Her present, I remind myself so I sit back further, reaching for it. I hand Ever the wrapped up box and her eyes light up. I get up off of her so she can sit up and open it. Ever gets all the wrapping paper off and the box open. Her smile grows, taking over her face. She looks over at me.
I love it, thank you!

Happy Valentine's Day, Sugar.

Happy Valentine's Day, Baby. I have your present, do you want it?

I don't understand this whole Valentine's business. I thought it was just for a guy to get his woman something to show he cares about her. My dad never did anything for my mom, so when Ever started hinting at February the fourteenth, I looked into it. I asked some of the guys but them sonofabitches weren't much help.

I answer her question with a shy smile. No one has ever gotten me anything.
Yeah, I want it.

Ever grabs her big tote bag, then pulls out a wrapped up rectangular box. I take it from her, sitting it on my lap, and when I get it open, my heart clenches at the present she got me.
You got me a whole drawing kit?

Well yeah, I hope you like it. It has a sketchpad, pencils, chalk - everything you would need.
The pink takes over and she bites the inside of her cheek.

I can see that and I love it, Sugar. I'm just taken back. No one has ever gotten me anything before. Promise me something.

Anything.

Promise me that I can draw you. I want you to be the first I make with this.

Her beautiful smile comes.
I promise.

Oh, I have another present for you.

I give her a sexy grin, get off the bed and go over to my closet, opening it up. I pull the frame out, then turn it around to show her.

Ever's mouth parts and she covers her plump lips with her fingers.
Writer, it's amazing!

I made her a portrait and had it framed. I drew the two of us, my hands cupping her cheeks, her hands gripping my cut, and we are looking at each other. Her head is tilted up, mine is tilted down. We are on the rooftop and I put the night sky above us.

I watch her as she brings her fingers up to the top button of her blouse. Buttons fall open one right after the other.
What are you doing?

Well, this has been the most amazing Valentine's Day ever. You took me to dinner, gave me a stuffed animal, now you give me this. The least I can do is keep my promise.

I swallow hard, trying to get the tightness out of my throat.
You want me to draw you naked?

That's the idea.
Her grin takes over so I pull my new kit out and get ready. I think we will be taking several breaks before this is finished.

HANGER

I wake to an empty bed and I know just where my Crazy Girl is. After pulling on some basketball shorts, I walk down the hallway to Damien's room, where the door is ajar. I open it a little more and lean against the door frame, watching her rock our son. I still have a hard time believing that she is mine, my Ol' Lady, the mother of my children, and my soon to be wife. I fall in love with her more and more every day. Crazy Girl has the best heart of anyone I know.

My Ol' Lady took on me and my club without hesitation of us being criminals. Some might think it’s fucked that she would be like that, but fact is, she was abused, beaten, and left for dead by the man she laid up with before me. From the moment I picked Crazy Girl up from the side of the road so bloody, bruised and swollen she was unrecognizable, I became her safe place.

I became her protector, her hero, and before either of us knew, her soul mate. She felt our connection too. Even before she woke up, my touch would comfort her, my voice would soothe and calm her. Non-stop for four days, I sat in that room with her, singing and talking to her so from that first day of her waking up, she knew without a doubt we would keep her safe.

Crazy Girl never had any reservations about what or how we do shit in the club life. My woman trusted that if she needed to know, I would tell her, so she never had reason to question.

She gave me three beautiful kids and killed to save my fucking life. Not every woman can handle being with an outlaw, so the ones that can need to be held onto, they need to be respected, and they are what we call wife material. You lock 'em down, keep 'em happy and do everything in your power to give them everything they ever wanted. I can't fucking wait to make her mine in every way. Finally, she is ready to marry me now that her sister, City, is back.

All the guys, except Writer, started calling her that because she took a chance. People may have gotten hurt in the process of it all, but she fought for what she wanted, she followed her dreams. We respect shit like that from one of ours. Now that she is back, I hope, eventually, Writer can get past it and move on with her. They are perfect together, he just can't see it right now.

The shit my club and the girls have been through the last two and a half years should have left us dead more than once. The trials and tribulations, the sorrow and pain, the testing of loyalties, trust, and brotherhood left their mark but thank fuck most of us made it through.

Now the Sinners are at it again with someone trying to take us down, but we are strong. They can try all they goddamn want but it will take a whole lot more than a fucking rat and we won't go down without a fight and guns blazing.

Crazy Girl looks up at me with her breathtaking smile and I give one in return. I walk the rest of the way into the room and lean down, kissing her forehead. “Mornin' Babe.”

“Good morning. Did he wake you?”

“No, I was reaching for you and the bed was empty. Ava and Harper still asleep?”

“Yeah.” She uses her quiet voice so she doesn't wake our son.

“Why don't you put him back in the crib? We need to talk.” I lean down, kissing my baby boy on the top of his head, and walk out of his room. I go into the kitchen, start a pot of coffee, then pull eggs and bacon out of the refrigerator. I get the pans ready and on the stove when I feel hands wrap around me.

“Baby, I can do that. Why don't you go sit down and relax?” I feel her soft lips on my back before I spin around.

