CHAPTER 24 Billionaire Secret: Unhinged

The alarm on my iPod dock blares “Some Nights” by Fun.

What time is it?

Why had I set an alarm?

I check the dock. 12:00AM?

Why the hell had I set an alarm for midnight?

And then it comes to me.

It was Friday night, I had slept most of the day after pulling an all-nighter to finish an English paper which I had handed in that morning.

I had taken a brief nap last night and set the alarm to midnight so I could get up and finish my paper on Milton’s
Paradise Lost
.

I’d failed to switch it off the night before. Just hit the snooze button three times and then miraculously managed to wake up.

I switch the alarm off and stretch my arms above my head.

Ugh. I’m really stiff.

My Wednesday night sex fest with Damon, followed by a second all-nighter for the Milton paper, had left me so exhausted I was pretty sure I had slept in the same position.

I handed the paper in at 10AM, eaten a late breakfast, run to the bookstore and then fallen asleep by 2PM.

Ten hours later I am in a sorry state.

By the time I shower and dry my hair it’s 12:30 in the morning.

I go to Jas’ room across the hall to see what was going on, it was Friday night after all.

She isn’t there, none of the girls are home.

I’m a little hurt no one had bothered to check to see if I had plans. I walk through the common room and down the hall to my room.

There is a note from Jas on the dry erase board attached to the outside of my door.

Hey Luv,

We went to check out a frat party and then we might go to a club. We’ll text you the dets, check your mobile. We knocked, but you were completely dead.

Luv Ya Bitch!

Jas

I’m now fully awake and definitely up for some fun.

I’m itching to get out of my room so I get dressed in a tight white mini dress with spaghetti straps that don’t allow for a bra and five inch, closed-toe, sparkling silver stilettos that Jas had insisted I buy.

I put on some makeup and look at myself in the mirror. Sexy yet sophisticated.

Should work for any club they had gone to and if they were still at the frat party everyone would be too drunk to care that I was overdressed.

Now where had they gone? I reach for my cell on the desk, but it isn’t where I usually keep it.

I look on my bed, the floor, the window seat.

Huh.

When was the last time I had used it?

This morning when I double checked the email which held the drop off instructions for the paper.

We were supposed to shove our papers through a slit in the instructor’s office door.

Never having been to her office, I wanted to make sure I had the right room number.

I traced my steps mentally. I sat in the hallway, I read the email again, I verified it was the right room and then…I set my phone down on the arm rest of the bench next to her door so I could open the flap with one hand and slide the paper in with the other.

I’d left my phone in one of the biggest lecture buildings, Felman Mainly.

Half of my classes were located in that building. The majority of students walked through it every day, what were the odds it was still there?

Fuck! Fuck! FUCK!!!

I grab a silver clutch, throw in my ID and some cash. If by some stroke of luck, my phone is still there, I want to be able to go straight to the girls.

I walk down the four flights of stairs and out onto The Campus.

It is a tad chilly, but the nip in the air feels welcome against my skin. I’m worked up, completely pissed at myself and praying I hadn’t lost my phone.

It was my calendar, my camera, my notebook, everything.

Felman was located just across the large quad that made up The Campus.

There are a few people out and about, most seemed to be on their way to somewhere else.

The whole area is secured by gates that could only be opened with a student ID. So were the buildings themselves.

I hope my ID gets me into FM at this time of night.

Halfway across the quad it begins to sprinkle. Damn schizo weather!

I hadn’t thought to check the weather on my laptop since that’s what my phone was for.

I use my clutch to shield my hair. I have no idea if it is helping at all, but with every step I care more about recovering my cell and less about going out.

I reach the massive door to the building and wave my ID in front of the black security strip. The red light turns green and the door unlocks.

Yes! So far so good.

The building is completely silent.

Eerily silent. Like an abandoned ant farm. All the hallways and rooms still there, but no one to take advantage of them.

Most of the lights seem to be on.

I walk down the main hallway, make a left, a right and another left.

My English instructor’s office and the bench I was looking for are at the end of the hall.

I close the distance quickly, my heels echoing—there it is my beautiful, wonderful, perfect cell phone exactly where I had left it.

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that no one had taken it. At a place where everyone had the latest of everything, it had been almost a year since my phone had been
the latest
.

I check my messages. There are three from Jas and one from Damon.

The first two from Jas explain that the frat party was lame (shocker), the third was sent twenty minutes ago:

If you’re awake meet us at Club Nine. -Jas

Oh good, they were still going out and I had my cell in hand.

I look up and realize there is a small mirror on the left side of the instructor’s door.

I step in front of it to see how I had faired through the sprinkles.

My hair looks the same, the tiny clutch had done its job. The rest of me, however,
wow
.

This is not a dress that should be worn near water.

Lesson learned.

Although, I’m nowhere near soaked, the few droplets that had fallen on my breasts make the material practically invisible.

I suddenly understand wet t-shirt contests.

I had walked quickly so my blood had been pumping, keeping me warm. Now I feel the cold.

The building is kept at a chilly temperature and my lack of movement meant the cold had caught up with me.

A chill runs up my spine and my nipples harden through the thin white fabric.

Jesus
!

I can’t go anywhere like this.

The bit of water had turned my sexy and sophisticated outfit into hooker-chic.

Total judgment.

I flush scarlet and then realize there is no one to witness my embarrassment.

I look again.

My breathing changes as I examine my breasts in the mirror. I’m practically topless.

The idea of being half-naked here, in this building, where thousands of people come every day is kind of hot.

All the lights are on, but no one is here.

I’m silently grateful that The College is so secure that there aren’t any security cameras inside the main buildings.

No one could see me.

I raise a hand to touch my collarbone. Tracing my middle finger down to the top of my breast and over my nipple.

My breathing grows shallow.

What am I going to do? Am I really bold enough to find a small classroom and finish myself off?

My thoughts are interrupted by a door closing somewhere on the main floor.

I shake my head.

Geez, snap out of it! I’m not the only one here.

I start walking back to the main entrance. I entertain the fantasy of fucking a stranger here, now, just because I’m turned on.

I enjoy the fantasy knowing there was no way in hell I’d ever be
that
bold.

I turn onto the main hallway.

Hmmm…the lecture hall where I have art history is just around the corner.

Am I ballsy enough to go in and take care of myself in there…on the desk?

I look around, whoever I heard before is nowhere in sight.

Screw it!

Why the hell not?

It was probably the least risqué thing I would do all semester.

The door to the lecture hall didn’t have a window so no one would be able to see in, even if they were still here.

I check my phone, 1:15AM. I could take a few minutes here, run back to Winsor to change and meet the girls by 1:45.

Club Nine is open until 4, and Jas would definitely be there until closing. Plenty of time.

I turn the corner and open the door.

The lights, as expected, are on.

What
is
unexpected is Erik West standing at the podium.

He turns to look as the door closes behind me. He’s wearing a white t-shirt, worn-in jeans, and black flip flops.

There is a pen in his mouth.

It falls to the floor as his eyes reach my breasts.

I feel naked as he takes in the rest of me.

His mouth goes slack. The hunger transforms his features.

He looks younger than twenty-five and older simultaneously.

My mouth waters, my nipples harden, my body ignites.

I take a step towards him.
