In general, choose whole fruits and vegetables to get the bulk, and slow digestion. Fruit that has been pulverized in smoothies will contribute to a “sugar rush,” which is

something most of us want to avoid. (In a blender, the fruit fiber is pulverized,

significantly reducing its effectiveness, and the sugar is released from the fruit cells, making it much easier to absorb quickly. A little of this happens during chewing, but not at all to the extent that it does when fruit is blended.) Limit smoothies to special occasions or avoid altogether.
