However
, all she really wanted was to go back to David’s apartment and repeat the last night all over again. She could not stop thinking about him. Her mind ran through every sentence of their talk, every move and sensation of their night together. He was not the jerk, who dumped her years ago, anymore. Instead, he was that cute boy she met in tennis club. Her mind chose to remember the good stuff now.

Monday morning, as Cathy walked out of the elevator into the office reception, she noticed a bunch of women spying quite openly the new marketing manager from afar. Such phrases as “yummy butt” and “I would love to eat him up”, Cathy overheard passing by, unintentionally diverted her eyes towards the newly baked manager’s location. She could not say was she more gladden or surprised when she saw David, unpacking his stuff from the box in the new office. Quickly, she went there and closed the door behind her.

“What are you doing here?” she asked impatiently.

“I took this job,” David explained. “Where were you? I’ve been calling you...”

“Why did you do that?”
Cathy interrupted.

David came closer to her and took her hand into his.

“Cathy, this time with you was great. I have already forgotten how great it can be between two people. For me it felt like we have connected, or probably revived the connection we had. It felt like I have found something that was long lost and all I know now, that I do not want to lose it again. You were right, life is too short to lose the things that really matters. Now I know what I want – you. I just know it. So, I thought about taking this job to be closer to you and try to get you back.”

“But that’s so far from your apartment. You’ll have to travel long distance every day.”

“I had no time to think about it yet. I had to make quick decision regarding this position, if I wanted to get it. First, I wanted to ask you if you’ll want to be with me, so I would know if the changes are worth it, but then I realised, that I want you in my life and won’t lose you again, so, no matter what you say, I took this position in order to win you back at all costs.”

Cathy stood there frozen, looking at him all surprised. She
did not see that coming.

“What about your girlfriend...” Cathy managed to murmur.

“Broke up yesterday,” explained David. “Life is too short to waist it on the things that won’t last”.

Somehow, the mess of thoughts and emotions, that she had the last
few days, fell into the right places and inner peace took over everything.

“So, summarising all, would you have a dinner with me tonight?” asked David.

Cathy came closer, ran her hand through his hairs, and gave him a warm look and a smile, revealing how thrilled she is. Finally, they embraced in the long and passionate kiss, both starting the new chapters of their lives.
