Chapter One

Last month has been super crazy. Liam and I have been secretly planning a wedding reception for our friends, Marcia and David. Here’s the kicker, my best friend Marcia, and David aren’t together anymore. They broke up three months ago. Marcia keeps herself extremely busy with her new boutique,
Guilty Pleasure
. She has tried to keep a brave face, but at night I hear her cry. It breaks my heart because she really loves David. But relationships can be challenging especially when one party hurts the other it’s hard to fix. I know they have hooked up one time since their break up, but nothing came out of that. Liam and I thought they were going to get back together. But the problem is they’re both stubborn and have too much pride. Just say sorry and move on, geesh.

Imagine my surprise when David called and asked for me to have everyone meet at
Indulgence,
which is my and Liam’s catering company. The entire crew was there, myself, Liam, Carmen (my other best friend) and her husband Cooper, then David dropped the bomb. He told us that he was going to propose to Marcia on the night of her boutique’s opening. Of course Carmen and I thought it was very romantic, like something you would see in a sentimental movie. Then the panic kicked in when I realized we didn’t have much time. Thankfully Liam’s in charge of the food. David had already reserved the Wellington Inn for the reception and wants them to get married at the courthouse. He’s going to Paris and wants to take Marcia as his wife…don’t you just love it. Luckily for David, Marcia said yes. They were grinning and of course they couldn’t keep their hands off of each other.

I’m skipping my morning run to ensure that Marcia is up. Since David stayed over they’re probably still screwing. Before I check on her, I walk into Liam’s room and discover a naked Liam. Oh my god, his butt is toned and the muscles in his back are visible. I’ve never seen him like this. I lose my breath for a second, there’s warmness in my cheeks. I can’t believe it I’m hot and bothered. Liam turns around and his mouth opens. Instantly, he grabs a pair of black pants.

“Giselle, what are you doing in here?”

I have lost the ability to speak. He puts on a white button down shirt and continues to dress.

“Are you going to answer me?”

Snap out of it Giselle.
“I was coming to say good morning and to make sure you had everything you needed.”

“Everything is under control. Your job is harder since you have to deal with the girls.” I smile but my mind is on other things. Scanning his body, my eyes land on his crotch. He never put on boxers. Liam approaches me.

“Is there anything else you need?”

I want to scream
yes, you,
but I answer, “No, see you later.”

He kisses my cheek and I follow him out of the room.

Seeing Liam in his birthday suit has me in a daze, I don’t realize that I walk into Marcia’s bathroom without knocking.

“Morning, Giselle.”

“I want to have sex and a lot of it,” I say.

Marcia grins as David drops his toothbrush.

“Oh my god, David I’m so sorry. I don’t know what has come over me.”

“It’s simple you’re horny. This is so great!” exclaims Marcia. “Go pounce on Liam, grrr.”

“Ladies this is my queue to leave. Marcia, make sure you are at the courthouse at 2PM.”

While they kiss he squeezes her butt, I wonder what it would feel like if Liam did that to me. We’ve never shared a passionate kiss; it’s always a peck on the lips or cheek.

“See you later, Giselle.”

“Bye, David.”

“When was the last time you and Liam had sex?”

Embarrassed, I answer, “Never.”

“Never? I knew you two weren’t fucking. What’s wrong with you guys?”

“I’m starting to think maybe he isn’t attracted to me because he never tries anything.”

“Have you initiated anything?”

“What? I’m not that kind of girl.”

Marcia sighs, “That’s the reason you’re not getting laid.”

We arrive at
Salon L’ Me.
Since Marcia’s grand opening was last night, we don’t require a lot of work. Basically, we’re just getting our hair done. Carmen walks in, her hair is a mess; she looks exhausted and has a Starbucks cup in her hand.

“Morning,” she whispers.

Marcia asks, “Are you hung over?”

She flops down in the chair, “No girl, Cooper kept me up all night. He was like a wild animal, just couldn’t get enough of me.”

Great, now I have to hear about Carmen getting busy. This is too much. I politely excuse myself.

There’s more to life than having sex. I need to call
Indulgence
to make sure everything is going smoothly. Liam answers on the second ring.

