On his latest adventure, Charley visited Pormpuraaw, a remote indigenous community where the RFDS provide a primary health care clinic. Charley also visited the RFDS Cairns Base, the largest RFDS base in Australia, where he witnessed first hand the lifesaving work of the Service when an aircraft landed with a seriously ill patient.

Across Australia, 50 aircraft fitted with lifesaving medical equipment and staffed by pilots, doctors and nurses are on standby twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year. With each aircraft costing around AU$7 million, the RFDS is constantly challenged to raise enough money to cover the costs of aircraft replacement.
