We had been lucky and found gas a couple times. We had made good time traveling. There was no sign to indicate the crossing over into another state, maybe there had been one at one time or another, but now there was nothing. I still knew almost the exact minute we had crossed from Indiana into Michigan. It was like I could see our little car traveling along on the atlas and I just knew we were there.
The sun was setting and it would be dark soon. I sighed and couldn’t help but smile. I knew I was going to do whatever it took to survive.
