“Yes, sir.” He sat on a barstool and Mr. Cooper took the other.

“You can call me Davis since you’re marrying my daughter.”

“Yes, s- I mean, Davis.” He cleared his throat. “I would have asked you for her hand but-”

Davis waved that aside. “I knew it was only a matter of time when I met you. You were so obviously taken with my daughter. My only qualm is that the two of you have been dating for a relatively short period of time.”

Greg swallowed. “
Sir, Davis, I really love your daughter. More and more every day.”

“She’s high maintenance,” Davis warned.

He laughed.
He knew high maintenance. Being with Mykal didn’t even compare to the ordeal he’d experienced with Daria. “I’m aware that she loves to shop and that she’s not willing to leave the house unless her nails match her outfit. She’s the worst gamer I’ve ever met.” In order for her to better understand what he did, he’d tried to get her interested in games. So far, they hadn’t discovered a game she couldn’t lose within minutes. “She refuses to watch any movie longer than two hours. I still can’t get her to update the software on her computer. I invariably have to do it for her. And I’ll be happy to do it for her for the rest of our lives.”

Davis nodded. “I just wanted to make sure you knew what you were getting into.” He slid off his barstool. He rounded the countertop and went into the fridge. He withdrew a platter of hors oeuvres. “Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Once you’re married to her, we’re not taking her back.”

“Daddy, I heard that,” Mykal said as she entered the kitchen. “Mom is wondering where you are with those. You better get out there.”

“I’m going.”

Greg turned on his barstool and pulled Mykal between his thighs. She wrapped her arms around his neck and fingered the hair at the nape of his neck. “Daddy wasn’t too hard on you, was he?”

“He’s concerned that we might be rushing into this.”

“You don’t feel that way, do you?”

He tightened his arms around her. “Are you kidding? No way. I’d marry you tomorrow if I could.” She kissed him, scattering his thoughts. Her tongue stroked over his and he sucked it. She tasted of the champagne they’d been serving tonight. He groaned when she rubbed up against his rapidly hardening groin.

“Good grief!” Tania expelled from the doorway. “You two will have plenty of time for that later. This is your engagement party. Get back out here.” She disappeared and then leaned back into the room. “Don’t make me come in here again,” she warned.

Mykal laughed. “I guess we’d better rejoin the party.
Later?”

He kissed the tip of her nose. “Definitely.”
She took his hand in hers and led him back out to the den where their friends were gathered. Her engagement ring, a modest half carat princess cut pink diamond, pressed into his palm. He’d been nervous about how she would react to such a small stone, but she’d loved it. Pink was her favorite color. The way she’d kissed him after that had told him that the ring didn’t matter. She was just happy to be marrying him. A gamer. A geek. A guy who blushed easily. And it was the greatest feeling in the world to be loved and accepted for who he was.