“Hey.”

“Why are you answering the phone with hey? Don’t tell me you forgot the proper way to answer.”

“We have caller id, I knew it was you. Are you okay?”

“Of course I’m okay. Just making sure you guys are staying abreast of the time and sticking to the schedule.”

“Stop worrying. Enjoy your time with your friends and make sure you’re on time.”

With an attitude I retort, “I’m always on time.”

“What’s wrong with you today?”

Everything. I’m horny!
“Nothing, see you later.”

When I get back to the girls, they’re finished having their hair shampooed. The guilty look on their faces give them away. They’ve been discussing me.

“What?” I ask with my hands on my hips.

Carmen speaks up, “Marcia and I were discussing your problem.”

“My problem?”

“Yes the lack of dick in your life.”

Irritated, I utter, “Marcia, don’t be so vulgar.”

“Anyway,” says Carmen, “I had this problem with Cooper after the accident. He wouldn’t give me any, so I made a cd with sexual music and seduced him.”

Marcia laughs, “I would have loved to see that.”

Carmen replies, “You would, you freak.”

“Giselle, I think you should jump his bones, like I said earlier. Be aggressive.”

“Okay, girls, enough talk about my nonexistent sex life. Today is about Marcia, who’s getting married.”

“Nice try, changing the subject, but now my mission in life is to get you fucked by Liam.”

I laugh. I love Marcia and her nasty mouth.

At the courthouse Marcia and David repeat their vows to one another. Marcia looks elegant in her gown, it’s a lustrous rich cream enhanced with colorful confetti that consists of different shades of purple. David’s tuxedo is exquisitely cut and his tie is a perfect match to Marcia’s attire.

Marcia appears to be in a blissful trance; her mom is crying and both of her fathers are standing with their chests poked out. Surprisingly, we all were allowed to witness this special occasion. Liam has already left and headed over to Wellington Inn.

While walking to the car, my phone rings and the screen displays
unknown caller
. I let it go to voicemail. A few seconds later the same number calls again, I send it to voicemail. After the third time, I decide this must be important.

“Hello?”

“You finally answered.”

Oh my god, it’s Ethan.

“How did you get this number?” I ask.

“It was only a matter of time before I found you.”

Chapter Two

Ethan Daniels. I haven’t seen or thought about him in 5 years, not since he broke my heart.

“Giselle, you still there?”

“What do you want? Why are you calling me out of the blue?

“Meet me tonight, we need to talk.”

“There’s nothing to talk about. I’m in a relationship.”

The line becomes silent.

“Are you happy?”

“Yes.”

“Meet me so I can see for myself.”

“I can’t, please don’t call me anymore.”

He laughs. “I will call you until you agree to see me.”

I hang up, close my eyes and take a deep breathe.

“I can’t let him ruin this day.”

Marcia’s reception has to be astounding especially since her ceremony was small and intimate. The hall is astonishing with every shade of purple in sight. The round tables hold an oversized wineglass used for the centerpiece, which is filled with an assortment of violet flowers and ivy leaves. The arrangement on both ends of the open bar have a silver vase filled with mini lavender roses that have been cut to form a heart.

Mr. and Mrs. Parker walk into the hall hand in hand. Love is in the air and plastered on their faces. As I admire the couple, my heart feels like it’s going to leap out of my chest, when a pair of strong hands are placed on my shoulders.

“Hey baby. I didn’t mean to startle you.”

Liam begins massaging my shoulders and comments on how tense I am.

Quickly I remove his hands and say, “We’re the face of
Indulgence
and it’s not appropriate for you to be groping me at an event.”

His irritation clearly shows on his face as his smile disappears. “What is your problem today? It’s like I can’t do anything right? Tell me what I did so I can apologize and we move can on.”

I want to express that his penis is the only answer to my problem, but I refrain. I have to keep the peace because this day needs to be impeccable for Marcia and David.

“It’s the stress of today and how important it is for our friends and our business. I couldn’t have pulled this off without you. I’m sorry.”

He kisses my forehead. “This place looks incredible, it’s everything you envisioned. You never give yourself enough credit. Go over there and join the party. The staff and I will handle the rest.”

