“A house?” Beth stared at him.

“Sure,” he said. “We could get a dog.”

“Yeah?” she asked, a smile starting at the idea. “I’d like a dog. Can I have a studio to paint in too?”

“Sure. And a deck for barbeques,” Harry suggested, grinning.

“Can it be close to DU?” Ky asked, his usual diffident tone offset by his shy glance toward the other two. “I thought I might take some classes. Law enforcement or some shit like that.”

Harry hauled him in for a hard kiss on the temple. “Definitely,” he agreed.

“With a guest room,” Ky added, meeting his eyes. “In case my dad wants to visit.”

“At least three bedrooms. And a couple bathrooms so you two don’t have to fight over the shower.” Harry laughed. “Watch out—when we get a big house, everyone will be expecting us to host Christmas.”

Ky and Beth looked at each other and smiled.

“Sounds good,” Beth said.

“Yeah,” Ky agreed. “It does.”

Katie Allen grew up in the Midwest with a horde of sisters (five) and one beleaguered brother. After an enjoyable four years working on her creative writing/art degree, and two not-so-pleasant years struggling toward her MBA, Katie somehow ended up as a mechanical engineer in Denver, Colorado.
