She swallowed hard on the emotional tears that wanted to rise. ‘I can’t believe that you are saying these things to me,’ she whispered. ‘Because I want to be your wife. I want to spend my days and nights with you. I want to have children with you. I love you, Antonio, with all my heart. I think I always have, right from the first moment I saw you.’
He looked at her and suddenly she could see the anger and the grim light of determination in his eyes turn to deep joy.
He really did love her, she thought wonderingly. This handsome gorgeous man was head over heels about her!
‘I love you, Victoria Cavelli.’ He said the words with such sincerity that it tore at her heart. ‘And I want to spend the rest of my life with you.’
She smiled, her eyes shimmering with tears of happiness.
‘Wait until your father hears that you want to settle down,’ she said teasingly.
‘I told him I was going to bring you home.’
‘Oh, did you now! That was very confident! You know I can’t just walk out on my restaurant and my staff—they mean a lot to me.’
‘We will make sure the restaurant is run well. Promote that chef—what is he called?’
‘Berni…’
He nodded.
‘You always were very bossy,’ she said with a smile. But she knew she would go back to Italy with him, knew it was where she belonged now. ‘At least you are talking to your father!’
‘Yes, thanks to you.’ He smiled at her. ‘He thinks you and Nathan are fantastic—and it’s the only thing we’ve agreed on in years. Now do you think we can forget about my father and
this restaurant and continue where we left off?’ He didn’t wait for her answer, just swept her up off her feet and into his arms to carry her through to the bedroom.
And suddenly nothing else mattered except the fact that they had found each other.
