey, babe. You okay?” Chance’s sleepy voice behind him was a welcome sound as strong arms wrapped around him from behind, and he was pulled back against a sleep-warm chest.

He held on to Chance’s arms, pushing himself closer. “I’m fine. Just a bad dream.”

Chance’s hold tightened a little, and he felt warm breath on his neck as Chance nuzzled under Drew’s hair and pressed soft kisses to the skin there.

“Hmm, I’m sorry.” He kissed his way down Drew’s bare shoulder, causing him to shiver. “Anything I can do to help?”

Drew smiled and turned in Chance’s embrace. He wound his arms up and around his boyfriend’s neck, pulling him down for a sweet kiss that tasted of sleep and Chance.

He pulled back. “You already are.”

Chance’s sleepy smile was radiant. “Love you, Drew.”

Drew grinned up at him, reaching up to push the hair back from Chance’s face. “Love you too, baby.”

They hugged each other tightly until they both began to shiver. Chance pulled back and took Drew by the hand.

“Come on. We both have the day off, and it’s really early. Let’s go back to bed and warm up.”

Drew couldn’t resist Chance’s hopeful invitation and happily followed him back to the bed. They climbed back under the covers, and as they settled in to nap, Drew couldn’t help but smile.

It was Drew’s birthday, and he was pretty sure today was the day that he’d get to find out what was in the red leather ring box Drew had accidentally spotted when he was putting the laundry away a couple of weeks ago.

He snuggled in against Chance’s chest, and as he drifted off, he knew the prospect of being able to call his boyfriend his husband in the future would be enough to keep the bad dreams at bay.

He kissed Chance’s chest, and the last thing he heard before he fell back asleep was the beating of Chance’s heart, which finally soothed him to sleep.

He was safe and loved. It was all he needed.

UTHERLAND
is a first-time author in her early forties who never thought that getting involved in a fandom would lead to being published. She is an avid reader who would take in anything she could get her hands on, having inherited a love of books from both her parents. She wrote in secret as a young adult, with only her family for an audience, and now is over the moon at the thought of sharing her love of writing with a few more people. Her favorite stress-busting activity besides writing is singing karaoke at her hometown bar, and she is passing on her love of reading to her daughter. Cindy thanks God every day for an errant YouTube recommendation that led to her having the best group of friends she's ever had in her life, and she is looking forward to seeing where the rest of this journey will take her; and, hopefully, more stories to tell.
