I
could hear the pounding of my own heartbeat as the tree line got closer and
closer. I didn’t see a way out of this, at least not without someone getting
hurt. We entered the trees and walked the short distance to a clearing where
everyone stopped. “Don’t you think you are overreacting a little?” I asked
Andrew as he moved to stand in front of me.

He
watched me for a second like he was trying to decide what to say. “It has been
this way for years. It is the only way to keep the pack safe. We don’t know
what could happen if we allow these children to be born.”

“That’s
my point. You don’t know, so how can you assume it will be bad?” I asked
angrily. It seemed like they were making decisions out of fear, not because it
was actually a fact. No one had been allowed to give birth on the blue moon,
they all died. So no one ever knew what could really happen.

“Assuming
the worst keeps us safe. It maintains order,” he countered.

“It
makes you ignorant!” I snapped.

He
smacked me across the face. The force of his strike sent me to the ground. “You
know nothing! You are still a child and you wouldn’t understand because you are
selfish!”

I
glared up at him. “I would never kill anyone because I was afraid of my own
shadow.”

He
growled low in his throat and started kicking me. I was beginning to think he
decided against his promise of a less painful death. I rolled away from him and
regained my footing. I lunged at him and he looked startled when I hit him in
the chest. We went to the ground and I started punching him in the face. I felt
his nose crunch and blood spray everywhere, but I didn’t care. Someone grabbed
me from behind and threw me against a tree. I landed with a thud at the base of
the tree. I groaned and tried to regain my footing, but someone placed their
foot in my back and grabbed me by my hair yanking my head back at an angle.
Terror shot through me when I realized whoever it was, was going to break my
neck. He jerked my head and everything went black.

I
woke up and it was dark. The fear that I was dead coursed through me. I rolled
panicked and fell off the bed and landed on the floor with a loud thud. I
groaned and sat up as the door opened. The light was turned on and Micah was
standing in the doorway. I looked around and realized I was in his house; in
the bedroom he let me stay in.

“Either
I didn’t die or I am in a really fucked up after life,” I muttered as I climbed
to my feet.

Micah
smiled. “You will be relieved to learn that you are not dead,” he said amused
as he shut the door.

“I
thought that guy broke my neck,” I said quietly as I sat down on the bed and
rubbed my neck.

He
sat in a chair not far from me and watched me. “I have allies throughout the
pack. Dennis knocked you out and made it look like he killed you so Andrew
would leave you alone. Then Dennis brought you to me.”

“Where’s
your friend? Why am I still alive here? I thought you killed wolves like me,” I
said angrily. I had to leave his house quickly when Scarlett attacked. I never
got an explanation from him.

He
sighed like I was annoying him. “Haven’t I proven that I don’t want you dead? I
want to see these children born.”

“Why
so you can rule everyone?” I asked angrily as I stood. I grabbed a silk robe
that wasn’t far from me and put it on. I didn’t feel like being naked in front
of him anymore. It didn’t seem like we could talk seriously if I was standing
there naked.

He
appeared in front of me and I hesitated. He was so close to me our bodies were
almost touching. He placed his hands on my belly and I felt a surge of energy
rush through me. The babies began to squirm under his touch making me gasp. “At
this point, the why doesn’t
matter.
Just know I want
these children born and nothing will stop me; I can promise you that. Run back
to your pack and you will eventually die. You and these children are safe with
me despite my past sins. Yes, I killed the last female that was to give birth
on the blue moon, but it was out of ignorance. I will not make the same mistake
twice,” he growled then disappeared.

I
took a shaky breath and sat down on the bed. I rested my hand on my belly. I
felt an odd energy when he was touching me. I wasn’t sure what it was. I pushed
the thought away and walked to the bathroom. I needed a shower to clear my
head.

After
my shower I felt a little better. I still had no clue what to do. I didn’t know
who to believe. Danny, one of my first friends here betrayed me. His betrayal
blindsided me and I wasn’t sure who I could trust. I sat brushing my hair when
the door burst open startling me. I jumped to my feet, but relaxed a little
when I saw it was Dominic. He didn’t speak. He just rushed over to me and
hugged me. He pressed his lips to mine taking me by surprise. “I thought you
were dead,” he whispered as he pressed his forehead to mine.

I
scoffed. “It was your pack that tried to kill me,” I said defensively. I wasn’t
really even sure who I could trust anymore. I didn’t think Micah would let
Dominic in if he thought Dominic was a threat. The again I wasn’t sure if I could
trust Micah.

Dominic’s
eyes widened. “I had no idea what Andrew was going to do. He acted alone. He
did not have permission from the council. I would never let anyone hurt you.”
He sounded hurt and I immediately regretted being mean to him.

