Scars

By: Elena M. Reyes

Summary:

Abandoned.

Thrown away.

Invisible.

Every single one of those could be used to describe me. They can tell you my story—my sad past—without a single syllable passing through my lips.

I hate them—those who lied to me. They claimed to love me, but in reality, they used me when convenient. My parents. Sister. And now Talan. Loving them has left me empty. Sad. Alone.

Not anymore. Screw them. My love has turned to anger…hate. Now, what consumes me is the urge to destroy, to force them to see what they’ve wrecked with their carelessness. My name will never be forgotten. Not after I have my revenge.

His tears will be my ultimate retribution.

This book is dedicated to all of my readers. Those that fell in love with Talan, Maya, and the crazy bunch of friends that make the Marked Series such a pleasure to write. For those that hate Janice with every fiber of their being, but are still intrigued by her brand of crazy.

Thank you for all the love.

To my pre-readers and editor:

Marti, Arianna, and Tammy…you girls rock my world. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy schedules to help me. It means the world to me, and I love reading all your notes. How excited you get with certain scenes that make me blush—how you make me smile with your excitement.

To my Hussy’s:

No amount of words I could write would suffice in explaining how much each one of you means to me. Thank you for all you do. I love you.

To my girls:

You know who you are and how there would be no Elena without you in my life. Love you!

“You have three minutes to pull your nasty ass up and get out that door. Three, Janice, or I call the cops. Your call.” Talan laughed and pulled Maya in closer. He didn’t give a shit that I was bleeding on the floor and looking up at their blatant display of affection.

Deep down, I knew this was all an act on his behalf. He wanted me, not her.

Why continue this lie?

When I decided to come over to his house tonight, things played out differently in my head. He was supposed to pull me into his arms and make me feel what I needed to survive. Affection. This wasn’t an empty infatuation on my behalf. I needed him. More than she ever would.

I’d followed Maya down to the Seaquarium last night. There was something big going on. The parking lot was full, and it wasn’t with tourists. Everyone wore their uniforms, looking excited as they chatted on their way in.

Talan should’ve been alone. This had been my one and only shot to make him hear me out without her interference. Her bullshit lies.

If only I’d come right then.

Instead, I answered Mother’s phone call. Spent hours listening to her prattle on about how I needed to let the good Lord in, how he would help me release the demons that she and Daddy dearest created. The ones they denied having anything to do with.

It was my fault. Every goddamned thing wrong in our family’s life, my repentance would solve. Fuck the fact that my life was crumbling around me. It was too late for her to give a shit. Just another instance where her fucking existence ruined me.

Maya turned around in his arms and pulled his face down toward hers. “I want her gone and you naked in our bed upstairs.”

My stomach rolled at the sight. He was letting her touch him—enjoyed the jealousy that coursed through my veins. Neither watched as my hands clenched into tight fists and my fingers dug into the skin there. How the blood that ran down my lips boiled with hatred. Still, I loved him.

He ground his hip against her, and she moaned. The outline of his hardened cock could not be hidden, nor could the shiver than ran through me be stopped.  It should be my body he used—took his pleasure from.

I’ve felt that glorious dick inside me. Was made to feel alive by every ridge—its every pulse.

“Are you going to punish me?” He smirked down at her, eyes heavy with lust. For the first time, a small ripple of hatred flowed through me at the sound of his voice.

Why was he doing this to me?

“No.” Maya reached up and nipped his chin. “Just going to teach you a lesson in ownership.”

She walked away then. Never looked back toward the woman she assaulted and left on the ground. I was made to feel unworthy. There was no concern in her for me, just a cocky sway to her hips as she marched toward his room.

“You heard her.” Talan stood across from me now, door wide open and his arrogant smirk firmly in place. “Get the fuck out, Janice. There’s nothing left for you here. Just go.”

When the fuck did he move?

“Baby, please. Don't do this,” I begged him one last time as I stood and wiped my lip. Couldn’t he see what his carelessness was doing to me? How he killed me with each word that left his lips? “I don't deserve this. Not again.”

His head tilted to the side, an inquisitive expression on his face. “Again? What the fuck do you mean, again?”

Ignoring his question, I walked closer. This was not the time to delve into a part of me—a part I couldn’t get a hold on. My hand reached out to grab him, yet he pulled back. Talan’s handsome face was full of the disgust he felt at my mere presence

“All I need is for you to love me. See me again.” The room began to feel small, the walls and the truth I’ve ignored closing in on me. My fantasy of happiness began to crumble like a stack of cards blown by the wind. Fuck. My chest hurt. “Please.”

It left me as a strangled whisper. My final plea. Talan had to realize that only he held the key to my sanity.

He shook his head and sighed. “No. No more. I never gave you hope, nor did I promise you a possibility for more. You did this to yourself.”

He made his choice.

There was nothing else to say.

“Okay.”

“Okay? Really? Just like that. After all this…” he waved his hand around the room “…bullshit!”

How fucking dare he treat me like this? Like a nuisance. “You know what, Talan? Fuck you and your little whore.”

This time, it was
he
who took a step closer. “Watch your goddamned mouth,” he spat with venom. Fear crept in, building within my gut, but I stood firm. He wasn’t going to intimidate me.

“Or what?” I taunted, pulling on the tail of the lion I wanted to dominate.

His muscles coiled, fists flexed, and his jaw ticked. “This.”

