Philippians 1:1-26

1
Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:
2
 grace
be
unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and
from
the Lord Jesus Christ.

3
I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,
4
always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,
5
 for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;
6
being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform
it
until the day of Jesus Christ:
7
even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.
8
For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.

9
And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and
in
all judgment;
10
 that ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;
11
being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

12
But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things
which happened
unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;
13
so that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other
places;
14
and many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.

15
Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:
16
the one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:
17
but the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.
18
What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

19
For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
20
according to my earnest expectation and
my
hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but
that
with all boldness, as always,
so
now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether
it be
by life, or by death.
21
 For to me to live
is
Christ, and to die
is
gain.
22
But if I live in the flesh, this
is
the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.
23
For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:
24
nevertheless to abide in the flesh
is
more needful for you.
25
 And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;
26
that your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.

Psalm 71:1-24

1
 In thee, O L
ORD
, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion.

2
Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape: incline thine ear unto me, and save me.

3
Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou
art
my rock and my fortress.

4
Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.

5
 For thou
art
my hope, O Lord G
OD
:
thou art
my trust from my youth.

6
By thee have I been holden up from the womb: thou art he that took me out of my mother's bowels: my praise
shall be
continually of thee.

7
I am as a wonder unto many; but thou
art
my strong refuge.

8
 Let my mouth be filled
with
thy praise
and with
thy honour all the day.

9
Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth.

10
For mine enemies speak against me; and they that lay wait for my soul take counsel together,

11
Saying, God hath forsaken him: persecute and take him; for
there is
none to deliver
him.

12
O God, be not far from me: O my God, make haste for my help.

13
 Let them be confounded
and
consumed that are adversaries to my soul; let them be covered
with
reproach and dishonour that seek my hurt.

14
But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more.

15
My mouth shall shew forth thy righteousness
and
thy salvation all the day; for I know not the numbers
thereof.

16
I will go in the strength of the Lord G
OD
: I will make mention of thy righteousness,
even
of thine only.

17
O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works.

18
Now also when I am old and greyheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto
this
generation,
and
thy power to every one
that
is to come.

19
 Thy righteousness also, O God,
is
very high, who hast done great things: O God, who
is
like unto thee!

20

Thou,
which hast shewed me great and sore troubles, shalt quicken me again, and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth.

21
Thou shalt increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side.

22
I will also praise thee with the psaltery,
even
thy truth, O my God: unto thee will I sing with the harp, O thou Holy One of Israel.

23
My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed.

24
My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded, for they are brought unto shame, that seek my hurt.

Proverbs 24:9-10

9
 The thought of foolishness
is
sin: and the scorner
is
an abomination to men.

10

If
thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength
is
small.

Isaiah 60:1–62:5

1
Arise, shine; for thy [Israel's] light is come, and the glory of the L
ORD
is risen upon thee.

2
For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the L
ORD
shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.

3
And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

4
Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at
thy
side.

5
Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.

6
The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall shew forth the praises of the L
ORD
.

7
All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee: they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, and I will glorify the house of my glory.

8
 Who
are
these
that
fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows?

9
Surely the isles shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring thy sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, unto the name of the L
ORD
thy God, and to the Holy One of Israel, because he hath glorified thee.

10
And the sons of strangers shall build up thy walls, and their kings shall minister unto thee: for in my wrath I smote thee, but in my favour have I had mercy on thee.

11
Therefore thy gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that
men
may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, and
that
their kings
may be
brought.

12
For the nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; yea,
those
nations shall be utterly wasted.

13
The glory of Lebanon shall come unto thee, the fir tree, the pine tree, and the box together, to beautify the place of my sanctuary; and I will make the place of my feet glorious.

14
The sons also of them that afflicted thee shall come bending unto thee; and all they that despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet; and they shall call thee, The city of the L
ORD
, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

15
Whereas thou hast been forsaken and hated, so that no man went through
thee,
I will make thee an eternal excellency, a joy of many generations.

16
Thou shalt also suck the milk of the Gentiles, and shalt suck the breast of kings: and thou shalt know that I the L
ORD
am
thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.

17
For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron: I will also make thy officers peace, and thine exactors righteousness.

18
Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.

19
The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the L
ORD
shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.

20
Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the L
ORD
shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.

21
 Thy people also
shall be
all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.

22
A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the L
ORD
will hasten it in his time.

61:
1
The Spirit of the Lord G
OD
is
upon me; because the L
ORD
hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to
them that are
bound;

2
To proclaim the acceptable year of the L
ORD
, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

3
To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the L
ORD
, that he might be glorified.

4
And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.

5
And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien
shall be
your plowmen and your vinedressers.

6
But ye shall be named the Priests of the L
ORD
:
men
shall call you the Ministers of our God: ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast yourselves.

7
 For your shame
ye shall have
double; and
for
confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them.

8
 For I the L
ORD
love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.

9
And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people: all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they
are
the seed
which
the L
ORD
hath blessed.

10
I will greatly rejoice in the L
ORD
, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh
himself
with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth
herself
with her jewels.

11
For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord G
OD
will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

62:
1
For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp
that
burneth.

2
And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the L
ORD
shall name.

3
Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the L
ORD
, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God.

4
Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate: but thou shalt be called Hephzi-bah, and thy land Beulah: for the L
ORD
delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married.

5
 For
as
a young man marrieth a virgin,
so
shall thy sons marry thee: and
as
the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride,
so
shall thy God rejoice over thee.
