1 Corinthians 9:1-18

1
Am I [Paul] not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord?
2
If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.

3
Mine answer to them that do examine me is this,
4
Have we not power to eat and to drink?
5
Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and
as
the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?
6
Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working?
7
Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?

8
Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also?
9
For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?
10
 Or saith he
it
altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt,
this
is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.

11
If we have sown unto you spiritual things,
is it
a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?
12
 If others be partakers of
this
power over you,
are
not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.

13
Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live
of the things
of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?
14
Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.

15
But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for
it were
better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.
16
For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!
17
For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation
of the gospel
is committed unto me.
18
 What is my reward then?
Verily
that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

Psalm 33:12-22

12
 Blessed
is
the nation whose God
is
the L
ORD
;
and
the people
whom
he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

13
 The L
ORD
looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men.

14
From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth.

15
He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works.

16
There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.

17
 An horse
is
a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver
any
by his great strength.

18
Behold, the eye of the L
ORD
is
upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;

19
To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

20
Our soul waiteth for the L
ORD
: he
is
our help and our shield.

21
For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.

22
 Let thy mercy, O L
ORD
, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.

Proverbs 21:11-12

11
When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.

12
 The righteous
man
wisely considereth the house of the wicked:
but God
overthroweth the wicked for
their
wickedness.

Nehemiah 9:22–10:39

22
 Moreover thou [the L
ORD
] gavest them [Israel] kingdoms and nations, and didst divide them into corners: so they possessed the land of Sihon, and the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan.

23
Their children also multipliedst thou as the stars of heaven, and broughtest them into the land, concerning which thou hadst promised to their fathers, that they should go in to possess
it.

24
So the children went in and possessed the land, and thou subduedst before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and gavest them into their hands, with their kings, and the people of the land, that they might do with them as they would.

25
And they took strong cities, and a fat land, and possessed houses full of all goods, wells digged, vineyards, and oliveyards, and fruit trees in abundance: so they did eat, and were filled, and became fat, and delighted themselves in thy great goodness.

26
Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations.

27
Therefore thou deliveredst them into the hand of their enemies, who vexed them: and in the time of their trouble, when they cried unto thee, thou heardest
them
from heaven; and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the hand of their enemies.

28
But after they had rest, they did evil again before thee: therefore leftest thou them in the hand of their enemies, so that they had the dominion over them: yet when they returned, and cried unto thee, thou heardest
them
from heaven; and many times didst thou deliver them according to thy mercies;

29
And testifiedst against them, that thou mightest bring them again unto thy law: yet they dealt proudly, and hearkened not unto thy commandments, but sinned against thy judgments, (which if a man do, he shall live in them;) and withdrew the shoulder, and hardened their neck, and would not hear.

30
Yet many years didst thou forbear them, and testifiedst against them by thy spirit in thy prophets: yet would they not give ear: therefore gavest thou them into the hand of the people of the lands.

31
Nevertheless for thy great mercies' sake thou didst not utterly consume them, nor forsake them; for thou
art
a gracious and merciful God.

32
Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who keepest covenant and mercy, let not all the trouble seem little before thee, that hath come upon us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all thy people, since the time of the kings of Assyria unto this day.

33
 Howbeit thou
art
just in all that is brought upon us; for thou hast done right, but we have done wickedly:

34
Neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our fathers, kept thy law, nor hearkened unto thy commandments and thy testimonies, wherewith thou didst testify against them.

35
For they have not served thee in their kingdom, and in thy great goodness that thou gavest them, and in the large and fat land which thou gavest before them, neither turned they from their wicked works.

36
 Behold, we
are
servants this day, and
for
the land that thou gavest unto our fathers to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof, behold, we
are
servants in it:

37
And it yieldeth much increase unto the kings whom thou hast set over us because of our sins: also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure, and we
are
in great distress.

38
And because of all this we make a sure
covenant,
and write
it;
and our princes, Levites,
and
priests, seal
unto it.

10:
1
 Now those that sealed
were,
Nehemiah, the Tirshatha, the son of Hachaliah, and Zidkijah,
2
 Seraiah, Azariah, Jeremiah,
3
 Pashur, Amariah, Malchijah,
4
 Hattush, Shebaniah, Malluch,
5
 Harim, Meremoth, Obadiah,
6
 Daniel, Ginnethon, Baruch,
7
 Meshullam, Abijah, Mijamin,
8
 Maaziah, Bilgai, Shemaiah: these
were
the priests.
9
 And the Levites: both Jeshua the son of Azaniah, Binnui of the sons of Henadad, Kadmiel;
10
and their brethren, Shebaniah, Hodijah, Kelita, Pelaiah, Hanan,
11
 Micha, Rehob, Hashabiah,
12
 Zaccur, Sherebiah, Shebaniah,
13
 Hodijah, Bani, Beninu.
14
The chief of the people; Parosh, Pahath-moab, Elam, Zatthu, Bani,
15
 Bunni, Azgad, Bebai,
16
 Adonijah, Bigvai, Adin,
17
 Ater, Hizkijah, Azzur,
18
 Hodijah, Hashum, Bezai,
19
 Hariph, Anathoth, Nebai,
20
 Magpiash, Meshullam, Hezir,
21
 Meshezabeel, Zadok, Jaddua,
22
 Pelatiah, Hanan, Anaiah,
23
 Hoshea, Hananiah, Hashub,
24
 Hallohesh, Pileha, Shobek,
25
 Rehum, Hashabnah, Maaseiah,
26
 and Ahijah, Hanan, Anan,
27
 Malluch, Harim, Baanah.

28
 And the rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the porters, the singers, the Nethinims, and all they that had separated themselves from the people of the lands unto the law of God, their wives, their sons, and their daughters, every one having knowledge, and having understanding;
29
they clave to their brethren, their nobles, and entered into a curse, and into an oath, to walk in God's law, which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the L
ORD
our Lord, and his judgments and his statutes;
30
and that we would not give our daughters unto the people of the land, nor take their daughters for our sons:
31
 and
if
the people of the land bring ware or any victuals on the sabbath day to sell,
that
we would not buy it of them on the sabbath, or on the holy day: and
that
we would leave the seventh year, and the exaction of every debt.

32
 Also we made ordinances for us, to charge ourselves yearly with the third part of a shekel for the service of the house of our God;
33
for the shewbread, and for the continual meat offering, and for the continual burnt offering, of the sabbaths, of the new moons, for the set feasts, and for the holy
things,
and for the sin offerings to make an atonement for Israel, and
for
all the work of the house of our God.

34
And we cast the lots among the priests, the Levites, and the people, for the wood offering, to bring
it
into the house of our God, after the houses of our fathers, at times appointed year by year, to burn upon the altar of the L
ORD
our God, as
it is
written in the law:
35
and to bring the firstfruits of our ground, and the firstfruits of all fruit of all trees, year by year, unto the house of the L
ORD
:
36
also the firstborn of our sons, and of our cattle, as
it is
written in the law, and the firstlings of our herds and of our flocks, to bring to the house of our God, unto the priests that minister in the house of our God:
37
 and
that
we should bring the firstfruits of our dough, and our offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, of wine and of oil, unto the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and the tithes of our ground unto the Levites, that the same Levites might have the tithes in all the cities of our tillage.
38
And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take tithes: and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes unto the house of our God, to the chambers, into the treasure house.
39
For the children of Israel and the children of Levi shall bring the offering of the corn, of the new wine, and the oil, unto the chambers, where
are
the vessels of the sanctuary, and the priests that minister, and the porters, and the singers: and we will not forsake the house of our God.
