The Alpha’s Captive

Hunters have taken everything from Devon Carsten. First, they murdered his parents, and now they’ve taken his brother. With no other options left, Devon decides an eye for an eye, or in this case a brother for a son, is the best course of action, and he takes the son of the man who kidnapped his brother. But his plan blows up in his face when he realizes the man in question is his mate.

Aiden Stefano never imagined a weekend at home would start off with him being kidnapped by men claiming to be werewolves or that he would fall for one. Now he must find a way to convince Devon what they share is worth fighting for and prove to his father that wolves aren’t the monsters he believes them to be. Shouldn’t be too hard, right?

Aiden is the only thing Devon has to bargain with, but can he give up his mate to save his brother?

Chapter One

“Dad, I’m positive.” Aiden rolled his eyes even though his father couldn’t see the action. His father’s overprotectiveness had grown quite annoying over the years. He was about to turn twenty and had been living in a college dorm for the past year and a half. Aiden wasn’t a little kid anymore. “You and Mom go have a good time with your friends. I’ll be fine. I can use the time to study.”

“Son, it’s not a problem. We can wait until you get home before we leave. Your mother and I love spending time with you now that we hardly ever get to see you anymore.”

Aiden bit his lip, trying to tromp down the need to scream into the phone. He loved his parents, he really did, but they seriously needed to cut the cord. Ever since he went off to college they tried to guilt him back home with anything they could. He was their only child, and it was obvious they were having empty-nest syndrome.

“Dad, seriously I could use the quiet time to study. One of my professors gave us an outline of the remainder of the semester’s reading material, and I’m going to use this long weekend break to get ahead.”

He just finished midterm exams and had the next six days off. He sounded like a complete nerd. Well that’s what his friends had told him. Aiden didn’t feel the need to go get hammered all in the name of teenage fun just because he had a few days off from school. School was important, and he didn’t want to flunk out of college. His father had to work his way through veterinarian school, and because of his hard work, Aiden was able to attend college without collecting a load of debt. Plus Thanksgiving was in a few days, and he’d have to drive home for that. He thought he might as well kill two birds with one stone.

“That’s my boy. Always have your eye on the prize.” He could hear the pride in his father’s voice. “I wish you were coming with us, but you have a good reason not to. Your mother will be disappointed, but I’m sure she’ll get over it. I’ll just take her shopping or something.”

Aiden chuckled. “You better watch it. Mom will get pissed if she hears you say she can be bought.”

“It’s true though.” His dad let out a laugh. “Well I better let you go so you can drive. Don’t want you to get into an accident because you weren’t paying attention. Oh, before I forget Peter is going to stop by and check in on you while we’re gone.”

“Uh, Dad, you don’t have to have Peter come spy on me,” Aiden said with a fair amount of annoyance. Peter was a family friend and the closest neighbor they had for miles.

“Come on. It’ll make your mother and I feel better.”

“Fine.” Aiden relented because he knew no matter what he said Peter would stop by.

“We’ll see you when we get back from our trip. I love you, Aiden.”

“I love you, too, Dad. Tell Mom I said hi and that I love her, too.”

His dad said his good-byes and hung up the phone. Aiden hit his blinker to get on the ramp that led to the highway. He had a three-hour drive ahead of him and nothing but the radio for company. It didn’t bother him though. Aiden never had been one of those people who needed a ton of other people around to make him happy or feel comfortable. He liked spending time alone where he didn’t feel like he had to entertain other people.

At school his friends liked to party and go out on dates. All that was fine and dandy but not how Aiden wanted to spend his time. First off, his friends dated girls. Major conflict for Aiden since he was gay. It didn’t bother his friends or make them uncomfortable, but honestly going to clubs for straight people didn’t offer him a lot of options. Sure he could ogle the hot guys milling around, but it was a waste of time. At the end of the night all those hot guys would go home with any woman who was willing to have them.

Another reason for avoiding the alcoholic haze most college students thought was their God-given right was his schooling. School came first. Going to football games, hanging out with friends and the occasional date were always good, but he was attending college to get his degree in psychology, not become an overprivileged kid who partied too much. If he failed it would let his parents down, and Aiden never wanted to do that. He didn’t need their approval, but he wanted it.

The drive passed in a haze as he took the familiar exists toward his home. His parents had bought a house in a small town by the name of Hollis when he was in high school. It was located in the country, a fair distance away from the nearest city, but a beautiful place to live. He wanted peace and quiet, and it surrounded him here.

Aiden turned down the long driveway and hit the button to open the garage door. He parked his jeep inside then walked around to the back to grab his bags. Shouldering as much as he could, Aiden nudged the door that led to the kitchen open. He stopped by the laundry room on the way and dropped off three bags full of dirty clothes.

He looked down at the bags stuffed to the gills with his clothes. Letting out a heavy sigh, Aiden started to sort the colors from the whites. It was times like this he wished his mother hadn’t gone on vacation. Every time he tried to do his laundry he’d dyed or shrunk something. Even his mother didn’t understand how he could mess something as simple as doing his laundry up.

With the first of many loads spinning in the wash, Aiden went to the kitchen to get something to eat. He didn’t realize how hungry he was until he smelt the welcoming scent of home, vanilla and chocolate. By the aroma he could tell his mom had made her famous chocolate chip cookies recently. And he knew exactly where she hid them, the freezer.

“Jackpot!” Aiden pulled out his loot and placed it on the counter while he got the stuff out to make a turkey sandwich. His parents knew in advance he wouldn’t be going with them so they made sure to have the fridge stocked and the pantry full of his favorite snacks. They spoiled him rotten, one of the many privileges of being an only child.
