 As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.
26
 And it shall come to pass,
that
in the place where it was said unto them, Ye
are
not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.
27
 Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:
28
 for he will finish the work, and cut
it
short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.
29
 And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha.
30
 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.
31
 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.
32
 Wherefore? Because
they sought it
not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;
33
 as it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
10:
1
 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.
2
 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
3
 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
4
 For Christ
is
the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
5
 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.
6
 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down
from above:
)
7
 or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)
8
 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee,
even
in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9
 that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10
 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11
 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12
 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13
 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

 The L
ORD
hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee;
2
 Send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion;
3
 Remember all thy offerings, and accept thy burnt sacrifice; Selah.
4
 Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel.
5
 We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up
our
banners: the L
ORD
fulfil all thy petitions.
6
 Now know I that the L
ORD
saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.
7
 Some
trust
in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the L
ORD
our God.
8
 They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.
9
 Save, L
ORD
: let the king hear us when we call.

 The fear of a king
is
as the roaring of a lion:
whoso
provoketh him to anger sinneth
against
his own soul.

It is
an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.

 And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.
2
 And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the L
ORD
? therefore
is
wrath upon thee from before the L
ORD
.
3
 Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seek God.
4
 And Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem: and he went out again through the people from Beer-sheba to mount Ephraim, and brought them back unto the L
ORD
God of their fathers.
5
 And he set judges in the land throughout all the fenced cities of Judah, city by city,
6
 and said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the L
ORD
, who
is
with you in the judgment.
7
 Wherefore now let the fear of the L
ORD
be upon you; take heed and do
it:
for
there is
no iniquity with the L
ORD
our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.
8
 Moreover in Jerusalem did Jehoshaphat set of the Levites, and
of
the priests, and of the chief of the fathers of Israel, for the judgment of the L
ORD
, and for controversies, when they returned to Jerusalem.
9
 And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the L
ORD
, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.
10
 And what cause soever shall come to you of your brethren that dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and judgments, ye shall even warn them that they trespass not against the L
ORD
, and
so
wrath come upon you, and upon your brethren: this do, and ye shall not trespass.
11
 And, behold, Amariah the chief priest
is
over you in all matters of the L
ORD
; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king's matters: also the Levites
shall be
officers before you. Deal courageously, and the L
ORD
shall be with the good.
20:
1
 It came to pass after this also,
that
the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them
other
beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.
2
 Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they
be
in Hazazon-tamar, which
is
En-gedi.
3
 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the L
ORD
, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
4
 And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask
help
of the L
ORD
: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the L
ORD
.
5
 And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the L
ORD
, before the new court,
6
 and said, O L
ORD
God of our fathers,
art
not thou God in heaven? and rulest
not
thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand
is there not
power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?
7
Â
Art
not thou our God,
who
didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?
8
 And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,
9
 If,
when
evil cometh upon us,
as
the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name
is
in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.
10
 And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;
11
 behold,
I say, how
they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.
12
 O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes
are
upon thee.
13
 And all Judah stood before the L
ORD
, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.
14
 Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the L
ORD
in the midst of the congregation;
15
 and he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the L
ORD
unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle
is
not yours, but God's.
16
 Tomorrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
17
 Ye shall not
need
to fight in this
battle:
set yourselves, stand ye
still,
and see the salvation of the L
ORD
with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them: for the L
ORD
will be
with you.
18
 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with
his
face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the L
ORD
, worshipping the L
ORD
.
19
 And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the L
ORD
God of Israel with a loud voice on high.
20
 And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the L
ORD
your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
21
 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the L
ORD
, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the L
ORD
; for his mercy
endureth
for ever.
22
 And when they began to sing and to praise, the L
ORD
set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.
23
 For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy
them:
and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.
24
 And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they
were
dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.
25
 And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.
26
 And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the L
ORD
: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.
27
 Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the L
ORD
had made them to rejoice over their enemies.
28
 And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the L
ORD
.
29
 And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of
those
countries, when they had heard that the L
ORD
fought against the enemies of Israel.
30
 So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round about.
31
 And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah:
he was
thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name
was
Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
32
 And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing
that which was
right in the sight of the L
ORD
.
33
 Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.
34
 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they
are
written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, who
is
mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel.
35
 And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:
36
 and he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Ezion-gaber.
37
 Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the L
ORD
hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.
