Meet Our Chefs
MICHAL ADI

Michal had been aware of raw foods for many years but did not take the steps to become a 100-percent Lifefoodarian until October 2001. Her diet, Michal thought, was great. She was vegan and eating a lot of salads, whole grains and steamed vegetables and drinking plenty of fresh pressed juices. Her sugar/starch habit, however, was starting to get the best of her. Michal would feel tired after eating almost all of the time, sometimes to the point of passing out! She soon discovered she was exhibiting all the symptoms of candida.

Michal knew she had to improve her diet and that, until she did, she would not feel good regardless of how much yoga she was practicing. Michal had gone through periods of fasting and eating 80- to 90-percent raw food. She longed for the same clarity of mind and the amazing feeling of boundless energy that she had felt then. It was clear to her that she wanted to go completely raw, but she wanted to learn more about it. Michal decided to participate in a work exchange program at the Ann Wigmore foundation in New Mexico, where she learned almost everything she needed to learn to go 100-percent raw.

Michal began feeling better almost immediately but still had a few candida symptoms. It was only after reading David Wolfe’s
The Sunfood Diet Success System
that Michal understood exactly how raw and living foods would help her overcome candida. David’s book presented and organized all the information she needed in an effective and inspiring way. She understood now exactly what her body required and the specific effects of cooked and Raw/Live foods on the body. She was able to go 100-percent raw, and has been so to this day.

Raw food has enhanced every aspect of Michal’s life. Her first raw catering business, “Healing Meals on Wheels,” in Key West, Florida, was a huge success. She was able to experience the powerful effect of healing others through food. Being a Raw/Livefood Chef is one of her greatest pleasures. Michal loves turning people on to raw/live foods and watching their faces light up as they enjoy a
delicious uncooked meal. Since relocating to New York, she has been catering raw/live food events and offering raw and life food preparation classes, seminars, and retreats. She has guided many to better health and continues to do so through her private Nutritional Advising practice where she helps people make the transition to a diet of Raw/Live foods.

Since going completely raw, Michal’s yoga/spiritual practice is deeper, she does not need as much sleep and she feels able to attain all of her personal goals. As a teacher of both Vinyasa and Kundalini yoga, Michal finds the philosophies of Raw/Life foods and yoga to be complementary. Michal believes that when we increase the life-force in our bodies—from within, through yoga practice, and from without, through the food that we eat—we become more flexible in body and mind and can experience a state of heightened awareness and expanded consciousness. Michal feels that her body is a tool through which she is able to connect with the universe and experience joy, peace and bliss.

STEPHEN ARLIN

Stephen Arlin became a Raw-Foodist over eight years ago.

“It was hard at first because cooked food is addictive and getting over any addiction is tough,” Stephen says. “But it was well worth the effort…I see the world much more clearly now. Every day is a great day.”

Since going 100-percent raw, Stephen has shed 51 unwanted, unhealthy pounds and has since then gained back 45 pounds of healthy, solid muscle. Stephen is an expert on natural body-building, and his unique training workouts and fitness philosophies are outlined in his latest book,
Raw Power!

“All living organisms on planet Earth are designed to nourish themselves with raw nutrition,” Stephen says. “Humans are certainly no exception. A raw-foodist is not something you become; it is something that you already are. Every
single natural organism on the planet is born to eat exclusively raw foods. It transcends all diets; it is simply the natural way to nourish your body.”

In 1996, Stephen co-founded Nature’s First Law along with his partners, David Wolfe and R.C. Dini. As the world’s largest distributor of raw food products, books, equipment, and organic foods, Nature’s First Law continues to help hundreds of people each year adopt and maintain the living foods diet (
www.rawfood.com
).

Stephen is co-author of several innovative and controversial books on the raw food lifestyle, including
Nature’s First Law: The Raw-Food Diet
, which offers a complete philosophy of natural nutrition.

JACKIE AYALA AND DAVID STEINBERG

David is a gourmet raw food chef with 18-plus years of professional food preparation experience. After studying with professional chefs of Italian, Chinese, Mexican, and American cuisine for over 15 years, and being employed as a pastry chef, sous-chef, bread baker, and chef all over the world, he switched his talents and energies to the field of living food art. He’s been living the raw life for 5 years. David feels that it is possible to plug directly into the source and channel the “Living Foods Diva” to achieve easy recipe-free gourmet cuisine.

Jackie has been an avid student of health, nutrition, and cuisine for 15 years. A life of traveling, taking antibiotics, and working as a flight attendant for 10 years compromised her immune system and weakened her kidneys. Knowing it was possible to heal all illness naturally, she came upon the raw food diet and felt better than ever. She has been 100 percent raw for two years. She has spent time with Gabriel Cousens at the Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center kitchen, and learned about raw food preparation under the experienced instruction of Renee Underkoffler (author of
The Raw Truth
).
