“She threw up on me.”

Kristin chuckled. Macy covered a nice portion on the
front of his shirt. “That is spit up.”

“That is
nasty
.”

“Bring her to me while you go change.”

Her son handed the baby to her. Kristin stared at the
little girl for a moment, realizing how much she resembled Hayden. It’d been
eighteen years since she’d held a baby so small. She reached for the pacifier
in the carrier and popped it in Macy’s mouth.

“If you are anything like your brother, that pacifier
is the only thing that will make you go to sleep.”

Kristin propped her up against her chest and rubbed
the baby’s back. The doorbell rang.

“Well, who is that, Miss Macy?” She stood with the
baby and headed toward the door. She stopped and opened it, instantly frowning.
“What do you want?”

Micah glanced toward the baby and back at Kristin. “I
need the key to my office.”

She sighed and reached for her keys next to the door.
“Here. Find it.”

She shoved them at him and went back into the living
room with the baby. Kristin didn’t breathe for a solid five seconds as she
tried to focus on the television while Macy slept in her arms. Why did he have
to come here? Why couldn’t he wait until she came to work? Why did he have to
be such a prick?

“Are you taking up babysitting after turning in your
resignation?” Micah stood in the foyer, staring into the living room at her.

“Maybe. At least babies don’t hurt you.”

He took a few steps toward her. “I’m not apologizing
for the way I feel.”

“Is there anything else you need?” She jerked her head
toward him, meeting his eyes. “Because if not, I think you should go.”

“Why am I the ass in this situation? You knew from the
beginning that I didn’t want a relationship. Why did you have to turn something
fun into something more serious? I can’t be held responsible for that.”

“I disagree with you, but then you know that.” She
patted Macy’s back.

He rubbed his forehead. “Fine. Are you pregnant?”

She snorted. “I haven’t exactly had time to take a
test. But don’t worry, if I am, I plan to keep the baby. Abortion really isn’t
my thing.”

His jaw hardened. “That’s a low blow.”

“Yeah, well, you don’t deserve anything but.” She
pressed a kiss to Macy’s forehead. “You don’t deserve me either.”

“Hey, Mom, I—” Hayden stopped with his shirt in his
hand. “What are you doing here?”

“He’s leaving, Hayden.” Kristin stood and carried the
baby to her son. “Here. Take your sister into the other room.”

She grabbed Micah’s arm and urged him toward the door.
Micah stopped and stared down at her. For a brief second, she forgot about the
morning’s events. She forgot about their fight and about their reason for
breaking up.

“I’m leaving for Japan in the morning.”

“Have fun with Emma. Make sure you leave the room long
enough to settle the deals with Mr. Kanji. Otherwise, your money situation
won’t be solved.”

“It’s not like that and you know it.”

“Really? Do I?” She propped her hand on the doorknob.
“I don’t see why you can’t have fun with her. She practically humps you every
chance she gets and I think you like the attention. What’s a little harmless
fun, right?”

“You know, maybe you’re right.” Micah’s expression
hardened. “Emma is probably wild in bed. I shouldn’t deny myself the pleasure.”

“No, you shouldn’t. After all, that’s all you want.
All pleasure, no responsibility. Classic case of immaturity.”

“I’m leaving.”

“Please don’t come back.”

She closed the door and turned to find Hayden standing
in the foyer. He’d probably heard everything they said.

“Where is Macy?”

“Sleeping.” He swallowed. “Did he cheat on you? Is
that why you broke up?”

She licked her lips. “You shouldn’t be eavesdropping,
Hayden.”

“Who did he sleep with?”

“No one.” She so did not want to have this
conversation with him.

“Well, something happened. Tell me what it was.”

She sat on the couch and pulled the baby’s carrier
toward her. “Hayden, I love you, sweetie, but it’s none of your business.”

“I told him not to hurt you.”

“What?” She lifted her head and met his eyes. “When?”

