He brought in his bean bag chair that sat two people.
Kelly laughed. “That looks really comfortable.”
“Let me hold your glass and you get on it.”
She did and he handed her the glass back. “I should have taken my shoes off.”
“I’ll do that.”
Then he joined her on the chair. It was squishy enough to be comfortable, but not too much that they ran into each other. Unless they wanted to.
“This seems almost too whimsical for you,” Kelly said.
“I like a little whimsy. Not much. Colin has tried to loosen me up.”
Kelly touched her glass to his, then sipped. “To your whimsy.”
Larry laughed and he thought that Kelly had relaxed. He didn’t want to just jump on her, but he really wanted to get her naked. Kelly was one of the most beautiful women he’d ever seen.
“Is Tamra shaken up about the stalker?”
“She was quiet at dinner. I think she is. She probably feels she let Colin down.”
“I doubt Colin feels that way. I’ve never seen him look at a woman the way he looks at Tamra.”
“She’s a handful and if she gets it into her head that she put him in danger, she may bring someone else in,” Kelly said.
Larry took her hand and intertwined their fingers. “What’s your read on the situation?”
“That there was no harm and as long as Colin stays out of the public eye for a while, he’ll be fine.”
“I think he’ll behave because of Tamra. He hasn’t always been the most responsible client I’ve had,” Larry said.
Kelly put her glass on the floor then shifted to face him. “Let’s not talk about work.”
***
Tamra still could not believe that someone had gotten that close to Colin. He held her close and she never wanted to leave his arms. On the other hand, maybe she was too close. She was beginning to have feelings for him and that would cloud her judgment.
She nudged at him and he released her. He held onto her hand. “I’m thinking maybe I can’t do this job. I think that I need to bring someone else in.”
“No. You have more reason to protect me than some stranger.”
“I know a lot of professionals, Colin. You’d be well protected. We have a large staff of freelancers.”
“Freelancers? You’re going to give the job to someone who does it part time?”
“I never thought of them that way, Colin. They are good at what they do. Better than I am.”
How had she let him down? She had this vision of something bad happening to him and she’d never be able to keep her professional demeanor.
“I want you, Tamra.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes. I’ve never been surer of anything. Look. Let’s sleep on it and then talk about it with Kelly before you do anything rash. No one’s getting to me tonight.”
She frowned. He made it all sound so easy. But he always made it sound easy. What she would give to look at life that simply, but because of her job she saw a threat everywhere. She wished she could turn that part of her brain off for one night.
Just one night.
She couldn’t. Her job was such a part of her. Her instincts were honed from growing up in the projects. She was unable to turn it off. They were a part of her, but clearly not as good as she thought.
Colin stood and took her hand. “Come, Tamra. Let’s go to bed.”
She longed to curl up in his arms and he was going to let her.
What would she do when this was all over?
Kelly leaned in and kissed Larry. This wasn’t their first kiss, just the first one that she knew was going to lead elsewhere.
To his bedroom. She bet he had condoms. She bet he had a selection of them. At the moment, that didn’t bother her. He was probably an expert lover.
She’d take an expert lover any day
,
r
ight now would be fine.
“You sure?”
His eyes were dark with passion.
“Yes, I’m sure, Larry.”
He leaned back in to kiss her. “Good.”
He jammed his hand into her hair, massaging her scalp as he did. Her whole body began to tingle and she wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else. She tugged Larry’s shirt out of his pants and ran her hands up his chest.
More muscles than she thought. She felt hard planes and just a smattering of hair. She scraped her nails lightly over his nipples and he jerked.
He nipped down her neck, tugging her shirt out of the way. She pushed his shirt up and off his body as he paused his kissing. Then she captured his lips again. They almost hurt from the contact, but she couldn’t break it for long.
His breathing ratcheted up. She wanted to be skin to skin to him. Feel his warmth and hardness. She didn’t want soft. She wanted to be thoroughly made love to and she suspected Larry knew how to do that.
She couldn’t stop touching him. His skin was soft for a guy, but underneath, his muscles bunched. He groaned into her ear. She kissed him harder as if she could get inside of him instead of the other way around.
He ground his hips into her and she spread her legs so he could rest there. Her hands traveled south to undo his belt and pants. She reached in to find him rock hard. With one hand on his arm and one on his
cock
, she stroked him.
“Oh God, Kelly.”
She smiled, liking that this man was hard for her. Not anyone else. There was power in that.
