While writing this book, I likened the process to shoveling a six-foot snow bank with a teaspoon. Anyone who lives in Minnesota can identify with this. We have overdosed on casseroles, and more than one got buried in my walk-in cooler a bit too long. I started freezing them, and when the freezer filled up, I was grateful for friends who offered to help me retrieve the space.
I want to thank especially my husband, Dick, who was my ready tester, taster, and sometimes dishwasher, and who calls himself not just a “clean plate clubber,” but also a “clean casserole clubber.” Thanks also go to many friends and family members who contributed recipes and helped test and eat these recipes. I am, because of them, most blessed.
Thanks to Jane Dystel, my patient agent, who encouraged me to write this book, and Bill LeBlond, senior editor at Chronicle Books, who not only gave me the opportunity to write this book but believed that I could actually do it in a year.
Many thanks to Amy Treadwell, project editor at Chronicle Books, who gave me the choice of sending the book in either hard copy or electronically. When I chose the electronic option, Amy aptly answered, “The trees will thank you.” And so it was that all six hundred–some pages amazingly flew across the country through the Internet. Thanks, too, to Deborah Kops for her excellent work in editing this monumental manuscript.
