Moments later Scar skipped down the stairs with a backpack on her back. She felt real good. There was no need for her to hide it or deny it. Max had made her come like she had never come before. He was skilled and she had to admit to herself he was number one in more ways than one. She wanted to feel him inside her again. She longed for his kisses in all the right places. He was trouble and she knew it but he was the kind of trouble she wanted to get into time and time again.

Scar headed to the parking lot and straight toward Max and Ryan. Max watched her curves as she sauntered closer toward him. One side of his lips curved into a smile. It was like she controlled his face.

Ryan took Scar’s duffel bag and tossed it into the trunk. He slammed the trunk shut. Max walked and stood by the driver’s door studying his cell phone. He was trying not to gawk at her. Max looked up as Scar approached.

“That was quick.” He stated.

“I said fifteen minutes.”

“Yeah you did.” Max said with a smirk. “But woman are slow.”

“I’m fast.”

“I agree. Here, I got breakfast, coffee and donuts.” Max grabbed the hot coffee off the top of the truck and handed it to Scar. Her curly Afro was slicked back in a smooth ponytail. Max liked that look on her, clean, sleek. You could really see more of her pretty face he thought to himself. He rarely saw any woman twice and hanging out with them the next day never ever happened. But it didn’t feel weird to him. He didn’t feel like running or treating her any differently than he had before they had sex.

This was all new territory to Max but he wasn’t scared by it. He savored it. He embraced it because it felt good. It felt nice to think about Scar. It felt nice caring about someone. It felt really great having a floating feeling in his stomach. He had something to smile about for a change.

CHAPTER 8

Walt was restless. He had been out all night looking for a kill that wouldn’t come so darn easy. All his kills were easy prey. He had once been in the hunter life and he was stronger now so killing unsuspecting humans was getting tedious and boring.

He was sure the rest of his crew felt the same way. He strolled down the street until he came upon the house where the rest of his vamp gang was held up.

Inside the vacant suburban house the vampires were restless. Walt walked down a wooden staircase that led into the basement. He saw Colin and Jerry feeding from a young teenage girl who was near death. Walt could hear the faint beat of her heart. The girl’s Catholic schoolgirl uniform was drenched in blood. Her hair was streaked with wet crimson highlights.

Colin stopped feeding as soon as he noticed Walt’s eyes on them.

“We were looking for you.” Colin said to Walt. “I just got a call from Pedro the runner. Number three has been spotted in Pennsylvania.”

“It’s time to move. Leave the dead girl.”

Colin stared into the schoolgirl’s eyes. “She’s not dead yet.”

“No matter, leave her. We got another hunter to kill, number three.”

“What about Janette?”

“Fuck that whore. She’s probably feeding on a homeless person. We go without her. She’s a cunt. She will only slow us down with her constant whining.”

Jerry stood and wiped his stained mouth. He grabbed his leather jacket off the edge of the couch. Colin pushed the nearly dead girl off his lap unto the cement basement floor. He stood and licked the excess blood from his lips.

Colin and Jerry never had reason to question Walt. He was a great leader. The best they ever had. He was their ticket to bigger and better things.

***

It didn’t take long for Max, Ryan and Scar to get back to New Kensington Pennsylvania. They had a few hours to kill before they went out to look for Roy and some of the places he frequented. All the bars hadn’t opened for business yet. Until then Roy could be anywhere.

Max decided to drop Ryan off at a nearby hotel. He wanted to spend some alone time with Scar. Max let Scar drive the truck. She drove until she found a secluded playground in an industrial area. She parked the truck and they got out. Max and Scar walked down a path that led to the children’s playground.

“Shouldn’t we be looking for Roy?” Max asked. He wasn’t sure what they were doing in the park. He was anxious to get this job over with so he can go look for Drack. This was just a regular job to Max. He had a serious enemy in Drack.

“Calm down, we don’t have to look for Roy. I know exactly when he’ll be there.”

“And where is that?”

“I told you, the roadhouse.”

“How do you know?”

“I used to hunt with him and his partner back in the day. Roy is secretive but predictable. I’ve hunted with a lot of the guys.”

“So you really got around.” He hinted, asked, inquired. He just wanted to know her track record although it wouldn’t matter. He had already fallen hard.

“If you’re asking about me and other hunters well I’ve only been with one hunter other than you. We broke up ages ago. He disappeared and is presumed dead.”

“I’m sorry to hear that.”

“Are you really?”

“No not really.” Max grinned. It made him feel better knowing Scar didn’t sleep around. He never really thought she did but he seemed to feel things a little differently now that they had been intimate.

“Besides, I wanted to spend a little time with you before I meet my maker.”

Max looked away, completely ignoring Scar’s defeatist attitude. “Hey I was wondering. How did you get into this life?”

“They were handing out applications at the local Target.” Scar joked.

“Ha, ha. No really.”

“I was born into it. My mother and father were vampire hunters. You could say it’s a family tradition. My folks, they’re retired now.”

“Really, mine too. I mean they were hunters. They’re dead now.”

“Did they die on the job?”

“Yeah, my mother was killed by a demon, my dad was killed by a vamp.”

“Damn that’s terrible.”

“Well it goes with the territory. We hunt. We die.”

Scar decided to change the subject. She didn’t mean to bring up a painful subject. “I am the oldest kid in my family. After awhile my parents couldn’t hide it from me. They would take these trips and leave me alone to watch my brother and sister. So one day I broke into the locked cellar and found all the weapons. There was a diary with all their maps, notes and vamp kills.”

“Did it freak you out?”

“Yeah at first, of course. Then I devoured all the information.”

“It was exciting right?”

