“I heard you.” I reassured her. “You don’t need to worry so much. My life there is done now. It’s time we focus on this. Can you not see anything?” I asked Eirene, trying to move forward without discussion.

“No, nothing and I can’t figure out why?” She was frustrated in herself.

“It’s fine. The information you got for us will help us figure out what we need to do.” I encouraged her.

“Zoe? Have you figured out anything that could work in our favor?” I looked over to see her looking through some scrolls.

“I’m still working on it. I’ve asked Hephaistos for some help and I think we are coming up with something.” She answered.

“What in the world are they trying to do?” I asked myself out loud. “Eirene, now that you three have found out where they are, you’ll need to keep an eye on them. If anything out of the ordinary happens tell me immediately. Zoe, continue what you were doing and let me know of any progress. As for myself, I’ll need to leave now. I’ve been busy thinking what we would need and I think I figured out what.” I said anxiously.

“What is it?” Eva asked.

“I’m going to ask the Protogenos to help us.” I noted. Eva looked at me like she had no clue what I was talking about.

“The who?” asked Eva.

“Seriously Eva, even when you were mortal you had no clue of our religion and stories. The Protogenos are the primeval gods. They’re the parents of the Titans.” Zoe answered her, but turned to me.

“Psykhe, why are you going to them?” Zoe’s worried look was staring back at me.

“We need them.” I shrugged. “I think that if I could just use their powers, we can eliminate the Diavolis in one night.”

“Don’t you think that’s being too ambitious?” asked Agape.

“Maybe, but I’d rather go big and see what we can do then do this little tit for tat that they have us doing. While we sit here they are probably planning an all out assault and at least we can come out ready.” I glanced at my sisters, all looked like they were ready to follow me anywhere. I stood up ready to leave for the Akris lands where the Protogenos live.

The Akris Lands

The Akris lands were an area of Olympos that the bordered reality and the cosmos, it looked like a tear in time. I stood in front of it, wary of what I was getting myself into. I looked at this void of darkness and I knew that even Zeus wouldn’t venture into it. But with the last meeting I had with him concerning the Diavolis, I knew that he wouldn’t really want to help me either way.

I took two steps towards the void and I took a deep breath, I was about to jump in, before I got smacked hard on the back.

“Hey!”Eva cried out. “I can’t believe I finally sneaked up on you!” She cried out happy with herself.

“What are you doing here?” I asked. “I didn’t hear any thoughts of you coming here.” I was annoyed that she was able to slip through my defences.

“Well I only decided to come after you left. I figured I could at least come see you off. I hear that not even the gods go there and you’re planning to just walk in? Seriously Psykhe, is it really necessary to go?” She asked leaning in looking at the tear.

“I don’t know either, but my gut tells me, that I should. If at least one of them should care to help, we can turn the tides to our favor.” I answered.

“Psykhe, I know that I rarely care about what’s really going on and I do whatever you tell me, but even Eirene has foreseen that this battle will turn into a war. That this will not simply end in one night. We’ll be at this for centuries.” She said matter of factly.

“It was said that us coming here would change the fate to our side, so this has to be the right decision.” I looked at her.

“Nervous, huh?” She asked smiling.

“Why, can you tell?” I asked meekly.

I didn’t wait for her answer. I took one large breath and edged forward.

“Well?” She said waiting.

I could feel the wind pulling me in. My name was being quietly whispered, beckoning me as though they knew I was coming. I felt my instincts kick in. I reached for Eva’s hand and pulled her inside with me.

We both landed hard. I looked up and could see the tear, but from the other side. The sun and the sky were bright and welcoming. It looked like a small beacon of hope, a stark difference of the dark and desolate area we were now in.

“Hey!” screamed Eva, as she punched me hard in the back. “I didn’t say I’d come with you!” I shrugged.

“Oh come off it, like I was going to come here by myself after you came. It’s your own fault for following me.” I stuck out my tongue at her.

As we were having our little spat, I noticed a grey mist creating a hand which was summoning for us to follow.

“Hey did you see that?” I stood staring at it. “Eva?” I whispered

“Yeah, I see it too.” She answered looking at the same thing I was.

“Be on guard” I murmured.

We could hear our names being sung to us, as we followed the mist. The area around us began to change, the veil of darkness began to lift itself and a whole new world began to emerge.

We both stood on top of a rock face looking down onto the valley below us. It mirrored the world that we had just come from, but it was different. It was calmer, more peaceful. The colors were bright, but muted. The sky here was almost pale white, making it hard to see the bellowing clouds. A large mountain range snaked around the beautiful grassy lands and ended by an immense rock cliff, which had giant alcoves carved inside them. One single stream flowed through the land making it a perfect scene. It was gently flowing and twisting through its path to the peaceful aqua colored ocean below, making for a beautiful waterfall.

“Its beautiful.” breathed Eva taking in everything around her. “There’s no one here.” I said under my breath.

“What?” Eva asked.

“The quiet murmurs I hear in Olympos or the voices that echo in my mind when we’re on land. I can’t hear it here.” I was astonished almost scared. I hadn’t realized how exhausting it was having all that noise in my mind. All I could hear was the sound of my own voice. I was happy that I finally had my soul back all to myself. It’s then that I realized I couldn’t hear Eva either. I looked at her.

“What is it?” She looked puzzled.

“I can’t hear you.” I whispered.

“WHAT IS IT?” She yelled grabbing my shoulders and shaking me a little.

“No stupid. I can’t hear your thoughts.” I shook my head at her.

“Oh, okay.” She laughed. “Does that mean I can’t stop time?” She asked. She extended her hands and tried, but nothing happened.

“I guess not.” I answered.

