“D irty bitch, that‟s what she gets for thinking she could just walk out on me. No one leaves me.”
Amidst the shadows of a dark alley Cash watched as the ambulance carried her away. It didn‟t have to end like this. Things were going so good at first; she had her head buried in his lap licking coke off his dick. Then when everything was gone, she wanted to leave. She laughed at him, insulted his manhood and thought she could just walk away.
He recognized the Latina girl from the hallway as he watched her talk to the paramedic. “I should‟ve killed her when I had the chance.”
He hadn‟t planned for things to get that messy, but the little bitch kept screaming.
It wasn‟t like he was doing anything wrong; he could tell that she had been run through a few times given the way he easily slid into her pussy. If she would‟ve cooperated she would‟ve enjoyed it; maybe showed him a thing or two; instead she wanted to yell and cry like a baby so he had to silence her.
He smiled as he remembered shoving his fist deep into her vagina. She pretended as if she didn‟t like it but he could tell by the way she was moaning that she fucking loved it, every minute of it.
She stopped crying once he got in that ass though. How sweet it felt to open her tight little asshole until she lost control of her bodily functions and defecated on him.
On nights when his body failed him, he jammed the vodka bottle inside of her and fucked her with the cold, alcohol filled glass.
“Nasty whore; she was nothing like my baby.” He felt an erection come on as he undid his jeans and began to stroke himself at the thought of her, “My sweet baby.”
As her face began to take form in his mind he ejaculated all over the bum that was sleeping at his feet.
“You‟ve been a very bad girl Asjiah; and when I find you Uncle Cash is going to have to teach you a lesson.”

Chapter Five

I had been accepted to Clark Atlanta University and would be living in a single room in Bumstead Hall. My way out had come in the form of grants and scholarships that would allow me to leave this black hole of a city otherwise known as Cleveland.

I was packed and ready for my winged chariot to take me away to soul food and sweet tea in sunny Atlanta, Georgia where I would lose myself on Peachtree Street. Or so I thought.

I believed that I could start over and meet some sexy boy from one of the schools that made up the AUC and that wearing his varsity jacket would erase all the ill shit that had happened to me in that house but I was wrong.

I hoped the southern accents of the Atlanta natives would drown out the boring Midwest drawl I was used to, and that the word “shawty” would replace all the “blue eyed bitches” I had been called. I thought I had calculated everything perfectly, but somehow I managed to leave out the one thing in the equation that was now causing me to subtract everything that had added up to this moment; CJ.

My dreams of going to school had passed two months ago, the minute I found out I was pregnant. How was I supposed to walk on the cheerleading squad and expect to be a flier when I was carrying a baby? This was definitely not part of the plan. I felt as though he set me up. I mean sure, I had laid down and had sex with him but if I recall, I asked him to put on a condom. No, I didn‟t protest when he said he didn‟t have one and that‟s my mistake, one that I now had to suffer the consequences for.

Instead of unpacking and arranging my new dorm room, I was waiting for my name to be called so the baby mechanics could come lube me up, rotate my tires, and replace my engine.

“Asjiah Cappelli?”

A middle aged white woman who resembled Mary

Poppins appeared in the lobby.
I didn‟t want to get up. Maybe if I just sat here for a
while she‟d go away.
CJ‟s eyes locked with mine and for a moment I
thought he would say something, tell me that he didn‟t
want to do this, that being here was a mistake. I thought he
would take me away from this awful place but he didn‟t. I
took my ring off and placed it on the table in front of him.
His pathetic ass couldn‟t even look at me.
“Asjiah Cappelli?” Repeating my name she glanced
over the chart as she waited in the doorway.
“Is there an Asjiah Cappelli here?” Mary Poppins‟
voice grew sterner as she glanced over the girls in the
waiting room.
“That‟s me,” I didn‟t recognize my voice as I spoke.
I sounded like a frightened child. In a sense, I guess that‟s
what I was. I got up, rolled my eyes at CJ, and then walked
towards the door.
“Right this way Ms. Cappelli.”
Ms. Poppins smiled at me as I followed behind her
and scenes from the movie began to play through my head.
In the film, her character was this perky nanny who could fly by using her umbrella. Looking at her I knew there would be no sing a‟ longs and that there was no way a spoon full of sugar was going to make this medicine go down.

