Chapter 17

Yancy watched his reflection in the mirror as he smoothed his tie down. He hated the uniform he was required to wear, but a rule was a rule. Every deputy in Cade Creek was required to wear a uniform. As the newest deputy on the force, Yancy could do no less—no matter what his relationship was to his boss.

Yancy smiled as he looked at the new gold band gracing his ring finger. That was one new item he had no problem wearing. He still couldn’t believe that he was actually married, and to two men.

The second Ma learned that they wanted to get married before he started work as a deputy in Cade Creek, she had organized a wedding. The woman was a pint-sized dynamo, coordinating and planning like the fate of the world depended on the wedding happening right on time.

Yancy didn’t know who she had called, but less than a week later he had stood in front of Brody at the church and exchanged vows with the two men he planned to spend the rest of his life with.

And what a life it was turning into.
Things were still a bit chaotic with the death of Ira Thornton, Sheriff Miller, and, as it turned out, Ezra Murphy, whose body had been found buried in the backyard of Sheriff Miller’s house. The evidence showed that Webber had killed them all. The current theory was that Webber discovered Sheriff Miller was his father and lost his marbles, killing Ira and Ezra because he saw them as a threat to his relationship with the sheriff. He had somehow learned about John’s investigation into his father and felt the need to take him out of the picture as well, first by threatening him then by trying to kill him. His friendship with John had been the only thing that kept him alive.
Luckily for just about everyone involved, there would be no trial for Webber, which meant no testifying for anyone. Webber was nuttier than a bed bug. He would be locked up in a mental institution for the rest of his life, deemed too crazy for trial.
Yancy was settling in nicely, having packed up all of his belongings and moving to Cade Creek at the first possible moment. He was staying with John and Seamus at John’s small apartment until their house could be built at the Blaecleah ranch.
Seamus was in charge of designing their new home, a chore that the man was aptly suited for. He seemed to know just what they needed for their new home, right down to the man cave room he had designed and the extra bedrooms for the children they had discussed adopting.
Seamus was determined to have the family he always dreamed of, and John and Yancy didn’t have the heart to deny the man anything— even if the thought of children scared the hell out of both of them.
“How’s it going in here?”
Yancy looked into the mirror. He could see Seamus walking into the room through the doorway behind him. The bright smile on Seamus’s face made him feel just a little less nervous, but just a little.
“I hate this tie.”
“Oh, I don’t know,” Seamus said as he walked around to stand in front of Yancy. He fiddled with the tie for a moment, smoothing it down his chest. “I think you look very handsome.”
“You’d think I looked handsome in a gunny sack.”
“True.” Seamus nodded. “But a man in uniform is pretty damn hot.”
“Right?” Yancy laughed as he envisioned John in his sheriff’s uniform. The man filled it out like the outfit was molded to his body. “I have fantasies of John fucking me in his uniform.”
Seamus’s face flushed. “Me, too.”
“Me, too, what?” John asked as he walked into the bedroom. “Oh, hey, look at you, Mr. Deputy.”
Yancy frowned as he looked down at the uniform he wore. Gods, he just wasn’t made to wear a uniform. As a detective, he had been allowed to wear street clothes. He had only been required to wear a uniform during special functions.
He hated uniforms.
“You’ll get used to it, babe,” John assured him. The man walked up behind Yancy and draped his arms over him, looking around his wide shoulders. “You look gorgeous. I imagine as soon as everyone in Cade Creek learns we have a sexy new deputy on the force, the calls will start pouring in.”
“I look ridiculous.”
“You look wonderful.”
“So says the man that gets to wear jeans with his uniform instead of slacks.”
John chuckled. “The perks of being the boss, babe, the perks of being the boss.”
“You’d think there would be perks to boinking the boss.”
“There are.” John laughed as he slapped Yancy on the ass then headed for the door. “You get to spend your lunch break in my office, bent over my desk.”
Yancy groaned at the sensual visual that gave him. He winced as he reached down and adjusted his suddenly achingly hard cock. “What time is lunch?”
“You have to actually start your first day of work before you can enjoy lunch with the boss, big man.” Seamus leaned up and brushed his lips over Yancy’s, giving him yet another need to adjust himself, then headed for the door. “Come on. I made breakfast, and it’s getting cold.”
Yancy groaned as he smoothed the tie down one last time then followed his loves out of the bedroom. He was a little surprised, and delighted, to see the breakfast Seamus had laid out on the table. There was enough food prepared to feed all of the Blaecleah brothers.
“Dig in,” Seamus said as he started dishing up some eggs onto his plate.
“What are your plans for the day, honey?” Yancy asked.
“Well, I’m going to head out to the ranch after you two leave for work. Da and I are going over the plans for the house. I think I’ve found the perfect spot just south of Asa and Lachlan’s house.”
“That open space over by the tree line?”
“Yep. Da says it will give us the privacy we need while still being close to the main house.”
“Sounds perfect.”
Seamus grinned. “That’s what I thought.”
“Do you have any other plans?” Yancy was really hoping to see Seamus at some point during his day. As much as he looked forward to his new job as a deputy, he would miss spending time with Seamus.
“Billy and Rourke are driving up to the state hospital later this afternoon to see Webber. Despite everything the man did, he is still Billy’s half brother, and Billy wants to talk to him, let him know that he has some family out there.”
Yancy’s fork paused halfway to his mouth. “Is that a good idea?”
Seamus shrugged. “I think it’s more for Billy than for Webber. While Billy has us and his mother, he wants some connection to family. With Ira being dead and Clem being in prison, that doesn’t leave many people.”
“Billy does realize that Webber is nuts, right?”
Seamus nodded. “He knows.”
“Does he understand that Webber will probably never see the outside world again?” Yancy asked. “He’ll probably spend the rest of his life behind bars.”
“He knows that, too. But he thinks that maybe if Webber knew he had other family besides Miller that maybe he wouldn’t have gone off the deep end.”
Yancy wasn’t sure he believed that. The deputy had murdered two people and kidnapped John and Seamus. As far as Yancy was concerned, Webber could rot in hell for what he had done.
“I just wanted to sit and talk with Billy for a little while before he took off. Rourke worships the ground Billy walks on, but he can be a little intense sometimes. I thought if Billy had someone besides my overbearing brother to talk to, he might be able to deal with things a little easier.”
“That’s nice, honey.” Yancy was constantly amazed at how giving his lover was. He showed his caring for those around him in words and deeds. It was one of Seamus’s most endearing qualities.
Seamus shrugged. “I feel bad for Billy. Most of his biological family is nuts, killers, and inbred monsters. His mother is pretty nice, but even she’s not playing with a full deck. She’s getting better all of the time, but Billy says it might take a lifetime for her to get past what Ira and Sheriff Miller did to her.”
Yancy understood that. He was still trying to deal with the trauma from having the people he cared about kidnapped and threatened. The sight of John fighting for his life while Seamus was tied to chair would always stay with him.
“After that”—Seamus grinned as he wiggled his eyebrows— “since both of my husbands work in the same place, I figured I’d bring them lunch.”
“Damn.” Yancy laughed. “Now, that is convenient.”
