Mark 7:1-23

1
Then came together unto him [Jesus] the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem.
2
And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault.
3
For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash
their
hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.
4
 And
when they come
from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold,
as
the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.
5
Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?

6
He answered and said unto them,
Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with
their
lips, but their heart is far from me.
7

Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching
for
doctrines the commandments of men.
8

For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men,
as
the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.

9
 And he said unto them,
Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
10

For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:
11

but ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother,
It is
Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;
he shall be free.
12

And ye suffer him no more to do aught for his father or his mother;
13

making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

14
And when he had called all the people
unto him,
he said unto them,
Hearken unto me every one
of you,
and understand:
15

there is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.
16

If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

17
And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.
18
 And he saith unto them,
Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man,
it
cannot defile him;
19

because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?

20
 And he said,
That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.
21

For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
22

thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
23

all these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

Psalm 40:11-17

11
Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O L
ORD
: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.

12
For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me.

13
 Be pleased, O L
ORD
, to deliver me: O L
ORD
, make haste to help me.

14
Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil.

15
Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame that say unto me, Aha, aha.

16
Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The L
ORD
be magnified.

17
 But I
am
poor and needy;
yet
the Lord thinketh upon me: thou
art
my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.

Proverbs 10:13-14

13
In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod
is
for the back of him that is void of understanding.

14
 Wise
men
lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish
is
near destruction.

Leviticus 16:29–18:30

29
 And
this
shall be a statute for ever unto you [Israel]:
that
in the seventh month, on the tenth
day
of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all,
whether it be
one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you:
30
 for on that day shall
the priest
make an atonement for you, to cleanse you,
that
ye may be clean from all your sins before the L
ORD
.
31
 It
shall be
a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever.
32
And the priest, whom he shall anoint, and whom he shall consecrate to minister in the priest's office in his father's stead, shall make the atonement, and shall put on the linen clothes,
even
the holy garments:
33
and he shall make an atonement for the holy sanctuary, and he shall make an atonement for the tabernacle of the congregation, and for the altar, and he shall make an atonement for the priests, and for all the people of the congregation.
34
And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. And he did as the L
ORD
commanded Moses.

17:
1
 And the L
ORD
spake unto Moses, saying,
2
Speak unto Aaron, and unto his sons, and unto all the children of Israel, and say unto them; This
is
the thing which the L
ORD
hath commanded, saying,
3
 What man soever
there be
of the house of Israel, that killeth an ox, or lamb, or goat, in the camp, or that killeth
it
out of the camp,
4
and bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to offer an offering unto the L
ORD
before the tabernacle of the L
ORD
; blood shall be imputed unto that man; he hath shed blood; and that man shall be cut off from among his people:
5
to the end that the children of Israel may bring their sacrifices, which they offer in the open field, even that they may bring them unto the L
ORD
, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest, and offer them
for
peace offerings unto the L
ORD
.
6
And the priest shall sprinkle the blood upon the altar of the L
ORD
at
the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and burn the fat for a sweet savour unto the L
ORD
.
7
And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils, after whom they have gone a whoring. This shall be a statute for ever unto them throughout their generations.
8
And thou shalt say unto them, Whatsoever man
there be
of the house of Israel, or of the strangers which sojourn among you, that offereth a burnt offering or sacrifice,
9
and bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to offer it unto the L
ORD
; even that man shall be cut off from among his people.

10
 And whatsoever man
there be
of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people.
11
For the life of the flesh
is
in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it
is
the blood
that
maketh an atonement for the soul.
12
Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood.

13
 And whatsoever man
there be
of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust.
14
 For
it is
the life of all flesh; the blood of it
is
for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh
is
the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.

15
And every soul that eateth that which died
of itself,
or that which was torn
with beasts, whether it be
one of your own country, or a stranger, he shall both wash his clothes, and bathe
himself
in water, and be unclean until the even: then shall he be clean.
16
 But if he wash
them
not, nor bathe his flesh; then he shall bear his iniquity.

18:
1
 And the L
ORD
spake unto Moses, saying,
2
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, I am the L
ORD
your God.
3
After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances.
4
Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I
am
the L
ORD
your God.
5
Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I
am
the L
ORD
.

6
None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover
their
nakedness: I
am
the L
ORD
.
7
The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she
is
thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.
8
The nakedness of thy father's wife shalt thou not uncover: it
is
thy father's nakedness.
9
The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or daughter of thy mother,
whether she be
born at home, or born abroad,
even
their nakedness thou shalt not uncover.
10
The nakedness of thy son's daughter, or of thy daughter's daughter,
even
their nakedness thou shalt not uncover: for theirs
is
thine own nakedness.
11
The nakedness of thy father's wife's daughter, begotten of thy father, she
is
thy sister, thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.
12
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's sister: she
is
thy father's near kinswoman.
13
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother's sister; for she
is
thy mother's near kinswoman.
14
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's brother, thou shalt not approach to his wife: she
is
thine aunt.
15
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy daughter in law: she
is
thy son's wife; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.
16
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy brother's wife: it
is
thy brother's nakedness.
17
 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son's daughter, or her daughter's daughter, to uncover her nakedness;
for
they
are
her near kinswomen: it
is
wickedness.
18
Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to vex
her,
to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life
time.

19
Also thou shalt not approach unto a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is put apart for her uncleanness.
20
Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour's wife, to defile thyself with her.
21
And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through
the fire
to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I
am
the L
ORD
.
22
Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it
is
abomination.
23
Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it
is
confusion.

24
Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you:
25
and the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.
26
Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit
any
of these abominations;
neither
any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you:
27
(for all these abominations have the men of the land done, which
were
before you, and the land is defiled;)
28
that the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that
were
before you.
29
For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit
them
shall be cut off from among their people.

30
Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that
ye
commit not
any one
of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I
am
the L
ORD
your God.