“H ello?”
“What‟s up shorty?”
“Don‟t what‟s up shorty me nigga, did she do it

yet?” Corey rummaged through her closet as she tried to find something to wear.

“Man chill out, we at the clinic now; they just called her name.” CJ looked around paranoid that the nurses were listening to his conversation.
“I can‟t believe you were so careless. You told me that you weren‟t fucking her raw CJ; you told me you and that little white bitch was over.” Looking in the mirror, she held up a black jumpsuit; frowned, then put it back in the closet.

“I‟ve been patient long enough Christian, I‟m not going to keep warming the bench while you play house with her.”

“Listen, I told you it‟s being taken care of. Soon enough it will be me and you again.”
CJ put his head down and ran his hand across his head. The week him and Asjiah spent in Miami was perfect, just like old times. To see her smile again made him happy, how was he supposed to tell her that he didn‟t want to be with her anymore, that once they got back to Cleveland it was over? She had been through so much already and he didn‟t want to break her heart.
The image of her standing in front of the bathroom wearing the teddy she had bought from Victoria Secret almost made him second guess what he was doing. She looked so pretty. She was finally ready to give herself to him under the belief that he was hers and hers only.
“I‟m sorry A‟.”
“What?” Corey took the phone away from her ear and looked at it. “What did you just say?”
“Huh?”
“You just said I‟m sorry A‟.”
Shit. He was losing it. Asjiah didn‟t deserve this but it was too late to turn back now. Besides, she wanted that nigga Money anyway. He wasn‟t sure when they had gotten so close but he didn‟t like it. Money always seemed to be there when he wasn‟t. Not only that, but Angel was cool with him which made him look even better in Asjiah‟s eyes.
“I don‟t have time for this shit right now Corey; A‟ is upstairs bout to kill my seed and you‟re whining; you‟re so fucking inconsiderate.”
“Incon…”
Before she could finish, the phone went dead in her ear.

H ow did I end up here?
I was still in shock that CJ even uttered the words abortion. I didn‟t expect him to be ecstatic about my pregnancy but I thought he would get over it in time and come to accept it. Hell, I didn‟t know how I was going to take care of a baby neither but I knew I was going to try. I had already lost too much, too many people; I wasn‟t going to allow my child to be another one.

The door opened interrupting my thoughts and Mary Poppins entered; she was the psychologist? Great, I have to deal with her again.

She sat behind the desk, pushed her glasses up to her nose and cleared her throat before speaking.
“Ajeeiah.”

“It‟s Asjiah. Like the country.” Minus ten; she was already off to a bad start.
“Oh, I‟m sorry. Well Asjiah; my name is Dr. Phillips and I wanted to ask you some questions before we go any further with the process.

Process
, you call killing an unborn child a process?” I could feel the baby shift to my right side. I placed my hand against it in an effort to calm things down.
“Now, now young lady; there is no need to get upset. I just need to know if this is really what you want to do. I know a lot of times girls get bullied into these situations because the person they are with, or their family, thinks it maybe the right thing to do; but it isn‟t about them. It‟s your body; therefore it‟s your decision.”
She was right. It was my decision yet I had allowed CJ to convince me that
we
didn‟t need a child right now, that
we
weren‟t ready for the responsibility. What about what
I
thought?
“So is this what you want to do?” Ms. Poppins stared back at me with her hands folded and waited for me to respond.
My first reaction was to say; bitch does it look like this is what Iwant to do? But I couldn‟t; I knew I should‟ve said no. I knew it was wrong. The baby gently kicked my side as a signal to tell me to speak up but I couldn‟t. I was scared.
I knew Marie would have a field day with this if I came home with a child. Would she put me out once she found out I was pregnant? What would I do then? I had already lied and told her that my housing had been screwed up so I had to sit out a semester. What would she say if she found out the real reason I wasn‟t going to school was because I was pregnant?
“Asjiah?”
“Yes.”
“Yes; is that your answer?”
Tears began to pour down my cheeks and my heart felt like it was in my throat. What had I just agreed to? I had just signed my child‟s death certificate. I placed my hand to my swollen belly and instead of kicking; there wasn‟t any movement at all. I‟m sure it was aware of what was about to happen.