“At your office. When I gave him the tickets. I told
him you’d been through enough and that he didn’t need to hurt you.”

She sighed. “Hayden…”

“What did he do?”

She lifted the baby from the carrier and cradled her
in her arms. “I told him I loved him and he told me he didn’t love me back.”

“Why doesn’t he love you back?”

She shrugged. “I don’t know. I don’t really care.”

The baby opened her eyes and Kristin smiled. “She
reminds me so much of you.”

“Mom…”

“Hayden, drop it. Come over here and sit. I think you
need your first lesson in changing a diaper.”

Chapter
Seventeen

Traveling sucked. Mostly when it was for business
instead of pleasure. He’d spent two days in Japan working on another deal and
was exhausted. Emma had talked non-stop on the plane ride over and when they
landed, she’d invited herself to his hotel room. He wasn’t in the mood. He
realized that the first time she made an advance. He simply wasn’t interested.
He didn’t even know why he’d brought her along.

He pulled out his cell phone and stared at it, willing
it to ring. It didn’t. He had fucked things up royally with Kristin. No matter
how much he told himself he didn’t care, he couldn’t stop thinking about her.
He couldn’t stop thinking about what his family had said.

Micah lay back on the bed and stared up at the
ceiling. The situation with Molly killed any and all ability to show affection.
His family’s comments didn’t help. He never wanted marriage and kids. He never
pictured himself with a wife at home and a life outside of work.

Then Molly happened. Things had started out great and
he couldn’t have been happier. He didn’t realize how hard he’d fallen for her
until she told him she was pregnant. He didn’t realize he even wanted that.

Micah rubbed his forehead. He was so fucked up. Gabe’s
statement rang in his head over and over.
She’s
not Molly.
He groaned. He knew she wasn’t Molly. Molly was young and
stupid. Just a girl who was barely twenty-one. He hadn’t been much older.

He sat up and contemplated dialing Kristin’s number.
He didn’t have much to say but he wanted to hear her voice. Micah groaned. He
needed to get his mind off of her. He needed to stop thinking about her. He
needed to cease all ties and move on with his life.

He blew out a breath. He couldn’t. He couldn’t just
erase her like a figment of his imagination.
You don’t deserve me.

A knock sounded at the door and he groaned. It had to
be Emma. He stood and crossed the room to answer it.

“What is your deal?” It was Emma.

“Excuse me?”

She barged into his room, dressed in the hotel’s robe.
“I like you. I’m attracted to you. I thought you were attracted to me. What is
the problem?”

Micah closed the door and turned around. “The problem
is you are my employee and I have no interest in you becoming anything more.”

“Not even now?” She undid the robe and opened it to
reveal her naked body.

She let the sleeves slide down her arms and the robe
dropped to the floor. Emma moved to the bed and lay back with her legs spread,
her bare pussy exposed to him. A small piercing decorated her clitoral hood.

“You can have me, Mr. Bosk. Anyway you want me.” Her
fingers slipped between her legs and fondled her clit.

Micah took a deep breath, watching her. Her middle
finger slid inside her pussy while she continued to rub her clit with her other
hand. Little whimpers filled the room.

“I’m wet and I’m all yours.” She withdrew her finger
and brought it to her lips.

He took a step toward her and bent to retrieve her
robe. After tossing it to her, he pointed toward the door. “Get out of my hotel
room.”

“You’re rejecting me?”

“Yes. Get out of my hotel room, Emma.” He walked
toward the door and jerked it open. She shoved her arms in the robe and
followed. “By the way, you’re fired. You can go back to the States tomorrow
morning.”

Her lips parted, but she didn’t say anything. He slammed
the door in her face and went to find his phone. He was going home, too.

****

“We sure are going to miss you around here, girl.”
Jamie, Lyn, and Sable hugged Kristin in the foyer of the second floor of Bosk
Enterprises.