“That sounds real good, but it wouldn’t feel right with you guys working and me partying.”

“Just think about it.” He kisses my right cheek softly before heading back to the kitchen area.

Marcia hugs me. “Giselle, this place looks amazing. You know how to throw a party! Everything smells delicious. I can’t wait to eat.”

“I can’t take all the credit. I had help from Carmen, Cooper, and Liam. I wouldn’t have been able to pull it off without them. Our goal was to make this was everything you could ever wish for.

“All my dreams have come true. I married the love of my life and get to celebrate with the people I love the most. Thank you for everything.”

Maria’s smile widens, she grabs my hand and rushes to hug Francisco and Sean.

“Mr. Armani is in the building.” Marcia jokingly says.

“You shouldn’t have expected anything less.” Francisco responds.

“You guys, you remember my good friend Giselle?”

I smile and say “Hello.”

“Of course, I remember. Nice to see you again Giselle.” Sean shakes my hand but Francisco hugs me.

“Nice to see you as well. I’m glad you could make it.”

“I wouldn’t have missed this for the world. It’s not every day a nasty slut like Marcia commits to marriage. And my, my, my, what a fine one she has landed.”

Marcia hits his arm playfully. “That’s the pot calling the kettle black.”

The three of them, start to catch up and I excuse myself. I walk into the kitchen to check on the main courses. Liam’s working hard, checking plates one by one making sure they’re up to par. He’s a wonderful man, but right now all I think of is Ethan. His call has completely thrown me off. Why is
he
contacting me after so long? Did he ever love me? All of these questions are running through my mind until I notice Liam staring at me.

“Are you okay? I’ve called your name several times.”

“Yea, I have a million things on my mind.”

“I told you to enjoy the party, and I would handle this.”

The main room becomes quiet, except for the clinking sound of something metal being hit against glass. Carmen is standing with Cooper, microphone in one hand and champagne glass in the other, preparing to make a toast. Before she begins, she requests for Liam and I to join them.

“David and Marcia, we love you guys. Love is amazing and to share it with your soul mate is indescribable”, states Carmen. She hands me the mic.

“Who would have ever thought this day would come…Marcia getting married.” There are a few chuckles in crowd. Marcia rolls her eyes and looks at David. He kisses her. “David you have brought so much joy into our girl’s life, for that we love you.” I lift my glass. “Cheers to a happily ever after for Mr. and Mrs. Parker.”

Marcia and David say a few words and thanks us for putting this together in a short period of time. The DJ announces that it’s time for the couple’s first dance. David takes Marcia’s hand and leads her out to the dance floor. Her mom is busy snapping pictures, as her dads smile while holding their drinks at the bar. Liam and I head back into the kitchen and alert the staff it’s time for the entrees to be served.

We receive many compliments on the dishes. The choices are penne pasta with homemade tomato basil sauce or oven roasted chicken accompanied with roasted red skin potatoes. Both entrées come with a side of green beans or garden salad.

Once the guest are finished eating, the DJ starts the party. The girls rush to the floor and are shouting for me to join them. I laugh and shake my head no, but Liam tells me to enjoy myself. He doesn’t have to tell me twice. We laugh as we dance. I look at my besties and I want what they have to be madly in love. Yes, I love Liam but we lack passion, lust and desire. I don’t, he does.

The next song is a slow one for couples. The guys join us. Marcia is looking into David’s eyes, and Carmen is trying to get Cooper’s hand to lay on her waist not her butt. I giggle at her struggle, at the same time wishing I had that same problem with Liam. I close my eyes as I lay my head on Liam’s shoulder, and reminisce when Ethan and I were slow dancing at prom. This isn’t right, quickly I open my eyes and something, no someone captures my attention from the back corner of the room. I’m squinting to see, the area is dark, the figure leaves the shadow and it’s Ethan. I gasp and freeze.

Liam looks down and asks. “What’s wrong?”

I frantically search the room for Ethan. What is he doing here? I don’t see him anywhere. Great now my mind is playing tricks on me.

“Giselle.”

I look up at Liam. “Nothing, I’m just tired.” I give him a weak smile.

