Resurrection Men

At the start of this episode Rebus is hell-bent on trying to get some sleep after being out on a bender. This causes him to make some rash decisions during a murder inquiry, which leads to him throwing a tantrum at Gill Templer and being sent to the ‘last chance saloon’ for naughty cops. A tall order for Rebus to be coaxed into being a team
player, but after an amusing time at a massage parlour where he is discovered by Siobhan, Rebus begins to bounce back.

This is a story where Siobhan was given the opportunity to shine and Rebus at last told off. And it does at least that. One of the better episodes.

The First Stone

There comes a time when you think that if a TV company is going to disregard so much of an original story that it is impossible to recognise it, they may as well make up the title as well. So here we are! Entertaining because the characters are great and the acting is good, but Ian Rankin this is not – or is it? There’s the
humour between Rebus and Clarke, old rock ‘n’ roll songs, which upset the status quo, but a lead of newspapers that the novel-Rebus would quickly follow-up lets it down a bit.

The story is a whodunit/serial killer story with a couple of creepy scenes but in the end there is only one person who could have been behind it all.

The Naming of the Dead

Rankin’s G8 story gets its dramatisation. There are a couple of likeable moments and a good ending piece (where Rebus realises that the money men will always win and he is just a pawn). And perhaps this is the way the DI is thinking as retirement beckons…

An entertaining
hour and a bit!
