Chapter Nine
I wake up in a cold sweat. I jump out of bed and rush into the bathroom. As my head is inside the toilet, I keep reliving that awful dream. Once my stomach is empty, I walk over to the sink and brush my teeth. My grey eyes are now bloodshot and swollen. What’s happening to me? There’s so much going through my mind and it’s stressing me out. I need to talk to my dad and find out why he thought it was acceptable to assist Ethan in breaking my heart. I’m so angry, at him, Ethan and myself.
I retrieve my cell and call Marcia. It’s 2 AM, but she said to call if I need her. The phone rings twice.
“Hello”, a drowsy Marcia answers.
“I’m sorry to call so late, but I need someone to talk to.”
“What’s wrong? Are you okay?”
“No, I’m not. I just had a nightmare about my mother.”
“Your mother? Is Phyllis okay?”
“Not her, my birthmother.”
Marcia is silent. I can’t blame her. I never talk about that part of my life.
“You still there?” I ask.
“Yes. Do you want to tell me what happened?”
“Basically my mother was a…”
It’s hard to say the words out loud.
“My mother was a crack whore. Tonight I dreamt I was just like her, sleeping with strange men for drugs and money.”
“Oh Giselle, I’m so sorry. That’s a horrible dream, but it’s not going to happen to you.”
“Dreams let you know your future and what you’ll become.”
“You’re feeling guilty about sleeping with Ethan and your imagination has gotten the best of you. It was a dreadful nightmare, but you have to realize it’s only a bad dream. You’re too good of a person to go down that path.”
“I thought I was too good of a person to cheat on Liam, but look at me, who knows what else will happen to me.”
“You have too many people who love you to let anything happen to you.”
“So did my mother and she…”
Marcia raises her voice. “You’re not your mother! Don’t ever compare yourself to her. Shit, Giselle. What the fuck is wrong with you?”
“Recently that seems to be the popular question to ask.” I sigh. “I don’t know. I need to end things with Ethan and talk to Liam. I understand that I may lose Liam but at least I’ll feel better about myself.”
“I agree. Have you spoken to your father about what Ethan said?”
“Not yet. I’m going to call tomorrow.”
“Try to keep in mind he did it out of love. Father’s will do crazy things to keep their daughter’s safe. We learned that last year, first hand.”
We both sigh, because Marcia’s father had someone beheaded for hurting her. Even though he didn’t confirm or deny it, we know it was his doing.
“I know but I’m still upset about it. I’m going to hear him out and let him explain.”
“I’m here for you every step of the way.”
“I appreciate that and sorry for calling this late.”
“Don’t apologize, you were there for me when my world was falling apart. Plus I love you.”
“I love you too. I hope I didn’t wake David.”
“Girl, please, I know how to put his ass back to sleep.”
“Too much information.”
She laughs. “Not really. I didn’t say what I’m going to do to him and with him.”
“Goodnight Marcia. Thanks again.”
“Anytime. Call me after you talk with the parents.”
I wait until its noon before calling my parents. They’re on one of their many vacations, this time they’re in the Cayman Islands. The hotel is transferring my call to their suite.
“Hello.” My mother sweetly answers using the speaker phone.
“Hey, mom.”
“Giselle, this is a lovely surprise. How are you honey?”
“I’ve been better. Is this a good time to talk?”
“I’m always available for you. What’s wrong? Are you hurt? Michael get in here, something is wrong with Giselle.”
“Oh my god mom calm down. I just wanted to talk to you and dad.”
My father’s deep voice ask, “What’s wrong?”
“Hi dad. You guys are never going to guess who I bumped into”
“I hate playing guessing games, just tell us.” My father commands.
“Ethan Thomas. He told me some very interesting things about you dad.”
“What are you talking about Giselle?” My mother asks.
“Dad knows. Ask him what he did years ago.”
“Listen to me young lady”, my father states, “If you have something to say, then say it.”
“How could you do that to me? You knew how much I loved Ethan. You destroyed my happiness.”
“I wasn’t trying to destroy your happiness. As a father it’s my responsibility to keep my daughter safe and guide her in making wise decisions. You were a child, making a hasty choice. I was saving you from a lifetime of regret.”
“It wasn’t your place to chase him off.”
My mother interrupts, “Giselle if you’re going to be upset with anyone it should be me. I told your father to tell Ethan to leave you alone.”
“What? How could you?”
She replies, “I wasn’t willing to let you throw your future away. It broke my heart to see you in pain, but it was necessary.”
“I can’t believe this. The two people who I trusted have lied to me and ruined my life.”
“Stop being dramatic”, says my mother, “Your life turned out wonderful. You have a successful business, wonderful friends and a great man in your life.”
She’s right but I’m still mad at her.
“Maybe we handled things wrong, but you refused to listen. We did it out of love. We love you.”
