“Thanks for the help. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for that text,” he says smiling.

She giggles softly, “I know. I’m a genius at these things.”

“Kitty Kat, are you ready to go shake things up a little?” My dad asks.

I bite down on my lip, trying to fight the ridiculous smile that’s plastered on my face. “You bet.”

When the band starts to play, the three of us are sitting watching the happy couple take their first dance as husband and wife. Everyone is cheering them on, Rebecca’s family the loudest. I look over to the table next to us, My Aunt Rachel, My Uncle Bill and Lauren are sitting quietly.

I yell over, “Lauren why don’t you come sit with us?”

She stands, walking over. “Thanks, the old people table is boring. But, you didn’t have to, I haven’t been that a great of a cousin or friend for that matter,” she says apologetically.

I shrug, “Ah, don’t worry about it. I want you to have fun tonight.” I do want her to have fun, I want everyone to have fun tonight.

I look all around, watching Cameron, Jessica, Rebecca and my father. Never in a million years did I think I’d be happy having a new mother, and a boyfriend in Naperville. My entire plan when I moved here was so much different from how it turned out, and for some reason I’m just fine with that.

I’m lost deep in thought, when Cameron grabs my hand, pulling me onto the dance floor. “Let’s dance,” he insists.

I look back at Jess, she’s smiling and talking to Lauren. I feel his hands wrap around my waist, pulling me in closer. I rest my head on his shoulder, swaying to the music, his hand reaches up and intertwines in my hair. I lift my head up, staring into his green eyes and kiss his lips.

He moans and then mumbles under his breath, “I’ve missed you so much.”

“I’m so sorry. It’s all my fault.”

We stop dancing momentarily, “I think I’d wait just about forever for you. It’s okay y’know? I understand why you did it,” he says, spinning me around.

I ask teasingly, “Will you sing a song for me tonight?”

He smiles, “Not a chance. I’ve got you exactly where I want you. I’m not letting go of you tonight.”

That’s just fine with me!

It’s July Fourth. My Dad and Rebecca are on a weekend trip to Napa for a little honeymoon, and Jess has been spending the weekend with me. Unfortunately for her, Cameron hasn’t let me out of his sight, other than going home to sleep at night.

A group of us are sitting on a blanket in Knoch Park, waiting for the firework display to go off. It’s almost time. Gabby and Max are still together. I didn’t see that one coming into fruition, but it did. Jess and Will are wondering off, checking out the different vendors. Hmmm? If I know Jess, and I do...she’s perfectly content charming the socks of a Will. Cameron is sitting behind me with his arms wrapped tightly around me, his lips lingering in his favorite spot.

“You know, I can always get another tattoo if you like this one so much.”

He whispers in my ear, “What would you get?”

I shrug, “What should I get?”

He’s silent for a few moments before he answers, “How about we both get one? Something to remind each other while we’re away from each other.”

I whip around. “You’d do that?”

He kisses my cheek softly. “I’d do anything for you.”

“Well, I don’t know if that’s completely necessary.”

“Oh, really. Why not? Aren’t you going to miss me?”

I answer bluntly, “Nope.”

He flips me around so that my legs are now straddling him. The fireworks start to go off. I’m hugging him as I look up seeing red, white and blue colors glistening in the sky.

“Why would you say that?” He asks with a hurt look.

I lean into his ear and whisper, “Because I’ve decided to trade in my flip flops for snow boots.”

He pulls me back, staring into my eyes.

“What do you mean?”

“It means, if you still want me, I’m coming with you to Colorado.”

“Are you serious?”

“One hundred percent. Besides someone once told me...never say never.”

“I’ll always want you, Kat,” he says before his lips find mine once more. I hear the fireworks going off, the ewws and the ahhs, but I ignore them. His kiss is too intoxicating to pay attention to anything else.

I’m not afraid anymore, because I’m holding onto the only one that I want to fall into forever with.