Chapter Six

CJ watched her as she slept peacefully in the backseat. She had this thing she did with her lips, it looked as if she was pouting or waiting for someone to kiss her. She looked so angelic, so peaceful. Amidst all the chaos that was surrounding her, he was glad that he could finally take her away.

Girls like Asjiah were rare. Smart, ambitious, sexy, caring, loving, but street at the same time. With everything he had put her through she still stood by his side. Loyalty was a trait not many people had but once Asjiah pledged hers to you; she was down for you no matter what.

He just needed her to wait, that‟s what the ring was for; to symbolize a promise that once he was ready, he would come back to her. Sure it was selfish to ask her to sit on the backburner until he got his shit together but he couldn‟t allow someone else to wife her.

He made the mistake of cheating with Corey; he never really broke things off with her, she was his side chic; the only setback with that is he knew Asjiah wouldn‟t play second to anybody, especially Corey.

He had feelings for both of them, but the problem was they were enemies. Corey and Asjiah hated each other yet he loved them both for different reasons.

He practically grew up with Corey. At first she was like one of the boys; she would play ball with them, watch sports; to him she was just little snot nosed Corrine from around the corner. But as time passed she traded in her baggy jeans for a pair that showcased these new found hips she had developed and her once flat chest now boasted dcup breasts.

After playing hide-n-go get it; they had their first kiss and a few days later she allowed him to put his thirteen year old penis inside of her.

Corey had always been his safety net; she was there to catch him every time he fell whether it was stealing money from her parents to bail him out of jail, letting him stash his drugs at her mom‟s crib, or being his alibi when he needed one. She was his ride or die chic and he thought no one would come in between them until he met her.

It was easy to fall for Asjiah because she didn‟t have to try and be anything or anyone but herself. She didn‟t care what other people thought of her and he admired that. Her personality was contagious and she made it easy for him to be himself around her. She wasn‟t moved by the money he spent on her, the gifts he bought; all she wanted was him.

She was a good girl, his sweetheart; she kept him focused, grounded, she offered a distraction from the normalcy of life. She inspired him to do something better, to want more for himself, she was his better half.

Staring at her he realized just how much he had taken her for granted.
“Wake up baby girl.”
He watched her as she stretched, rubbed her eyes and put on her sunglasses.
“Welcome to the Royal Palm‟s at South Beach.” “We‟re staying here?”
He helped her out the car and smiled as she adjusted her ponytail and tried to knock the wrinkles out of her orange linen Enyce dress.
“What‟s wrong you don‟t like it?”
“Like it? CJ I love it!”
“Excuse me sir, would you like some water while you wait? We have tea and coffee as well.”
“What?” CJ sat up in the chair and looked around. For a moment, he had forgotten where he was until he noticed all the pregnant girls around him. He had drifted off for a second, allowed his mind to replay memories that he tried so hard to forget; needed to forget in order to move on.
“No thank you.”
“Alright, let me know if you need anything.” The nurse slid the glass window closed and returned to her paperwork.
CJ quickly picked up the diamond ring that lay neglected on the table in front of him and put it in his pocket.

“A lright, I need you to roll up your right sleeve and relax. I‟m going to draw some blood; this will only take a few minutes.”

I stared blankly at the nurse as she tapped gently on my arm. She probably had a daughter my age; I could only imagine what she thought of me.
“See, all done. The doctor will be in shortly to escort you to the ultrasound room.” She collected the sample she had taken, labeled it, and left the room.

I wanted to throw up; I was literally making myself sick. I was a coward, a punk; I had something to say any other time but when itmattered the most, when someone‟s life depended on it; my child‟s life, I couldn‟t say shit; pitiful.

“Hi. Asjiah?”

I looked up to see another doctor standing in the doorway. It seemed like everyone wanted a piece of the action. Everyone wanted to partake in the death of my child. I felt like they were all trying to dismember me piece by piece.

“I need you to follow me; we‟re going to do a quick ultrasound just to make sure there aren‟t any complications before we move on with the next part of the procedure.”
