Chase stepped in front of

Danni looked up at Chase,

work in the morning.”

Chase studied her
expression; saw the anxiety creasing her forehead, and knew she
wasn't ready to stay the night in Alex's bed. He was stunned she had
come as far as she had with him and Alex and certainly didn't want to
push too much and risk her regressing back to ambivalence on their
future relationship as a menage. Her eyes told him everything he
needed to know: she needed time alone with him to process what was
happening and she needed reassurance it was all going to be okay –
possibly even better than it was before Alex entered their life.

He ran the pads of his
fingers over Danni's cheek and nodded. He understood where her heart
was at that moment and he needed to protect it. He reached behind
Danni and stroked Alex's face. He held Alex's gaze for a long
moment; almost having a silent conversation with nothing more than
their eyes. They'd become really good at reading the others'
expressions and right now it was really important Alex understood
what he was trying to convey.

We
can do it another time,” Alex finally said, and with a shrug of
his shoulder he stepped away from Danni.

A sigh of relief escaped
Danni's mouth and Chase smiled at how gallantly Alex was letting her
off the hook without pushing the idea of staying in his house.

“
Sounds
perfect,” Chase said.

“
Maybe
I could cook dinner for us tomorrow night,” Danni said in a
soft voice, her eyes leveled at the patio stones beneath her bare
feet.

Alex
looked at Danni, relieved by her offer. It meant she wasn't giving
up and turning away from the idea of them being together and Alex
couldn't stop the smile that curled his lips. She needed time to
process. He could accept that and he wouldn't push for more, no
matter how much he wanted it.

“
I'd
really like that,” Alex said. “And, I'll even help. I
love to cook.”

Danni smiled nervously and
nodded. “Sounds like fun,” she said, and started walking
toward the guest house.

Chase
reached for Alex and gave him a chaste kiss. “Fucking awesome
night,” he quietly said.

“
The
best,” Alex said. “I hope it's the first of many more
just like it.”

Chase smiled broadly and
moved away. “I'll talk to you tomorrow,” he said to
Alex, and gave him a wave.

Danni moved around the guest
house in silence, taking a quick shower and dressing in panties and a
tank top, then walking into the kitchen for something to drink. She
returned to the bedroom and found Chase reclined against the
headboard of their bed wearing nothing but a pair of boxer briefs,
checking his email on his laptop computer. He set the device on the
floor when he saw her approach the bed and smiled. She handed him a
glass of iced tea and climbed up on the bed beside him.

Chase hooked his arm around
her shoulders and pulled her close, kissing her lips. “I
remembered something I wanted to tell you,” he said. So much
had transpired since he'd talked with Jayson, he'd completely
forgotten about their conversation. He looked at Danni and grinned.

She looked at him with
concern in her eyes. “What have you done?”

“
I
haven't done anything you don't already know about,” he said.
“This isn't about me. It's about Jayson.”

Danni shimmied up onto an
elbow and looked at Chase.

“
He
asked me to stop by his house, so I did,” Chase said. “We
were having a beer and he came out to me.”

“
Came
out?” she asked.

“
Yeah.
He's gay.”

“
No
way!”

Chase
nodded. “Yep, he's says he's always been gay, but totally
living in the closet.”

“
You
can't be serious,” Danni said. “He's dated so many girls
– some of them were my friends, and I know he slept with them.”

“
He
admits to that,” Chase said. “But, he claims he did it
to hide who he really is. Apparently he's got a fuck buddy dude on
the Cape that he's been seeing every few weeks for quite a while.”

Danni held on to her head,
as if it might explode. “I can not believe what you're saying!
Jayson? Gay? It doesn't fit.”

Chase shrugged. “He
said knowing about me gave him the courage to finally come clean.
And, eventually when he meets someone worth it, he said he'll come
out to everyone, but for right now he's only telling me – and
you, and we're not supposed to tell anyone else.”

“
All
these years we've known him,” Danni said. “I never would
have guessed.”

“
Jay
said the same thing about me,” Chase laughed.

Danni rolled her eyes.
“Looks like you two have more in common than you thought!”

“
I
know, right?” Chase said with a chuckle and kissed her
forehead.

He looked at her and saw the
serious expression on her face. He had so many questions for her
about Alex; wanted to make sure she was okay with everything that had
happened. But, he wasn't exactly sure how to start that
conversation. In the end, he decided to just jump into it.

“
Baby,
I need to know what you're thinking and feeling about Alex,”
Chase said.

Danni
settled her head on the pillow beside him and faintly smiled. Chase
gazed at her. His finger trailed the length of her slender brow,
then skimmed over her cheek and down onto her lips. “Are you
okay with everything?” he asked.

Danni
nodded. “It was … so good,” she said and her face
flushed with heat. “Better than I thought it could be.”

Her
comment brought Chase relief. He sighed loudly and tipped his head
back. “Christ! You had me nervous,” he said. “You
weren't saying anything about it, so I was beginning to think you
were upset.”

“
Watching
you and Alex was unnerving at first, but after a while, I found
myself mesmerized by it,” she said.

“
No
jealously?” he asked.

“
It's
a lot to process,” she said. “Because I can see the
emotion between you two, but I think I'm okay with it.”
