Energy swelled up between us, originating from where we were connecting, but soon surrounding us in a white light of sexual energy, of pure love, making us one in more ways than one could define, could put mere words to. We were cocooned in it. When my breath hitched, my body finally soared, leaving my mind in a surreal state as my head flew up and back in the throes of pleasure, letting me see the clouds that moved outside the windows of the jet. As my muscles contracted, and I felt him begin to cum with me, the earth moved with us it seemed, even though we were miles and miles above it. My body shook like a mighty earthquake. I heard the roar of ocean waves crashing on a shore in my ears. A volcano of molten lava erupted within me as each muscle contracted. Passion rained down over us, letting the quiver of lightning move over our skin. We were a dangerous storm together, nothing to be trifled with or taken lightly.
The crescendo of it all, of our mutual climaxes, hit a few, hard beats before mellowing out. The rock and roll beat of drums in my head gave way to the soft cry of a bow pulled over the strings of a violin. Our hearts beat as one as I fell into his embrace. With each kiss he offered my lips, my inner walls continued to shake around him, making my hips jerk in the aftermath of our pleasure.
He held me tighter, rolling to sandwich me between him and the back of the couch. We curled up like that, content to hold each other, to be pressed together, and just let our minds wander. With our connection, we shared our emotions as thoughts of everything from gratitude at being together to the wonder of what would come next for us once we got to the island emerged.
“We are ten minutes from beginning our descent,” a voice broke through our thoughts, the sound of one of the pilots over the intercom system.
“Guess that is our cue to get dressed and straighten ourselves up,” I said with a tight laugh, trying to be simply thankful for this time we’d just had, putting off the regret of it ending and the nerves of what was to come. I gathered up my clothes like one of those women in the movies trying to make a getaway after a regretful evening. I laughed out loud, the idea of it so far from my truth.
Chapter Sixteen
The landing was so smooth, I barely realized we’d hit the ground as I’d been staring, mesmerized by the large piece of land surrounded on all sides by crystal clear water that had suddenly come into view. It had only been water one minute, and the next it had shimmered into view. Just like the pilot had said, as if it had been created from nothing right before our eyes rather than the magical veil over it being lifted as the plane entered some force field or something. I didn’t really know, or at this moment care. Instead, I stared out my window. What else could I do with such beauty?”
On our descent, I could see the lay of the land from beaches around three fourths of it, to what seemed like jagged rocks and waterfalls on another. In the majority of the middle was a vast forest, thick and green with only spots of color from the height we were at. The crown jewel, though, was the castle that sat on the back fourth of the island, viewed from where we were coming in. The sprawling structure rose up proud and tall, yet fit right in to the rest of the place. I could hardly wait now to get off the plane and explore all I’d seen up close.
We were both dressed, and completely put together, as if nothing had happened but conversation on the flight by the time the pilots opened the door to the outside world. I knew Lex had been here before, but still, his face looked as impressed by the place as I was, a little mouth hanging open in wonder kind of amazed.
Who wouldn’t be? Glorious sunshine, a maize yellow, shimmered over the small landing strip that was seemingly paved with white cement embedded with pearls. Not really, but it gave such an impression, as clean and shiny as it was. The pavement, if you could call it that, flowed seamlessly, like a small stream, into grass and then a jungle of sorts, given the thick foliage.
With that sunlight, pure and unfiltered without pollution, on the green of the moss covered trees, the leaves looked as if they might feel like a soft suede. Everything had a magic sheen to it, as if each tree, each fern, each flower, had been magically created, and then placed by some goddess. Who knows? Maybe they had. Maybe the whole of the island had been created by a sorcerer, and then spelled to be invisible to any other man.
One couldn’t help letting their imagination run away with them when faced with such amazing natural artistry. The temperature was just perfect, too. Maybe high seventies or low eighties, with a tropical breeze that kept any humidity at bay. Warmth bathed me, surrounding me like a cozy blanket. The air smelled like salt water, coming right up off the water to lift my hair and blow it lightly around my face. I took deep breath after deep breath, infusing myself with the goodness that floated on the air here, re-awakening every cell in my body.
Back to that magic thing, I could feel the very air making the energy in me awaken to tingle just beneath my skin. I looked down at my hands, expecting to see myself glowing. Sun or my powers, either way, my creamy skin did have a sheen to it. I’d never looked or felt more awake, or more alive, in my life. With that, I oddly relaxed and felt right at home.
To add to all of that, the sounds of the birds in those trees hit my ears. They were unlike any I’d heard before. Some songs consisted of one repeated note, not varying in pitch, like chirps or trills. Intermingling with them, as if singing in a choir, others songs consisted of two or even three notes with different pitches, bringing forth consistent repetitions like someone whistling a tune over and over again. I felt they sung to welcome me, as strange as that sounds.
When Lex took my hand and we walked to the end of the landing strip, just at the opening to the jungle, there was a small stone path that wound through. The tiny pebbles looked like river rocks, only more on the light grey and beige side. I felt like Dorothy about to step on some sort of yellow brick road. I could definitely compare this place to Oz; only, I didn’t want to wake up and find it a dream.
As if to welcome me just as my feet hit the stones, two birds landed on a branch over my head. I stopped Lex to gaze with absolute awe at their coloring. Their vivid blue, a true, deep aquamarine, covered their faces and bellies, while their red beaks, a ruby red, matched the speckled color of red and maize on their chests. As if wearing a coat of emeralds, from the tips of their heads to the bottoms of their tails were brilliant green feathers.
