Mark 14:53-72

53
And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.
54
And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.

55
And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.
56
For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
57
And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,
58
We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.
59
But neither so did their witness agree together.

60
And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what
is it which
these witness against thee?
61
But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?

62
 And Jesus said,
I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

63
Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?
64
Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

65
And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

66
And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:
67
and when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.

68
But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.

69
And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is
one
of them.
70
 And he denied it again.

And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art
one
of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth
thereto.

71
But he began to curse and to swear,
saying,
I know not this man of whom ye speak.
72
And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.

Psalm 53:1-6

To the chief Musician upon Mahalath Maschil,
A Psalm
of David.

1
The fool hath said in his heart,
There is
no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity:
there is
none that doeth good.

2
God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were
any
that did understand, that did seek God.

3
 Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy;
there is
none that doeth good, no, not one.

4
Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people
as
they eat bread: they have not called upon God.

5
There were they in great fear,
where
no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth
against
thee: thou hast put
them
to shame, because God hath despised them.

6
Oh that the salvation of Israel
were come
out of Zion! When God bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice,
and
Israel shall be glad.

Proverbs 11:4

4
Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.

Numbers 15:17–16:40

17
 And the L
ORD
spake unto Moses, saying,
18
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land whither I bring you,
19
then it shall be, that, when ye eat of the bread of the land, ye shall offer up an heave offering unto the L
ORD
.
20
Ye shall offer up a cake of the first of your dough
for
an heave offering: as
ye do
the heave offering of the threshingfloor, so shall ye heave it.
21
Of the first of your dough ye shall give unto the L
ORD
an heave offering in your generations.

22
And if ye have erred, and not observed all these commandments, which the L
ORD
hath spoken unto Moses,
23

even
all that the L
ORD
hath commanded you by the hand of Moses, from the day that the L
ORD
commanded
Moses,
and henceforward among your generations;
24
 then it shall be, if
aught
be committed by ignorance without the knowledge of the congregation, that all the congregation shall offer one young bullock for a burnt offering, for a sweet savour unto the L
ORD
, with his meat offering, and his drink offering, according to the manner, and one kid of the goats for a sin offering.
25
And the priest shall make an atonement for all the congregation of the children of Israel, and it shall be forgiven them; for it
is
ignorance: and they shall bring their offering, a sacrifice made by fire unto the L
ORD
, and their sin offering before the L
ORD
, for their ignorance:
26
and it shall be forgiven all the congregation of the children of Israel, and the stranger that sojourneth among them; seeing all the people
were
in ignorance.

27
And if any soul sin through ignorance, then he shall bring a she goat of the first year for a sin offering.
28
And the priest shall make an atonement for the soul that sinneth ignorantly, when he sinneth by ignorance before the L
ORD
, to make an atonement for him; and it shall be forgiven him.
29
Ye shall have one law for him that sinneth through ignorance,
both for
him that is born among the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them.

30
 But the soul that doeth
aught
presumptuously,
whether he be
born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the L
ORD
; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
31
Because he hath despised the word of the L
ORD
, and hath broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity
shall be
upon him.

32
And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.
33
And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.
34
And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.

35
 And the L
ORD
said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.
36
And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the L
ORD
commanded Moses.

37
 And the L
ORD
spake unto Moses, saying,
38
Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue:
39
and it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the L
ORD
, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring:
40
that ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God.
41
 I
am
the L
ORD
your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I
am
the L
ORD
your God.

16:
1
Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took
men:
2
and they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:
3
and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them,
Ye take
too much upon you, seeing all the congregation
are
holy, every one of them, and the L
ORD
is
among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the L
ORD
?

4
 And when Moses heard
it,
he fell upon his face:
5
and he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even tomorrow the L
ORD
will shew who
are
his, and
who is
holy; and will cause
him
to come near unto him: even
him
whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.
6
 This do; Take you censers, Korah, and all his company;
7
and put fire therein, and put incense in them before the L
ORD
tomorrow: and it shall be
that
the man whom the L
ORD
doth choose, he
shall be
holy:
ye take
too much upon you, ye sons of Levi.

8
And Moses said unto Korah, Hear, I pray you, ye sons of Levi:
9

seemeth it but
a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the L
ORD
, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them?
10
And he hath brought thee near
to him,
and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee: and seek ye the priesthood also?
11
 For which cause
both
thou and all thy company
are
gathered together against the L
ORD
: and what
is
Aaron, that ye murmur against him?

12
And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: which said, We will not come up:
13

is it
a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except thou make thyself altogether a prince over us?
14
Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up.

15
And Moses was very wroth, and said unto the L
ORD
, Respect not thou their offering: I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them.

16
And Moses said unto Korah, Be thou and all thy company before the L
ORD
, thou, and they, and Aaron, tomorrow:
17
and take every man his censer, and put incense in them, and bring ye before the L
ORD
every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; thou also, and Aaron, each
of you
his censer.
18
And they took every man his censer, and put fire in them, and laid incense thereon, and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron.
19
And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the glory of the L
ORD
appeared unto all the congregation.

20
 And the L
ORD
spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
21
Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.

22
And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?

23
 And the L
ORD
spake unto Moses, saying,
24
Speak unto the congregation, saying, Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.

25
And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.
26
And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.
27
So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children.

28
And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that the L
ORD
hath sent me to do all these works; for
I have
not
done them
of mine own mind.
29
 If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men;
then
the L
ORD
hath not sent me.
30
 But if the L
ORD
make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that
appertain
unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the L
ORD
.

31
And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that
was
under them:
32
and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that
appertained
unto Korah, and all
their
goods.
33
 They, and all that
appertained
to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.
34
 And all Israel that
were
round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up
also.

35
And there came out a fire from the L
ORD
, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.

36
 And the L
ORD
spake unto Moses, saying,
37
Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter thou the fire yonder; for they are hallowed.
38
The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates
for
a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the L
ORD
, therefore they are hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel.
39
And Eleazar the priest took the brasen censers, wherewith they that were burnt had offered; and they were made broad
plates for
a covering of the altar:
40

to be
a memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which
is
not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the L
ORD
; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as the L
ORD
said to him by the hand of Moses.