“It's okay, I got it.”

The sound of little pitter patters comes into the kitchen and four little arms hook around my legs. Looking down, I have Ava on my left and Harper on my right.

“Daddy!” they both say as they pull on the bottom of my shorts.

“Hey princesses. Did you sleep good?” I ask as I turn away from the stove, bend down, and pick each girl up into my arms.

“Yes, Daddy.”

“No,” Harper answers with her bottom lip stuck out.

“Why not, baby?” I mimic her lip pout.

“Betuz,” Harper points to Ava. “She wo me up.”

“Ava woke you up?” Harper nods. Ava smiles. “Ava, why did you wake her up?”

“Betuz Ina pway.”

“You wanna play? Don't you think it's too early for that?”

“No.” Ava says so seriously and folding her arms over her chest. I look to Crazy Girl, who has her head turned so the girls can't see her laugh.

“How about some breakfast and then you can play?”

“Ea ea cewel?”

“How about eggs and bacon?” Both girls smile and nod their heads. All is forgotten as I put them in their high chairs.

After breakfast is made, we all eat, and the girls run off to play. I pull Crazy Girl into my lap. “I gotta go to the club Babe, but you have to stay away from there. Keep the kids away. Bear is telling Jacey the same shit right now.”

“Why, what's going on, Hanger?” Her expression turns to worry.

“The cops are coming to search the clubhouse today and I need you safe in case anything goes down. We should be fine though, the guys have cleaned it out.”

“Why would they come and search? What are they looking for?”

“The cops have been receiving calls anonymously. They'll be looking for anything they can arrest us for. There's money in the safe in the bedroom if they decide to arrest any of us on some bullshit charges. I'll call you when it's done, and if any of us do get arrested, you get that money and bail us out. Yeah?”

“Okay, Baby. Call me as soon as it's over.”

I grip her face in my hands and look into her worried eyes. “I love you, Zoey.”

“I love you too, Hanger.” She leans into me, I place my lips against hers for a soft, chaste kiss. I let her go and head into the bedroom to get ready for today.

I bust into the clubhouse, seeing all of my brothers sitting around. “Church now!” I yell out, then point to Writer. “One of you let him know.” I don't stop as I head back to the chapel room. I wait until all my brothers take their place at the table, with me at the head of it. The only open spot is Gunner's seat and it won't be filled for another five months when he gets released.
“Are we ready? Is everything gone?”

“Yeah, brother we got the rest out this morning,” Bear answers with confidence.

“Good. Do we have any idea who it could be?”

“Not yet, brother. I'm still looking to see if any new clubs are trying to form. Have we pissed anyone off lately?”
Hacker
chimes
in,
with
nothing

.

“When do we not have people pissed at us? How is your club coming along?”

The construction is underway, so it shouldn't be too much longer. I will start interviewing girls in a couple of weeks. I paid extra to get it going sooner.”

“Alright, sounds good. Demon, where we at on numbers?”

“Well, it's looking good. We got twenty-five percent in the tattoo shop. I ran the rest through the garage since we already own that, but it can't stay there for long. What about the recording studio?”

“I can always ask Lil Mama. I'm sure she'd be willing to help the club out.”

“Yeah, I think I'll let you handle your spitfire of a wife. Alright guys, one more thing we need to talk about. Writer, this is about you brother. We all love you, but you got a problem. Normally, we don't micromanage and you all know that, but several of us have tried to talk to you one on one. It's hasn't helped, so now, I'm taking action and bringing it to the table. This drug shit has gotten out of control and it has to stop. This club is elbow deep in shit that we don't even fuckin' know about. The fuckin' pigs are coming to raid us and you're high as a fuckin' kite, Writer. That is a problem, brother. We don't have time for one of us to be weak and right now you are weak. If you don't pull your shit together and soon, you are gonna have to start sitting out.”
I narrow my eyes, cross my arms over my chest, and wait for the challenge.

Hanger, come on. I'm fine.

My fist comes down fast and hard on the table.
“You’re not fuckin' fine, goddamn it! We have all sat back and watched you go downhill. No more! You get your shit together now or you're out of this club.”

You can't do that!

“I can and I fuckin' will! Look around this room at all of your brothers, Writer. I don't think you will find anyone that doesn't agree with me at this point. I know we can't sit back and watch this shit anymore. You are hurting everyone around you. If you hurt this club because of it, I will kill you.”

I slam the gavel down,
“Church is over, get the fuck outta here and get ready brothers.”

★★★

Twenty minutes later, the club doors bust open.

“GET DOWN! EVERYONE ON THE GROUND NOW!”

The cops line us up on the cold concrete floor of the bar with guns to our backs and our hands on our heads. They search every square inch of the clubhouse, destroying everything in sight.

Glasses and bottles are broke, furniture is turned over and cushions ripped open. Posters, pictures, and various mug shots are ripped from the walls. They go from room to room, leaving their mark of destruction. After a couple of hours and all clears have been said, they let us stand up. We do just that, with smiles on our faces.

Lieutenant Brady comes up to me. “Where is it, Mr. Black?”