“Yes exciting. So I told them I would be the best hunter ever, just as long as my little brother and sister could stay away from the life.”

“Did that work? Did you keep them away?”

“Yeah, it was one of the best things I ever did for someone. My brother is away at college in Michigan. My sister’s married with two kids. This life I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. I love my brother and sister and I keep them safe.”

Scar took a seat on the swing. She felt good about keeping her siblings away from this life, a life filled with monsters.

“I tried to let Ryan live a normal life but after our dad dies I felt like I needed to keep him close. I needed to keep tabs on him. I needed Ryan with me. I guess I was selfish and lonely. Maybe a little confused at the time.” Max sat in the empty swing next to Scar.

“Max we all get lonely. That’s the life of a hunter. At least you have Ryan. You have your family by your side.”

“Yeah but sometimes it’s not enough.” Max thought about the life he could’ve had if he wasn’t a hunter. If this life wasn’t something handed down to him from his parents.

“Yeah I know. You know Scar, you could have a real life with the guy of your dreams. You could have a snot nose kid.”

“Me a mother?”

Max shrugged, unsure of how he should react. “Yeah you, a mother.”

“Changing pampers by day, beheading vampires by night. Seriously?”

“Yeah seriously.”

“Max, I can’t unknow what I know.”

Max shook his head yes. “I’ve never tried the family life. It took a little time for me to realize this is the only life for me. This is what I’m good at. This is where I want to be.”

“I guess some of us have to go it alone. This life is lonely. You have your brother.”

“I do. Maybe you don’t have to, you know be alone. I’m here.”

“Yeah you are.”

“I could look out for you.”

“Max Fox, are you asking me to go steady?” Scarlet was toying with him and serious at the same time. She was flattered.

“I think I am. Hell yes I am.” He grinned.

“Scarlet andMax sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-, I-N-G.”

“You’re making jokes.” Max smiled. He couldn’t help it. Scar made him happy.

“No, I’m just singing out loud.”

“I had a hellava year. Almost lost my brother.” Max struggled with the words. “Meeting you, is, ya know, like one of the good parts.”

“I would be honored to go steady with number one.” Scarlet smiled a childish goofy smile.

“Well it’s official. We are going steady.” Max grinned. “So me and you are a couple.”

“Now you’re scaring me.” She teased.

“Please, you don’t scare easy.”

“We’re a couple, a vampire hunter couple.”

“So we’re like all monogamous and stuff.” Max asked.

“Do you want to be monogamous and stuff?”

“Yeah that goes with it right?”

“Normally yes.”

“Well let’s do normal.” Max felt good about his decision and this new milestone in his life. He had a smoking hot girlfriend that he wanted to keep safe. She was a dream. She was a woman he could share his life with instead of hide it.

“Let’s kiss to seal the deal.” Scar ordered.

Scar inched her swing over to Max’s swing. She planted a nice passionate kiss on his waiting mouth. The kiss was sweet. It made her feel young again. It made her feel free from worry, not totally free but free enough. Max made her feel like maybe there was a chance that she would survive being number two. She prayed, something she rarely did. She prayed that she would make it out alive.

“Listen it’s time we get out of here. We have a mission. We have to get to work.”

Scar stood, leaving her swing dangling behind her. She turned back and looked at Max. She raised her hand and he took it.

They strolled across the park holding hands only breaking the bond when Max opened the door for Scar to climb into the passenger seat. Max jogged around and got in the driver’s seat.

“Wait, before we take off. Why is this not awkward?”

“I was thinking the same thing. I’m so comfortable around you.” Max agreed.

“Yeah right.”

“We don’t have to go back right this minute. We have a few minutes to kill.” Max added with a sly grin.

“What do you want to do with these few minutes?” Scar asked as she batted her eyelashes.

“I want to take a catnap.”

“Really?” Scar was disappointed.

“No not really.” Max reached over and grabbed Scar by her collar. He pulled her lips to his. He kissed her slow. “I can never get enough of your lips.”

“Who said you had to get enough.” Scar bent over and planted another soft kiss on Max’s waiting lips. One of her hands glided into his lap. She rubbed her palm over his crotch. Max couldn’t help but to kiss her back hungrily. He was eager to feel the warmth of her lower lips. The lips he had his devious way with at the motel.

Scar pulled back and straightened up in the passenger seat. She quickly unbuttoned and unzipped her jeans. She rid herself of all her lower clothing just to notice that Max had pushed his jeans and boxer shorts all the way down to his knees.

Max hit the lever to make his seat glide back as far as it would go. Scar looked down in his lap and his hard member. She admired how beautiful and smooth it was. The head was think and shiny. She longed to have it in her mouth.

Max watched her eyes as they stared down at his cock. She was mesmerized by it and this intrigued Max. He had the same reaction to the beautiful plush folds of her pussy lips.

He loved the way her mouth curled into a smile as she feasted her eyes on the tool that he had given her over and over.

“Sit on him. He misses you.” Max took his huge cock in his hand and pointed it in her direction.

Scar straddled Max. She looked down into his willing eyes as she slowly let his huge member impale her core. Scar’s eyes flickered as she pressed down onto him. Max bit his bottom lip as she sucked him deep into her moist hole.

Max palmed both of her ass cheeks with his hands. He held her and groaned when Scar slowly rocked back and forth on the length of him. He felt her juice coat his member. He watched her closely and blinked every time she twisted her tight canal and stroked him to near explosion.

Max puckered so Scar could kiss him. His tongued danced in his mouth as Scar rolled her hips. Scar grabbed his hair and yanked his head back. Scar took over the kiss and rocked hard and fast on Max. He felt his resolve weakening. He tried to hold on a little longer but Scar was sighing inside his mouth.