I
sighed. “I’m fine. I wouldn’t have been if it wasn’t for Micah. His connections
within the pack saved my ass.”

Dominic’s
expression darkened. “Micah was involved in the death of the last female. You
aren’t safe here. If I had known this I would have never let you come here.”

I
looked at him a little confused. “I am not safe in your pack either. They were
going to kill me. Did you not hear the part where Micah saved me?”

He
scowled and crossed his arms in defiance. I knew he wasn’t going to just let this
go. “Dennis, who happens to be one of my pack members saved you. It was not
necessarily under Micah’s order.”

“I
beg to differ,” Micah countered coming into the room. “It is obvious she is
safer here with me.”

Dominic
scoffed. “I doubt that. She may be safe for now, but when those babies are born
what is to keep you from killing her and taking them? That was the initial plan
wasn’t it, or has that changed since your last chat with Elijah?”

Micah
stiffened as he watched Dominic. He didn’t speak like he was trying to decide
what to say.

“Who
is Elijah? Is he telling the truth?” I glared at Micah unable to hide my anger.
I didn’t know who to trust and it was driving me insane.

Micah
raised his hands defensively. “I told you my initial plans have altered. You
are no longer in any danger from me. I give you my word.”

I
watched Micah unable to speak. I didn’t know what to say to him. I didn’t
really know what to say to any of them. Dominic touched my arm and I pulled
away and glared at him as well. “Don’t touch me, both of you leave me alone. I
honestly don’t know who to trust anymore.”

Dominic
looked at me confused. “I am the father of one of them don’t you think I want
to see them born?”

“You
have always been about the safety of your pack. Right now I am not the safest
option so I don’t understand why you would protect me. Honestly you have more
of a chance betraying me and killing me then Micah does. At least I will
survive the birth with him,” I countered.

No
one spoke immediately. Brayden came into the room catching everyone’s
attention. I groaned in annoyance and sat down on the bed. He was another piece
of the puzzle. I wasn’t sure what his motive was or if I could trust him
anymore than I could trust the others.

“What
did I walk in on?” Brayden asked cautiously.

“Kylie
is being difficult like normal,” Dominic growled as he ran his fingers through
his hair.

Brayden
smiled. “Did Andrew put a scoff on your perfect pack’s record? I am sure Andrew
trying to off her reflects a little poorly on the pack leader.”

“I
swear I am not in the mood for you,” Dominic growled as he stepped towards
Brayden threateningly.

“Both
of you stop. There is no time for fighting. Kylie needs to decide where she
goes and who she trusts. Obviously she has many doubts about us,” Micah said
softly.

“Well
I am the only one who hasn’t betrayed her. I am not exactly excited about being
a father, but I wouldn’t kill her or send my council after her,” Brayden said
amused.

“I
didn’t send my council after her!” Dominic yelled then shoved Brayden.

“Stop
both of you!” I yelled angrily. “Brayden, Lucy was in on the plan to kill the
babies so you are in no better standing then Dominic or Micah. I want all of
you to get out. I will come to you when I decide what I want to do.”

“Lucy
has been properly reprimanded. I noticed Andrew is still on the council.”
Brayden looked directly at Dominic as he spoke like he was trying to irritate
Dominic.

I
looked at Dominic confused. “How is he still on the council?” I asked
horrified.

“I
can’t dismiss a council member,” Dominic said defensively.

“No,
but you can kill him. I would have,” Brayden countered.

“Not
everything has to be done with brute force. Andrew is not alone in his fear and
it will only cause problems if I go around killing council members,” Dominic
snapped.

Brayden
smiled. “You see that is where you and I are very different. My pack swears to
serve me, if they betray that they know the punishment is death. There is no
diplomatic bullshit. Diplomatic bullshit gets people killed.”

“My
pack members don’t have to fear death just because they have a difference of
opinion.” Dominic was getting angrier as he spoke. His hands were balled into
fists and I knew he was barely holding onto his temper.

Brayden
was trying to piss Dominic off; that was clear. “A difference of opinion and
trying to murder my child are too very different situations. Fear or not, Lucy
knew what she was doing.”

“You
killed Lucy?” I asked startled as I looked at Brayden.

He
looked at me. “Of course, it is the rules.”

I
was a little shocked. I didn’t say anything. I never thought Brayden would kill
Lucy over this. I could see his point, but it was still a little brutal. I
looked away from him. “I want you all to leave. Give me time. I will stay here
for now,” I said quietly.

Dominic
looked like he wanted to argue, but Micah shook his head. Dominic scowled and
stalked out. Brayden followed him. Micah hesitated as he closed the door. “Do
what is best for you Kylie,” he said softly then shut the door.

I
groaned and closed my eyes as I flopped down on the bed. I really had no clue
what to do. At this point I didn’t know what was best for me.
