The knock on her door came later that night. Katie opened it after peeking through the little peephole. Morgan stood in the hall, freshly showered and shaven. His hair was combed but it still fell in messy waves across his forehead.

She stepped to the side and let him in. “You all in one piece.”

He pulled her into his arms. “It’s sorted. For now.”

She held onto him tightly. “I’m glad.” Should she tell him what she had done? Or wait? “I called the cops.” She held her breath.

He stiffened. “You did what?”

She realized her mistake. “Not on you. On my…I told them I believed the killings out at the other clubhouse might be related to a multimillion-dollar deal going down.” She grinned as he stared at her, his mouth hanging open. “Then I called the news stations and told them too.”

“What the hell?” He shook his head. “This could ruin your father. Why would you do that?”

She shrugged. “If anyone comes looking at you, we’re covered.” A cold grin spread on her lips. “My father can handle himself. The great Blake Wilkes has plenty of tricks up his sleeve.”

He grabbed the belt hooks on her jeans and pulled her tightly against him. “You’re crazy! Very smart, but a little crazy.”

“I don’t think I’m crazy at all.” She kept the business tone in her voice, mimicking her father. “If you make your bed. You have to lie in it.”

His laughter filled the room. “Katie, you’re the wildest, craziest, most beautiful woman I have ever met. I’m never going to let you go. I hope you realize that!”

She slipped her arms over his shoulders and clasped her fingers around the back of his neck. “Good. Because I’m not planning on going anywhere. Ever.”

She lifted her mouth to his for a long kiss and when he finished kissing her, he picked her up and carried her to the bed. She closed her eyes as his mouth met the flesh of her neck.

She had walked away from one life, a life that had been all she had ever known, into one that was everything she had ever wanted.