With bodies pressed together side by side, one tilted its head to the others. They looked like love birds. Now, you know you’ve read too many paranormal books when, faced with this breathtaking sight, you wonder if the birds are not really some sort of spies meant to check out the new arrivals. I laughed, a short, high chuckle at myself, that, when Lex looked at me like I’d lost my mind, erupted into a fit giggles at my overactive mind.
“You good?” he asked, his smile crooked, cute.
“More than. Just overwhelmed by all of this beauty in one place. We’ve just stepped off the landing strip and I get that sort of welcoming committee.”
“Get used to it,” one of the werewolves who had brought us here said. He walked in front of us, leading the way, our bags attached to some sort of dolly.
“Not sure that’s possible, but please, lead the way. I can’t imagine what lies ahead,” I responded to the man.
In more ways than one
.
Lex gave my hand a little squeeze as we continued on, him practically dragging me along as I looked everywhere but at where I was going. As the path wound through the trees, I kept getting whiffs of flowers. Every time we came upon a patch at the bases of the trees, or lining the path, the petals were of the most vibrant hues. Reds to scarlet, yellows to gold, along with various deep shades of pinks and purples which were sprinkled at times with a few true whites. I didn’t need to stop and sniff them, as they fragranced the air like a light perfume being sprayed my way.
The path also must have wound around the coast, as we’d landed in the plane on a strip of land on a beach, and now the trees opened up to another side of the island overlooking the water. This time, though, the cliff that overlooked it was dotted with tiny straw-like shacks.
“You have to see this,” the other werewolf leading the way said, nodding us over closer to the edge between two of the shacks. “This is where wolves, like Lex, stay when visiting the island. But, you two will be guests at the castle this trip. Anyway, look at that view. Careful, though.”
I knew he’d been talking to me as my head scanned all around. When we got to this cliff made of jagged rocks, we stood now about five feet above the water. When we’d landed, you could have walked right into the waves. Yet, each of these two cabins we stood between seemed to have their own waterfalls, water flowing out from under the residents on stilts. Lush foliage hung over the dry rocks, some leading all the way to the clear blue water below. The fish were again colorful, and even from this height you could see, like tiny streaks of color, their movement through the ocean. There was going to be so much to explore here in our free time.
“I have the urge to jump right in that water. It looks so inviting,” I mused out loud.
“Is she a daredevil?” One of the pilots inquired of Lex.
“I don’t think she was before meeting me,” he said with a light laugh, shaking his head as if I were a wayward individual bent on trouble.
“I would never have called myself even so much as an adventurer, but finding you are magical, have a werewolf guardian, fighting in battles, coming here... it can change a girl. Something is flowing through me, like excitement, and I do in fact want to try new things.”
“Look out,” one of the pilots said to Lex, nudging him, giving me the impression they’d met before and had some sort of comradery.
“You guys know each other?” I inquired.
“Sure,” Lex said. “Kirk here trained with Riker and I. The training, it definitely bonds you. Not that it’s bad, like the military or anything, but it is different, and in the adjustment, as your body changes and you learn to use it, even if for only a year, it is like growing up together as brothers. In fact, Kirk and I stayed two cabins down from here while we were training.”
“I consider Lex a brother,” Kirk added, “but then, we have a pack mentality, so I consider each wolf my brother.”
“Magical connections are different, as you have experienced with me, and you will with the Royals once you meet them,” Lex said, his hand playing in my hair before rubbing my back. “But, we better get going. No time now to test out those new daredevil whims right now.”
I did want to explore, to play, of course, not now, but later; that was, if there was to be any free time. I’d not been told how long we were staying or given any indication as to a schedule of my time while here. I assumed I wouldn’t have any say in the matter, but seeing this, even for this one breathless moment, was better than having never seen it before. I couldn’t imagine living in such a place my whole life. My mind went to Vivian. I tried to focus on the fact that she’d had the blessing of being raised in such a place even if she now couldn’t return to it. Of course, wherever we went after this life, paradise had to be much like this.
A girl who had lost her mother at a young age, I’d never come to any conclusions about the whole after-life thing. Thought it to death, yes, but made up my mind, not even close. Still, for my mom, my dad, and now Vivian and Riker, I wanted whatever the place was to look like this. It was that perfectly amazing, giving new meaning to the word ‘breathtaking’.
“We better get going. As soon as we get to the crest of this hill, the trees will open up to the castle,” one of our guides said, giving me a little wink, as I’d still not moved from my spot overlooking the water. I assumed it was his way of telling me bigger and better was to come.
I figured I’d better watch my reactions, or my mouth wouldn’t just be hanging open by the time I met the Royals, but I’d be drooling as well. It didn’t take us long to get there, just past about another half-dozen houses. At his point, the trees gave way to an open expanse of land all the way to another coastline about three hundred feet away. The large castle rose up against the white sand and blue sea. Its stone structure made of light beige stones was capped by some sort of reddish-orange roof.
Towers rose up around the keep. I assumed that from those you could see the whole of the island. I hoped I would get the chance to pretend to be a princess for a moment and actually stand in one. The whole of the building that sprawled across the land had many uniquely shaped sections, all attached to one long rectangle that stood several stories high. I’d need a map to get around such a place alone. I’d never even seen a hotel this big in real life before, and I was from New York. Thankfully, the place was inviting, not at all dark or threatening like the medieval castles I’d seen in paintings and books.
You’re a stranger here
, I actually reminded myself, as I couldn’t get over the feeling of comfort I got, being here in such unfamiliar territory.
Maybe again, this was magic, as in mine recognizing what swirled around this land, but I felt like I’d just come home. I’d not had such a feeling since my mother had died. Something about it all made me feel like I had lived here my whole life. With open land around the stone path now, we eventually came upon a gate which just opened as we approached, without anyone apparently pressing a button or talking into an intercom. It just invited us in.
