Chapter 5

I stood in front of my body-length mirror in my room, my last phone conversation with Elevator man running through my head over and over again. After a nerve wracking day of waiting for his call, my personal cell phone finally range. There was everything from frustratingly simple small talk to full blown flirting until, finally, he invited me out to have a drink with him and a “colleague” after dinner that night. We both knew the “colleague” didn’t exist and that it was just an attempt to disguise pleasure as business. That being said, I still wasn’t quite sure what I should have been wearing, and, after many outfits discarded, I settled on a black and gold, dressy jump suit. I pulled my long, wavy hair back into a high ponytail, hoping the look would make me seem incredibly intimidating. Just as I was rummaging through the chest of purses in my closet, I heard a knock on the door.

I sighed to myself. “Come in.” I called.

Much to my dismay, it was Mother. She waltzed right in and positioned herself onto my bed. “Your father and I talked about it and we don’t think it’s a good idea for you to go tonight.”

My stomach flipped. My clutch slipped from between my fingers, landing with a deep thump back into the bin. “What are you talking about?” I asked, straightening up. “You already said I could go.” I forced myself to keep my voice down. I had no leverage in this situation and I was more than aware of that.

Mother nodded putting her hair behind her ear. She had stripped herself down for the night, wearing nothing but an oversized, satin night shirt and a face completely devoid of makeup. She almost looked vulnerable like this. Almost. “We know about Charles.” She asserted.

I furrowed my brow in mock confusion. “Charles?” I had to lie. Lying was the only way I could ever get a normal night out.

But Mother could see right through this. “You know exactly who I am talking about: the young man who works in accounting that you ran into on the elevator. The two of you arranged to meet tonight at Elle.”

I sighed, slamming myself onto the bed. The jig was up. “What is so wrong with that anyway?” I demanded.

Mother glowered at me. “Are you seriously asking me what is so wrong with a woman of your age going out to meet a man at this hour?”

I felt like I lived in some orphanage-prison hybrid. “I’m nineteen years old and it’s only nine right now!” I cried.

“Do not!” Mother screamed right over me, standing up so that she was towering over me. “Don’t you dare take that tone with me.”

“Why not?” I demanded, standing up to face her. “Why can’t I take this tone with you? Why can’t I go out when I want to? Why do you monitor my every move? Why can’t I just be a normal human woman for once in my life?”

“Because you are not a human woman!” Mother screamed at me.

I was so stunned, I clamped my jaw shut.

“You are not normal. You are not like everybody else and you will never be treated as such, not by me and not by anyone else out there. You have got to get that in your head.”

I shook my head. “You are just trying to keep me here. You’re afraid I’ll damage myself and you don’t trust me.” I challenged.

“Of course I’m afraid you’ll damage yourself. A relationship with a human male will damage you.” She argued.

I narrowed my eyes. My skin burned with frustration at the words that had just tumbled out of her mouth. I felt like she had reached into my chest and wrapped her bony hands around my hard, crushing it with her bare hands simply because she could; only to spite me. “How?” I demanded. “How could that possibly happen? Why can’t I love who I want?”

She shrugged. “Physically, emotionally. A man who is not prepared for you will not accept you.”

“I don’t believe you.” I sneered.

She sat down at the chair in front of my dresser, fixing her hair in the mirror. “Then go.” She replied in a dismissive voice

The sound of it sent s a chill down my spine. Somehow, she made me wonder if she could actually know that kind of thing. Would refusing her really lead to my demise? Could I possibly find a man that would accept me? Sexual or otherwise?

Then go.

Those two words were the most manipulative of all. By saying them she knew that she was challenging me, testing me. I hardly had a choice. So, I picked up my clutch purse and walked out of the door.

Chapter 6

I found the bar easily enough. It was the only dark building Champ, and the trendy music that leaked out of it made it the obvious pick. I sucked in a deep breath of the night air, taking the smell of cars and of cigarettes just to calm my nerves and forget about what Mother told me, if only for a little while. With that accomplished, I pushed past the three men that stood in front of door way and stepped inside, blinking my eyes incessantly to adjust to the much dimmer lighting.

It didn’t take me too long to find Charles, who stood in the back of the bar, talking into the bartender’s ear. He looked sleek as usual in a dark blue, long sleeved cashmere shirt paired with black dress pants. He extended his right arm, which brandished a Rolex out in front of him in order to point out a top shelf vodka. It was only when he sent the bartender away to go fetch whatever complex drink that he must have ordered that he returned his attention to me.

Once he spotted me in the dense crowd of people, his heavy brown of concentration softened and as his lips stretched into warm smile.

I waved at him before hurrying through the crowd, knowing that I had made the right decision.

After three vodka martinis on a fairly empty stomach, the two of us found ourselves lying on his bed in the flat that he owned just three blocks away from the bar. I had gotten so comfortable as to take off my shoes and he took that as a positive sign.

He traced circles down my neck and shoulders, his fingers trailing all the way down my arms and leaving goosebumps in their wake. I found it wondrous that we could be lying so close to each other and remain restraining ourselves in this way.

He filled the room with his low chuckle. “I must say, Esme, you really do confuse me.” He murmured.

I raised an eyebrow, propping myself on one elbow so that I was facing him. “And how is that?” I asked.

