 And his [Jesus'] disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?
11
 And Jesus answered and said unto them,
Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.

But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
13
 Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.
14
 And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a
certain
man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
15
 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is a lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
16
 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
17
 Then Jesus answered and said,
O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
18
 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
19
 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
20
 And Jesus said unto them,
Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

 And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them,
The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:

and they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again.
And they were exceeding sorry.
24
 And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute
money
came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?
25
 He saith, Yes.
And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying,
What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?
26
 Peter saith unto him, Of strangers.
Jesus saith unto him,
Then are the children free.

Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.

 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
why art thou so
far from helping me,
and from
the words of my roaring?

 O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.

 But thou
art
holy,
O thou
that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

 Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.

 They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.

 But I
am
a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.

 All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head,

he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.

art
he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope

 I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou
art
my God from my mother's belly.

 Be not far from me; for trouble
is
near; for
there is
none to help.

 Many bulls have compassed me: strong
bulls
of Bashan have beset me round.

 They gaped upon me
with
their mouths,
as
a ravening and a roaring lion.
14
 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.
15
 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.
16
 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.

 I may tell all my bones: they look
and
stare upon me.
18
 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.

 Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.

 Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:

 Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
10
 Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours
be
in the house of a stranger;
11
 And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
12
 And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
13
 And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
14
 I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.

 And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The L
ORD
hath not appeared unto thee.

 And the L
ORD
said unto him, What
is
that in thine hand?
And he said, A rod.
3
 And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.
4
 And the L
ORD
said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:
5
 that they may believe that the L
ORD
God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.
6
 And the L
ORD
said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand
was
leprous as snow.
7
 And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his
other
flesh.
8
 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.
9
 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour
it
upon the dry
land:
and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry
land.

 And Moses said unto the L
ORD
, O my Lord, I
am
not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I
am
slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
11
 And the L
ORD
said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the L
ORD
?
12
 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.
13
 And he said, O my L
ORD
, send, I pray thee, by the hand
of him whom
thou wilt send.
14
 And the anger of the L
ORD
was kindled against Moses, and he said,
Is
not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.
15
 And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.
16
 And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be,
even
he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.
17
 And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.
18
 And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which
are
in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive.
And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.
19
 And the L
ORD
said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt: for all the men are dead which sought thy life.
20
 And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.
21
 And the L
ORD
said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.
22
 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the L
ORD
, Israel
is
my son,
even
my firstborn:
23
 and I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son,
even
thy firstborn.
24
 And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the L
ORD
met him, and sought to kill him.
25
 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast
it
at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband
art
thou to me.
26
 So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband
thou art,
because of the circumcision.
27
 And the L
ORD
said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him in the mount of God, and kissed him.
28
 And Moses told Aaron all the words of the L
ORD
who had sent him, and all the signs which he had commanded him.
29
 And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel:
30
 and Aaron spake all the words which the L
ORD
had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people.
31
 And the people believed: and when they heard that the L
ORD
had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.

 And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the L
ORD
God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.
2
 And Pharaoh said, Who
is
the L
ORD
, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the L
ORD
, neither will I let Israel go.
3
 And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the L
ORD
our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.
4
 And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.
5
 And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now
are
many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.
6
 And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,
7
 Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.
8
 And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish
aught
thereof: for they
be
idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go
and
sacrifice to our God.
9
 Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.
10
 And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.
11
 Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it: yet not aught of your work shall be diminished.
12
 So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw.
13
 And the taskmasters hasted
them,
saying, Fulfil your works,
your
daily tasks, as when there was straw.
14
 And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten,
and
demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and today, as heretofore?
15
 Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?
16
 There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants
are
beaten; but the fault
is
in thine own people.
17
 But he said, Ye
are
idle,
ye are
idle: therefore ye say, Let us go
and
do sacrifice to the L
ORD
.
18
 Go therefore now,
and
work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks.
19
 And the officers of the children of Israel did see
that
they
were
in evil
case,
after it was said, Ye shall not minish
aught
from your bricks of your daily task.
20
 And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh:
21
 and they said unto them, The L
ORD
look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.
