Psalm 89:38-52

38
But thou [God] hast cast off and abhorred, thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.

39
Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his crown
by casting it
to the ground.

40
Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin.

41
All that pass by the way spoil him: he is a reproach to his neighbours.

42
Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.

43
Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.

44
Thou hast made his glory to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground.

45
The days of his youth hast thou shortened: thou hast covered him with shame. Selah.

46
 How long, L
ORD
? wilt thou hide thyself for ever? shall thy wrath burn like fire?

47
Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain?

48
 What man
is he that
liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.

49
 Lord, where
are
thy former lovingkindnesses,
which
thou swarest unto David in thy truth?

50
 Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants;
how
I do bear in my bosom
the reproach of
all the mighty people;

51
Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O L
ORD
; wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.

52
 Blessed
be
the L
ORD
for evermore. Amen, and Amen.

Proverbs 13:20-23

20
 He that walketh with wise
men
shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

21
Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.

22
 A good
man
leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner
is
laid up for the just.

23
 Much food
is in
the tillage of the poor: but there is
that is
destroyed for want of judgment.

Judges 1:1–2:9

1
Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the L
ORD
, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

2
 And the L
ORD
said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

3
And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.
4
And Judah went up; and the L
ORD
delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
5
And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
6
But Adoni-bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.

7
And Adoni-bezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered
their meat
under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

8
Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
9
And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.
10
And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before
was
Kirjath-arba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

11
And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before
was
Kirjath-sepher:

12
And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.
13
And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.
14
And it came to pass, when she came
to him,
that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off
her
ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?

15
And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.

16
And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which
lieth
in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.
17
And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.
18
Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.
19
 And the L
ORD
was with Judah; and he drave out
the inhabitants of
the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
20
And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.
21
And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.

22
And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: and the L
ORD
was
with them.
23
And the house of Joseph sent to descry Bethel. (Now the name of the city before
was
Luz.)
24
And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy.
25
And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.
26
And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which
is
the name thereof unto this day.

27
 Neither did Manasseh drive out
the inhabitants of
Beth-shean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
28
And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.

29
Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.
30
Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.
31
Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:
32
but the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.
33
Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became tributaries unto them.
34
And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:
35
but the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.
36
And the coast of the Amorites
was
from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.

2:
1
And an angel of the L
ORD
came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.
2
And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?
3
Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be
as thorns
in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.
4
And it came to pass, when the angel of the L
ORD
spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.

5
And they called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there unto the L
ORD
.
6
And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land.

7
And the people served the L
ORD
all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the L
ORD
, that he did for Israel.
8
And Joshua, the son of Nun, the servant of the L
ORD
, died,
being
an hundred and ten years old.
9
And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash.

Luke 21:29–22:13

29
 And he [Jesus] spake to them a parable;
Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;
30

when they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.
31

So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.
32

Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.
33

Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

34

And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and
so
that day come upon you unawares.
35

For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
36

Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

37
And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called
the mount
of Olives.
38
And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, for to hear him.

22:
1
Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.
2
And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.

3
Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.
4
And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.
5
And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.
6
And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.

7
Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.
8
And he sent Peter and John, saying,
Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.

9
And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?

10
 And he said unto them,
Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.
11

And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
12

And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.
13
And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