“When they leave, I want you to go home and get some rest. I’ll take care of everything here.”

After our dance, it’s time to cut the cake. Marcia and David walk to the square table that is in the far right corner, which holds the guest gifts and their cake. David has a firm grip on the knife. Marcia’s hand is over his as they cut into the bottom layer of the three tiered square cake. It is made with dark purple fondue, each square holding unique colored orchids. After the first piece is cut, Marcia places it on her tongue and David sucks it off. They’re gross. I have a small piece of cake and say goodbye to everyone.

During my drive home, I think of Ethan and Ethan only.

I’m lying on my stomach in the bed when Liam enters my room.

“Baby, you awake?”

I rollover onto my back. “Yea.”

He sits on my bed and places his hand on my forehead, “How are you feeling?”

“I feel fine.” I pause then announce “Let’s have sex.”

He stares at me for a moment, he leans over me,
yes, yes, I’m going to get some
, but he kisses my forehead and tells me to get some sleep. I pull him close. “I’m serious. I need you inside of me.”

He frees himself from my grip. “What’s wrong with you? You have been acting crazy all day.”

This causes me to sit up. “What’s wrong with you? I just told you I want to have sex.”

Liam walks towards my bedroom door and states, “Get some sleep, we’ll talk in the morning.”

I watch him walk out of my room with my mouth wide open. I can’t believe that just happened. My vagina is purring. Can women get blue walls, like men get blue balls? I wish I would have invested in a vibrator, but I want the real thing.

Pissed, I retrieve my phone and stare at Ethan’s number. Sex was always fantastic with him. I send him a text.

I’m available tomorrow at 3 pm. Meet me at the Starbucks on Nelson Street. Don’t be late
.

He replies.
Can’t wait to see you
.

Maybe I shouldn’t have done that, but it’s innocent. We’re just two old friends catching up. Right?

Chapter Three

Liam and I need to discuss what happened—well what didn’t happen last night. After I shower and throw on an orange tank top with white yoga pants, I take a deep breath and go find him. He’s sitting on the couch watching TV.

“We need to talk.”

He turns off the TV. “Yea, what’s the problem?”

“My problem is that my boyfriend doesn’t want to have sex with me.”

He shakes his head with disgust, “Our relationship isn’t based on sex and right now sex isn’t important.”

“It’s important to me. Is there someone else?”

He walks over to me and gently lifts my head. “There’s no one else, we just need to take things slow.”

“We’ve been together for months, if we go any slower my vagina is going to close.”

Liam frowns. “Giselle, what’s wrong with you? You’re starting to sound like your slutty friends.”

“They have nothing to do with our problems”

“I wasn’t aware that we had problems. Don’t start acting like them.”

“This conversation is pointless. Guess my feelings and what I want don’t matter.”

I stand there, looking into his warm chocolate eyes, hoping he will say something, anything that will make me feel better, but he doesn’t. His phone begins to ring. Glancing at it, he says, “I have to take this.” I start to walk away, but he grabs my hand stalling me. “Let’s not fight.” He kisses my forehead.

That just pisses me off more. I feel like I’ve been fed a load of crap. He’s not sleeping with me because someone else has to be in the picture. It can’t be any other reason.

In my room I see my phone lighting up. There’s a text from Ethan.

Looking forward to seeing you, little rebel.

I haven’t been called that in forever. Little rebel. My friends wouldn’t consider me as rebellious. What have I done?

I reply,
Me too
.

I wish Marcia was here to help me pick out an outfit. I look through my closest for something casual and not sexually inviting. I settle on a cream pleated flowing blouse with slit sleeves. My denim jeans are rolled up showing off the camel, open toe patterned shoes with matching handbag. Liam knocks on my door. I ignore him. A few moments later, he walks in and sits on the bed beside me.

“I just got a call from my friend, Mike. He recently opened a restaurant in Houston and wants me to train his chefs. If I accept it, I’ll be gone for two weeks. I want to know your thoughts.”

“If you want to go, then go.”

“We’re business partners and I want to make sure you’ll be able to handle
Indulgence
in my absence.”