The entire office had given her a going away party and
it had been so bittersweet. She’d made it the whole week without seeing Micah. At
this point, the situation was what it was. Rick decided to help out with
Hayden’s tuition by giving him a job at his office. In that regard, things were
finally looking up.

“I’m going to miss my girls, too.” She hugged them
back.

“Don’t be a stranger.” Jamie didn’t want to let her
go.

Kristin pulled away slowly. “You guys are the best.”

The elevator doors opened and Micah stepped out onto
the floor. Everyone stopped and stared.

“No one informed me there was a party.”

While a few assistants scrambled to clean up some of
the mess, Micah met her eyes. He looked like hell. She wondered if he’d slept
at all.

She cut a piece of the cake and handed it to him. “You
would have been invited if you’d been in town.”

He took the cake, though he didn’t take his eyes off
of her. “I want to talk to you in my office.”

Kristin shook her head. “I don’t think that’s a good
idea.”

“Kris—” he paused. “Ms. Marsh, it will only take a
second and you can be on your way.”

He pushed past her and she reluctantly followed him.
What could he possibly have to talk to her about?

“Have a seat.” He tossed the cake to his desk as she
closed the door behind her.

She watched him. “You look like shit.”

“I feel like shit.” He brushed a hand over his face.
“Japan was horrible.”

“Emma didn’t rock your world? Wait, on second thought,
it’s none of my business. I really don’t want to hear anything you have to say
about it.”

He leaned against his desk and she thought she might
have actually seen him plead with his eyes. Foolishly or not, she couldn’t turn
away. “She tried. Started on the plane ride with her hand on my thigh. She
tried to get me to take a shower with her when we landed, then she came to my
room in nothing but a robe and climbed on my bed to finger her pussy while I
watched.”

Kristin tried to remain expressionless. “Why are you
telling me this?”

“Kristin, I want you. I thought I could live without
the strings. I thought what we had was just a good time, but somewhere along
the fucking way, it became more.” He met her eyes. “It scares the shit out of
me.”

“You said you didn’t love me.”

“I lied.” He took a deep breath. “I don’t know what
the fuck I’m doing anymore.”

She pursed her lips. “You just now decided this?”

“Yeah. I never wanted this. I never wanted love or marriage
or babies. With Molly it sort of happened. She got pregnant and I thought the
right thing to do was marry her. Then she died and I realized I never wanted
that until she took it away. I didn’t plan any of it which is the real kicker
of the story.”

“What exactly are you saying to me, Micah?”

“I still want it, Kristin.” He licked his lips. “Like
before, I didn’t realize it until I lost it, but I have the opportunity to tell
you. I want to share it all with you.”

She stood. “You can’t just come in and say something
like that to me.”

“Why not?”

“You told me you didn’t love me. You told me I’d
dreamed up our relationship, that it was just a fantasy in my mind.”

“I told you I was scared. I still am. I don’t know
what the fuck I’m doing. I don’t know which way is up.” He blew out a breath.
“Kristin, all I do know is that I want you.”

She stared at him. He wasn’t really saying this. She
had to be dreaming. “You can’t be serious.”

“I’m dead serious. Why the fuck would I be here if I
wasn’t?”

“What do you mean?”

“I called your house. Hayden answered and told me
quite frankly to fuck off. Then I convinced him to listen to what I had to say
and he informed me of your little party here today.”

“I decided to take a few vacation days.” She chewed on
her lower lip. “Hayden told you to fuck off?”

“Your son loves you. That is very clear to anyone who
has ever met him.”

She smiled. “What did he say when you told him you
wanted me?”

“That I should come here and tell you I love you.”

“But you haven’t said it yet.”

He reached out to her and pulled her into his arms. “I
love you, Kristin. I’m sorry that I told you I didn’t.”

She stared into his eyes, believing he spoke the truth.
“I’m not ready to forgive you just yet.”

She understood him being scared. She felt the same.
Love was a strange emotion. What she felt for Rick wasn’t anything like what
she felt for Micah. It was better, on so many different levels.