He undid her blouse then her bra, raking his hand over her nipples. She arched into him, not letting go. His mouth covered her nipple and she thought she would explode.
“Hurry,” she said.
She wanted him inside of her. Now. He rolled away from her and tugged off his pants. He fished in the pocket and came up with a packet that he held up for her.
She smiled. Of course he was prepared. He undid her pants and slid them down her legs, kissing her skin as he revealed it. Then he kissed his way back up, avoiding the part she wanted his lips on the most.
Then he was there, her legs splayed out to give him better access.
“I could stay here forever,” he said.
H
is tongue did magical things to her. She dug her hands into the bean bag and arched up to him. The waves built and she wriggled for release. His hands gripped her, holding her in place as his tongue tangoed across her clit.
Then she was sailing over the edge, a moan escaping from her lips. She heard a deep chuckle from him. When she could open her eyes, he was still in between her legs, but he had a grin on his face.
“You’re proud of yourself.”
“I love doing that.” Then the grin fell off of his face. “Almost as much as I enjoy doing this.”
He’d put the condom on while she was in the throes of her orgasm. Now he slid his body up her and positioned himself before thrusting into her. He filled her and she wrapped her legs around him. She had a feeling she’d be holding on for dear life.
She wasn’t wrong. He started out slowly then build the speed as her orgasm built again. Coming to a crescendo, she gripped his shoulders. Her body fought to move, but he was on top of her and he pistoned into her, a groan escaping.
***
Larry didn’t think he could move. He leaned on his elbow to take some of his weight off Kelly, though she didn’t seem in any hurry to move. He was reluctant to pull out of her, but he did have to deal with the condom.
He didn’t want to lose contact with or ruin the moment, but he did. When he returned, he had a blanket for them.
He put it over them then snuggled closer to her. She put her hand on his chest and her head on his shoulder. “Wow.”
“Wow?”
She laughed. “Yes, wow. I don’t think I can move.”
He intertwined his fingers with hers. “Good. We can stay here as long as you like.”
He smiled having never been so content in his life. Was this bachelor slowing down? Meeting his match? No, he just had been laid well. That was it. He liked how responsive Kelly was.
She snuggled closer to him and he tucked the blanket around them. Like a cocoon.
“That was interesting on the bean bag chair. Just enough firmness and give at the same time,” she said. “I can see why you bought it.”
“I had no idea that sex would be this good on it.”
“Really?”
“Nope. I bought it because I like the way they feel when you sit in them.”
She laughed. “So you haven’t had sex on this before?”
“No, I haven’t. I promise.”
He played with her hair, his eyes closed, just enjoying the closeness. He didn’t often bring women back here, because he wanted the option to leave. Tonight he didn’t want to be anywhere else.
“Then I’m honored.”
“Eventually we need to move to the bed. As romantic as it would be to sleep here, I like my bed.”
“In a minute.”
He hugged her closer. She could take as long as she liked. What magic had brought her into his life? What magic had made him ready to receive this miracle?
An avowed bachelor, Larry had given up on marriage. He never expected to fall in love. Maybe he’d just been dating the wrong women.
Kelly was intelligent and beautiful and strong. She owned her own business so he didn’t have to support her. She had class and culture. Probably more than he did, despite his living in Manhattan.
Where had she been all of his life?
She shifted. “We better move or I’m going to fall asleep.”
“You ready?”
“I am.”
“Wrap the blanket around you and follow me.”

Colin let her curl up beside him, trying to comfort her. Sometime in the night, she stopped wanting comfort and wanted him.
He woke to her on top of him
,
naked and kissing his neck.
“Oh, honey.”
“You
’
re hard to wake up.”
“But I am now.”
He was ready to go. Guess she’d been working hard to wake him up and now he was hard. She slid herself onto him without any preamble. She slowly slid up his shaft then down again.
Then quicker, each time so that his body was on fire with his need for release. Then she’d stop. Sweet torture. When she started again, her hands braced on his chest, she went quickly. She must have needed this badly.
Her orgasm shook him and he went over the edge wishing it could have lasted longer.
She collapsed onto his chest, her breath coming out in pants. He rubbed her back. “You okay?”
“Better now.”
He hugged her to him. He almost told her he loved her. Too soon. And she was too fragile right now. He had to convince her that everything was okay.
“I’m glad you woke me up. You can wake me up anytime for sex.”
“That’s what I figured.”
“Seriously. Are you feeling better?”