Before I could defend myself, he grabbed my arm and all but dragged me out the door. Like I weighed nothing, his force and control left me speechless. And aroused.

“I ever catch you around here again…” Talan trailed off as he deposited me at the very end of his driveway. In front of my car, he pushed me off him. I stumbled, my hands reaching back and holding on to the edge of my hood.

The malice and venom in his words stung, made me cower back from him.

“I’ll never let you be happy with her. Never.” It was my goddamned vow.

He raised an amused brow and chuckled. “You touch her, and you better run. Hide. Because for every bit of hurt you inflict, I’ll make you cry tears of blood. Now get the fuck off my property. You have thirty seconds to get your sorry ass out of here.”

Nodding, I opened my car door and placed a foot inside. “Understood, but I think you have it wrong, Talan. If anyone cries tears of blood, it will be you.”

Before he could reply, I was inside and revving the engine to back out.  Let him stew over that shit. In my eyes, she was as good as dead. It would only be a matter of time before my thoughts and reality became one.

“Motherfucker,” I screeched at the top of my lungs once I’d pulled away from his house. My hands shook as I clutched the steering wheel, the scene from a few minutes ago replaying in my head on a constant loop.

He kicked me out.

Me. For her. A bitch he barely knew.

The red light a few blocks down from Talan’s home gave me a second to take a deep breath in. It didn’t help; I slammed my right hand down against the dashboard instead. The sting of my palm connecting with the vinyl only heightened the rage that coursed through me.

I wanted her gone. Never to come back again.

“Fuck!” What the hell did she have that I didn’t? Wasn’t one pussy just as good as the next?

She isn’t fucked up in the head. Doesn’t need meds to function.

That wasn’t my fault.

But it’s still your truth.

Going home was out of the question. Not when the ire within me demanded I make him suffer—feel every bit of the pain I had.  Not when there was sure to be a few messages telling me to call them back and that I needed help.

At this point, I was beyond help. Too fucked up to care. My humanity had been taken away the moment I was abandoned by those that gave me life. When I lost my…fuck!

There was nothing my therapist could do to stop my inevitable demise. I was lucid enough to realize this, but nothing would deter me. No one could reach me now.

Especially not my parents who, thanks to religion, had found themselves again.  Their newfound faith cracked me up. It took a complete stranger to make them see what they had abandoned. How they left me—the one daughter that survived—alone when she needed them the most.

They lost one daughter.

I lost it all:

A twin sister, my mother and father… friends. My youth. Everything vanished. I vanished before their eyes, and they didn’t care. Their mourning and helplessness was all that they focused on. Fighting, blaming, and cursing me silently for reminding them daily of all that was lost.

They had no right to act as if I mattered to them now. Physically living, but dead inside.

My phone rang beside me as I drove down toward the South Beach area. They wouldn’t stop. Between my therapist and parents, I would surely end up in the crazy house. Well, if they had their way.

If there was one thing I loved about this city, it was that it never slept. As the late night hours rolled in, so did the freaks. The sexually needy. Tonight, I wanted to play. Get lost in a sea of bodies and forget.

The Welcome to South Beach sign stood bright as I passed it by. Half-naked bodies walked down the street. High heels, short dresses…pussy ready to be fucked. I was one of those, and I knew just who to call.

Pulling out my phone, I opened up the message screen and sent off a quick text to an old buddy. Tonight, I needed a good fuck. To get out of my head and feel wanted again.

The short dress I had in the back seat of my car ensured just that.

“It’s been a while,” I crooned into the phone. He called immediately, just like I knew he would.

“It has been.” Voice low and rough. Nothing like Talan’s, but fuck did it feel good to hear the desire he had for me in his tone. “You coming to see me?”

Jaime was gorgeous. He was tall, well over six feet, with jet black hair and blue eyes. Cuban descent and motherfucking fire in bed. Our explosions were incredible, but nothing more than that.

It was what it was…a means to an end.  A release.

“You have time to take care of an old friend?”

“I’m at the lounge tonight. Just head down to Crave on 23
rd
and tell one of the bouncers to call me when you arrive. My girl doesn’t wait in line.”

“Your girl?” I giggled, happy to hear those words, even if they’d come from the wrong man.

“It’ll be my cock you ride tonight, so yeah…mine for the night.”
For the night
. Those words stung and deflated the joy I’d felt a minute ago. Would I ever be enough to warrant more from a man? Sure, Jaime didn’t count, but it hurt just the same. “Did I lose you, Jan?”

“No,” I sighed and put on my signal to turn. “I’m here and about three blocks away.”

“That was fast.” Jaime chuckled, and then paused. In the background, I could hear the tinkling of ice in a glass. Felt his groan of approval at whatever he’d taken a sip from. “Is it wrong of me to say I’ve missed your taste? The way you feel around my cock.”

“Meet me in the parking lot,” I whimpered at his words, my thighs becoming wet and slick. My pussy was ready to take him, however he wanted me. The image of Talan’s cock and his words had me panting.

“I’m so wet for you.”

“Park around back,” Jaime commanded, his tone rough and angry before hanging up.

Turning into their lot, I drove toward the back and spotted his Camaro in the corner. He was leaning against it. Black pants, fitted black polo with the lounge’s name on the pocket, and hair wild—he looked delectable. He strode toward my door once the car was in park and dragged me out. The car stayed on, and when I tried to complain about it, I only got a rough…

”Leave it.”