The mist whispered for us to follow and we continued down a winding path until we finally reached a cliff. The cliff was steep, but not frightening. The grass grew over the cliff until jagged rocks prevent it from going any further. The quiet still ocean from before now had waves that were hitting the rock cliff hard, both Eva and I were being sprayed with misty water. We both stood there waiting until we felt a great rumble from the ground. The earth shook beneath us. We both looked around to find its source when from the earth surged up a beautiful older woman appeared, her figure full and curvaceous, but very sensual.

“Well, I heard we had visitors, but I didn’t think that my grandson’s wayward younger daughters would just appear here without permission.” Her demeanour was cheerful and happy, but her words were not.

“I apologize if I didn’t do this in the proper manner, but I needed to speak to at least one of you.” I lowered my head hoping to keep it.

“What is it that that is so important that you need to speak to us?” Another voice came from behind us. The ocean had come together and pushed up a woman over the cliff. She looked like she lived in the ocean since the dawn of time, her dark green hair full of sea life. She looked much thinner and younger than the woman who appeared from the ground. I stood awestruck and nervous until Eva reached over and nudged me. I shook my head and began to plead my case.

“On earth, there is a menace that is threatening the very place that you have created. They are called the Diavolis and they are bent on destroying all human kind and everything related to it.” I finished my speaking hoping to have hit some cord.

“And?” The old woman asked watching us carefully.

“I was seeking help or advice on how to deal with this.” I added.

“Understand this little one, we do not care. The earth that I created will still exist, even if humans are gone.” I looked at her with all astonishment.

“But if they take over, they will ruin all that you have taken great care to create. Please help us.” I begged.

“Do you know who we are?” She asked with contempt.

“Yes.” I lowered my head. “You are Gaea and you are Thalassa.” I turned and looked at the woman behind me. “Please just at least give me something.”

Thalassa laughed. “And why should we?”

I sighed heavily. “Because you are the creators therefore you are its protectors too.” I answered.

“We gave birth to our sons and daughters to do that very job and then they passed it onto their children, so why should it concern us?” Gaea said smugly.

I couldn’t believe my ears, it’s as though I was speaking to Zeus himself. They were all the same, at that moment my blood began to boil.

“I can’t believe this!” I yelled at the top of my lungs. “Fine, lose everything. It’s like talking to Zeus, just keep passing everything onto us and we’ll have to figure it out. Thank you so much for showing me why we Greeks are looked on as spoiled brats that care only for ourselves and no one else. Thank you!” I kept yelling. Eva kept pulling on my arm to stop.

“What?” I snapped at her. My eyes expressing how I felt. “So I guess if I were to go to the Titans they’d say the same right? Fine, sorry to have disturbed you. You can go back to doing nothing.” I ended my rant with a “Come on Eva we’re leaving” and began to walk away from both of these women, who I thought would be my last resort.

“Stop!” Gaea yelled after me.

I was still angry, but slowly realizing that I just yelled at a woman that made Zeus tremble. Fear began to kick in, but I had no other choice, but to listen to her.

“So my insolent little grandson who I tried desperately to dethrone is the same way? I’m intrigued, come.” She motioned her hand to me to follow her. Thalassa lowered herself onto the cliff using the water that held her up. Eva and I followed Gaea until we reached a stone table that was near a pomegranate grove.

The flowers were in full bloom. Their petals glowing a bright red. There were so many flowers, that you can barely see any leaves. It looked so beautiful. There were so many trees that I almost forgot where I was.

“Sit!” Gaea commanded. She waved her hands over the table and food and wine appeared. “I made this wine myself. It’s from the pomegranates that I grow.” Gaea gestured behind us. “You have taken a great risk to yourself and your sister for coming here and seeing us, so I suppose I should at least listen to you.” She gestured that we take some food and wine. “I guess I shouldn’t ask why my stupid grandson didn’t come or why any on my offspring didn’t show any interest. I realized that I may have come off that I do not care, but I needed to make sure you were serious. When you mention my grandson it brought me great unhappiness. I created many creatures to help me thwart him, but it never came to pass, he has always been in control and I finally came to the understanding that he was strong enough to rule the earth that I created. But he seems to have neglected his duties. Which makes me even angrier, contrary to what you think, I have visited earth many times and to be honest humans might not need saving. Perhaps this is just the best way to eliminate them.” She noted.

I stared at this extraordinary frightening woman, who in one breath, said she could have killed Zeus and cared very little for human kind.

“Drink!” She reached for my glass and offered it to me. All four of us drank. I had never had such a bittersweet wine before.

“Do you like it?” She asked.

“Yes very much.” I answered carefully.

“And you?” She looked at Eva. Eva simply nodded and asked for more, which made Gaea and Thalassa laugh.

“So why should we help?” Thalassa asked as she poured us more wine. Her face was radiant as she waited for my answer.

“Because I need it, I need to have someone with real power on my side.” I admitted. “I love my father, but they are all so detached from what is happening. I know we have the strength to do this, but I really don’t know the full picture of what the Diavolis are doing. I need to have my own surprises up my sleeve.” I said serious tone, as I took a large sip of wine, trying to calm my nerves. “Humans are what they are, but for some reason we are there to protect them and this place.” I continued. “I can sit here and argue why and give you reasons, but honestly, I don’t think that’s what you want from me.” I finally took the last of my wine. Gaea sat quietly thinking

“You are right Psykhe.” She finally replied.

“How do you….” before I could finish my question.

“Everyone knows who you all are. Do not think because we are here in the Akris lands that we were ignorant to what is going on. I will think about it. That is my answer. I will inform the rest of the Protogenos and they will be free to decide. If they do, they will only come to you and you alone. Understand?” She said bluntly and I nodded. “You have impressed me and that is hard to do.” She smiled.