“I don’t know. I just keep thinking that what if the stalker had a weapon.”
“Don’t. Don’t think about it.”
He kissed the top of her head. She shifted off of him, but didn’t lose contact.
“I still think I should bring someone else in.”
“If you do, I want them as a supplement to you.”
“What do you mean?”
“I still want you here in official capacity. As my bodyguard. No one else is going to give me such personal service.”
“So you want me to stay because we have sex?”
“That’s part of it, not all of it.”
Colin held his breath. He may have said the wrong thing. Then she began to laugh. “Should I charge extra for the sex part? I wonder if I hire more female bodyguards I can get a higher price if they sleep with the clients?”
He wasn’t sure if she was really finding this funny or not so he let her laugh. “I hope I didn’t offend you. I’m really enjoying our time together.”
“Oh, Colin. Stop digging.”
“I’m not digging. I’m trying to tell you something.”
“What?”
She sat up and even though he knew she couldn’t see him, he looked at her too. “I love you Tamra.”
*
Tamra’s breath caught in her throat. Had Colin Brennan just said that he loved her? Had those words come out of his mouth? She didn’t know what to say.
She hadn’t really been thinking about the emotion involved in their coupling. She’d assumed that this was a passing fling for him. She’d had no intention of committing her heart to him. The thought had never occurred to her that he would have feelings for her.
“I’m guessing from your stunned surprise that you don’t feel the same.”
“Uh, I don’t know.”
“Not sure that makes this situation any better.”
She shifted away from him. Her heart raced. The situation was awkward.
He put his hand on her back. “It’s okay if you don’t feel the same, Tamra. I’m a big boy and I’d rather you know how I feel than keep it to myself.”
“I just thought this was a fling.”
“Yeah, not making me feel better.”
She put a hand over her mouth so that she wouldn’t say anymore until she was clear about what she wanted to articulate. “Colin, I assumed that for you this was a fling so I never really thought about investing my heart.”
“Can I turn the light on?”
“Go ahead.”
He did then shifted the pillows so he was leaning against the headboard. “That’s a fair statement, I guess. You don’t know me, and if you’ve read anything about me, I don’t have the reputation for sticking around.”
“It’s not that simple.”
“Then explain it.”
He didn’t seem mad, so she shifted and wrapped some of the sheet around herself. She was feeling vulnerable, having this conversation while naked. “You’re Colin Brennan.”
“So. I thought you didn’t know who I was before this job?”
“I didn’t, but I’ve seen things now. I read things. You’re a hot shot rock star.”
He shrugged. “It’s what I do. That’s how I make my money, but that’s not necessarily who I am. Even if I am, I’m still flesh and blood and capable of feelings.”
That’s it. She hadn’t thought him capable of feelings. At least not for her.
“You’ve dated supermodels.”
“So. They’re people too.”
“But, you’ve dated all of these hot, famous people.”
“So? What does that have to do with us?”
“What the hell do you see in me?”
He sighed and put a hand on her face. She didn’t want him to be so understanding. She could deal with this better if he was mad. Clearly, he wasn’t.
“Do you think that you don’t deserve this because you aren’t famous?”
“It’s not that I’m not deserving, but I’m not your usual type.”
“So that’s it. You don’t think you’re hot enough?”
He laughed. That didn’t make her feel any better. “What’s so funny?”
“You have no idea how beautiful you are.”
“Now you’re just teasing.”
“Seriously, Tamra. You are one of the most beautiful women I know. You don’t wear makeup and you don’t have to. That’s real beauty. Anyone could look glamorous with stuff on her face. You do it without any of those crutches.”
He thought she was beautiful. She’d never needed to be pretty. She hadn’t really cared about her looks. It was her brains and her instincts that were going to get her far in life. And those traits had. Her looks had never factored into anything she did.
He rubbed a hand over her forehead. “You’re overthinking this, Tamra. No one chooses who they fall in love with. It just happens. There’s no reason I can’t fall in love with someone who isn’t famous.”
***
Colin wasn’t sure what Tamra was thinking, but he knew he had to convince her that he loved her.
“But what if what you’re feeling is just being grateful for me protecting you?”
“It’s not like you took a bullet for me, Tamra.”
Oh shit. Was that the wrong thing to say? Her face showed no expression. He held his breath.
“I know that. I’m just thinking that you feel you’re in danger and I stand between you and that danger.”
He shook his head. “It’s simple, Tamra. I’m in love with you. You’re the first thin