“What am I going to have to do?”

“I don’t know, but I can’t keep going back and forth.
You can’t keep things from me. You can’t act like an arrogant ass all the time.”
She stepped forward and cupped his cheeks. “Do you really love me?”

“Yes. I love you.”

She kissed him. In his arms, her world righted again
and the past didn’t seem to matter anymore. Except for his recent trip to
Japan. She pulled away and slapped his arm.

“Ow.”

“You watched that little hoochie masturbate?”

He groaned. “She was on my bed.”

She slapped his arm again. “Why did you let her in?”

“Baby, she barged in.”

She slapped his arm twice. “And you let her stay long
enough to undress?”

He grabbed her arms and forced them behind her back.
“I kicked her out after she begged me to fuck her.”

He kissed her and Kristin melted. “You didn’t do
anything though, right? No kissing, touching, or other stuff.”

“No. She tried to cop a feel on the plane but she
didn’t touch the target.” She chuckled and he smiled. “I promise I didn’t do
anything with her. But I want to do everything with you.”

She pursed her lips. “I still don’t know if I forgive
you.”

He let her arms go and reached inside his coat pocket.
“Maybe we can talk about this then.”

He pulled out a ring box and handed it to her. She
felt her eyes widen at the surprise.

“I’m not asking you to marry me right now but that is
definitely the plan for the future.” His hand brushed along her thigh. “What do
you think about that?”

She popped the top of the box and gasped. She glanced
up at him. “Are you serious? An ‘I love you’, an ‘I’m sorry’, and an engagement
ring, in one afternoon?”

“I am serious. The ‘I love you’ is the truth. The ‘I’m
sorry’ was my admittance to being a jackass. And the ring is my way of saying I
don’t want to lose you.” He folded his arms over his chest. “Work has always
been my world, but these past few weeks, you’ve become my world. I like the
change. I like that I can spend time with you and simply get lost in the moment
instead of constantly worrying about something I don’t have control over.”

“We haven’t even been on a real date.”

“So? I offered to take you to Japan. Twice. I did take
you to Texas to meet my family. We went to Hayden’s game and enjoyed a lovely
night at the hospital with your ex. I think we’re past formal dating, but I’ll
take you wherever you want to go if you say you’ll have me.”

She wanted him, all right. She’d wanted him from the
very moment he first realized who she was. Mr. Bosk wasn’t an easy guy to
please. She loved that about him. Always a challenge, one she didn’t mind
trying to figure out.

“I just want to go home.”

He gripped the edge of his desk. “With or without me?”

“Oh definitely with. I forgave you the moment you said
you loved me. I just wanted to see you grovel a bit.”

She smiled and leaned in to kiss him. With the ring
box in her hand, she admired the diamond he picked out. “You know this is way
too big.”

“No it’s not.”

“And expensive.”

“No denying that one.”

“I don’t know if I want marriage just yet.”

“That’s fine.” He took the ring and put it on her
finger. It fit perfectly. “We have your son’s blessing, so whenever you are
ready, let me know.”

That got her attention. “Hayden knows?”

“Yeah. I sort of asked him.”

If she didn’t know better, she could have sworn he
blushed. She cupped his cheeks and stared into his dark eyes. “I love you.”

“Yeah, baby. Me too.”

****

Micah smiled at Kristin when he came out of the
bathroom. She sat back against the pillows of his bed, admiring the ring he’d
given her. He’d been such a fool. How could anyone be around her and not love
her?

“You know,” she said. “I think the size is starting to
grow on me. It’s huge, but I like it.”

He chuckled and crawled in beside her. “Jewelry always
makes women forgive men. I bought you a bracelet as well, for the next time I
screw up.”

She slapped his chest. “That’s not funny. What does it
look like?”

“You have to wait until I screw up.” He lifted her
hand to his lips. “Give it a few days.”

“I’m not that easy.” She moved to straddle his waist.
“I’m still surprised you let me go from work.”