“Well,” he started as he propped himself up on his elbow. “You seem so sure of yourself, so mature. But, at the same time. I can see the innocence in your eyes.” He ran his hands up my lg.

Although I found that statement more than a little condescending, I let him kiss me anyway. His lips caressed mine in a way that sent my entire body in heat. Every part of me from that very prevalent space between my legs to the hairs on my neck, was drawn to him. Even just as he pressed his lips against mind and his tongue into my mouth, I could feel him reaching deep down into me and it set me on fire.

We sucked each other in, his hands caressing my body and my body melting in his. I could feel my own wetness soaking through my pants, just as clearly as I could feel his hard bulge pressing into the space above my belly button when he mounted me. I sighed as he moved his lips to my jaw bone, down my neck, and even farther down to my collar bone. He pressed his body into mine until I could hardly breathe, yet the sensation was far from undesirable. As his lips found their way to his breasts and his hands undid my jumpsuit from the top, I could feel myself growing hot again, much too hot. The fire just under my skin was like the tension that built between my legs, but it did not make me want to stop. On the contrary, it drove me to keep going. I wanted him to press even deeper. I needed to feel him inside of me. Moans slipped from between my lips at the sensation of his cold hands all over my hot body, until I felt something not so desirable pressing through my throat.

My eyes went wide because the burn in my chest told me exactly what that was. I had heard horror stories of those who held in their fire and there was one big fire ball building up deep inside of me that if I ignored, could cost me my voice.

But I was with Charles.

I squeezed my eyes shut, hoping that it would go away on its own, that I was somehow mistaken, but that mere second of hesitation only made me feel ten times worse. I slammed my fists against his chests until he flew off of my, tumbling off of the bed. “What the-“ he muttered, floored by my impossibly strength, but I had no time for explanations. I leapt off of the bed and charged across his room towards the window. Once it was open, I split my lips and let the fire roll through my throat and out of my mouth.

As it flowed, I could hear Charles screaming behind me. I stayed pressed against his west wall with my head hanging out of his window because I was afraid to face him after this. I was embarrassed that he had seen this; that he had seen me.

And that was not a good look.

Chapter 7

Mother was right. It was all I could think as I prepared myself for the Mating. I doused myself in oils meant to ease the transition. Apparently when I finally changed, I would shed all of my skin and the oils were supposed to make loosen the tissues, or something like that. I sighed to myself, glancing around the empty room. There was no bed, only a buck-skin on the ground, surrounded by candles. Directly behind it was the large archway that connected the house to the garden beyond. I found it strange that although we were still in Paris, the sounds of the city could not be heard.

Just as I was beginning to get comfortable being completely by myself, I heard a knock on the door. “Come in!” I called, without looking.

Someone cleared their throat. I turned to find Heath and Caesar standing in front of me. A smile stretched across my face because they were every bit as beautiful in the flesh as they had been on screen. My heart leapt with excitement and goose bumps rose on my skin in mere anticipation of what was about to happen.

Just having these two men in this room with me and feeling the moonlight on my oiled skin made me feel hot. I was profoundly aroused, what with my hard nipples pressing against the sheet I had draped myself in. The men crossed the room to me, but just as Caesar opened his mouth to tell me something, I undid my sheet. It tumbled to the floor, landing in a white puddle around my feet, and rendering me naked. “We don’t need introductions. I know exactly who you are.” I asserted.

Heath wasted no time crossing the room towards me. He took my face in both of his hands and kissed me, his tongue stretching into my mouth. I felt a pang of pleasure between my legs just as Caesar approached me from behind, cupping my breasts with his hands, my hard nipples poking from in between his fingers. I reached behind me, easily finding his member, which poked through his flimsy shorts. Just holding the throbbing penis in my hand made me moan with pleasure. I could feel the heat building up just below my skin but I knew that this was a safe place to embrace it.

Heath slipped his fingers into me. I gasped with surprise, but moaned with pleasure as he tugged his finger in and out of me repeatedly. I could feel the tension building, even in the air around me. Caesar pinched my nipples, the titillating sensation driving me into a frenzy. Impulsively, I dropped to my knees, reveling in Heath’s penis, which bobbed against my face. I rubbed my tongue against it, treasuring his own moan of pleasure, before taking the whole thing into my mouth. He exhaled sharply, releasing a huff of breath, just as Caesar bent me over. Confused, I placed my palms onto the rug to steady myself, but then, when I felt him enter me, it all made sense.

He rammed himself into me over and over and over again until I was screaming with pleasure. As I could feel myself nearing a climax, the fire inside of me grew stronger and stronger and stronger, it burned at my skin and just behind my eyes. I hated it and never wanted it to end all at once.

There was just so much pressure, everywhere. I felt like my body was expanding to a hundred times its size and yet shrinking at the same time. Just when I thought I might explode in ecstasy, Heath stepped away from me, praying his seed all over my face. I reveled in it.

Caesar pulled out of me.

I stood up just as it happened. My full body orgasm consumed every part of me. My brain was filled with white noise as I became momentarily blind and death. Fire welled up in the pit of my throat, but I let it out, allowing it to dissipate in the walls that were made to contain it.

As my orgasm abated, my skin began to melt.

This was it. This was me.