“I know and I love you guys.”
We talk for a little while longer. They asked about Liam, it was hard not telling them what’s really going on, but no daughter wants her parents to know she’s a slut. I tell them that I’m not upset with them anymore. It’s the truth. My life would have been hell if Ethan and I had gotten married. We weren’t ready and probably would have ended up hating each other. Now I just need to clean up the mess I have recently created. This is something I’m not looking forward to.
Chapter Ten
Liam’s coming home tomorrow and I still haven’t had a conversation with Ethan. I’m being childish by ignoring his calls. I created this situation and now it’s time to end it. I grab my phone and call Ethan.
“Little Rebel, you finally decide to call me. Where are you? I’m coming to get you.”
“I’m calling you to tell you goodbye.”
He chuckles, “With us there’ll never be goodbye.”
“You’re wrong, I’m in a relationship and sleeping with you isn’t right. I’m not this person.”
“You’re just confused and don’t know what you want.”
“That may be true, but I can’t keep cheating on Liam.”
“I love you.”
My eyes become watery.
“Ethan, I can’t say it back. I’m not sure how I feel.”
He’s quiet for several seconds.
“End things with him. Then we will work on us. Don’t over think it, just do it.”
Before I can respond, he hangs up.
The dark cloud has finally been lifted from above me. I begin to do some light cleaning. My ipod’s blasting “Happy” by Pharrell Williams. I actually feel happy.
After cleaning for hours, I take a snack break. I grab a yogurt from the refrigerator and take a spoonful, and I feel hands on my waist. I drop my yogurt and quickly turn around. It’s Liam.
“You scared me. I thought you were coming home tomorrow.”
Liam seems different. His dark eyes are full of passion and desire. Heat’s radiating off his sexy body. He doesn’t speak. He leans towards me and licks the spilled yogurt off my lips. My breathing quickens, my nipples become hard and my vagina’s leaking.
Oh my god, this is what I always wanted.
Liam attacks my mouth with his soft lips and inserts his moist tongue. Our tongues become fully acquainted as he lifts me up and sits me on the counter. His strong hands are groping my petite body. Under my thin tank he discovers that I’m not wearing a bra. He wickedly smiles and pinches my left nipple. I’m in ecstasy and can’t get my thoughts together. I firmly wrap my legs around his waist.
“Giselle, you’re right, it’s time we take our relationship to the next level.”
He slips his right hand through the bottom of my shorts and glides his finger into my extremely moist lady part. I moan and come at the same time. He slowly removes his finger and brings it to his perfect mouth and licks off my juices.
I can’t believe this is happening. I’m speechless and my body’s on fire. I have to stop this. I can’t sleep with Liam before making my confession. Liam starts nibbling on my neck and begins saying things I never thought I would hear him say. I have to stop this now.
“We can’t do this.”
“I have a condom and we can clean the counter afterwards.”
“No, Liam we can’t. I have something I need to tell you.”
Instantly the lust leaves the room and tension arrives. Liam stops touching me and I slide off the counter. My palms are sweaty. I feel sick.
“Who is he?”
“What?”
“I’m not stupid, the signs are there.”
I start crying. “I’m so sorry. It didn’t mean anything.”
He yells, “Who is he?”
“My ex. He called me out of the blue and.” I can’t continue.
“And you fucked him!”
I turn my back to him and whisper “Yes.”
“Look at me,” he orders. I do. “I thought you were different and special that’s why I never rushed things between us. But you’re just like every other woman, just looking to get fucked.”
“Don’t say that, I care about you, us.”
He lets out a harsh laugh. “Says the girl who’s fucking someone else.”
“I’m so sorry.”
“Save it for someone who gives a fuck.” He slams the door.
Chapter Eleven
The girls try to make me feel better but no matter what’s said I feel awful. Carmen finds out when Liam goes to their house and yells, “Why didn’t you tell me your friend’s a whore?” This is beyond embarrassing. Marcia orders Chinese and a large pepperoni pizza while Carmen makes drinks. They decide we’re going to have a sleepover.
“You two aren’t obligated to stay here, you have husbands who need you.”
“Girl shut up,” Marcia says. “Our husbands know we’re always going to be there for each other.”
I look at Carmen. She’s been very quiet.
“Cooper knows I’m staying here with you, because I was about to fuck up Liam’s ass.” She pauses. “You could’ve told me. I wouldn’t have said anything to Cooper.”
“I know, but I didn’t want to put you in the middle.”
We sip our drinks and eat on the couch. Marcia holds something behind her back.
“I know what will make you feel better.”
She reveals my favorite movie,
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
. She passes out chocolates and Carmen hands me chocolate Now and Laters. When the oompa loompa’s start singing, Marcia gets excited and asks me to perform. This makes me laugh.
