Psalm 60:1-12

To the chief Musician upon Shushan-eduth, Michtam of David, to teach; when he strove with Aram-naharaim and with Aram-zobah, when Joab returned, and smote of Edom in the valley of salt twelve thousand.

1
O God, thou hast cast us off, thou hast scattered us, thou hast been displeased; O turn thyself to us again.

2
Thou hast made the earth to tremble; thou hast broken it: heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh.

3
Thou hast shewed thy people hard things: thou hast made us to drink the wine of astonishment.

4
Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.

5
That thy beloved may be delivered; save
with
thy right hand, and hear me.

6
God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.

7
 Gilead
is
mine, and Manasseh
is
mine; Ephraim also
is
the strength of mine head; Judah
is
my lawgiver;

8
 Moab
is
my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe: Philistia, triumph thou because of me.

9
 Who will bring me
into
the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?

10

Wilt
not thou, O God,
which
hadst cast us off? and
thou,
O God,
which
didst not go out with our armies?

11
Give us help from trouble: for vain
is
the help of man.

12
Through God we shall do valiantly: for he
it is that
shall tread down our enemies.

Proverbs 11:15

15
He that is surety for a stranger shall smart
for it:
and he that hateth suretiship is sure.

Numbers 26:52–28:15

52
 And the L
ORD
spake unto Moses, saying,
53
Unto these the land shall be divided for an inheritance according to the number of names.
54
To many thou shalt give the more inheritance, and to few thou shalt give the less inheritance: to every one shall his inheritance be given according to those that were numbered of him.
55
Notwithstanding the land shall be divided by lot: according to the names of the tribes of their fathers they shall inherit.
56
According to the lot shall the possession thereof be divided between many and few.

57
 And these
are
they that were numbered of the Levites after their families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites: of Kohath, the family of the Kohathites: of Merari, the family of the Merarites.
58
 These
are
the families of the Levites: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the family of the Korathites. And Kohath begat Amram.
59
And the name of Amram's wife
was
Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, whom
her mother
bare to Levi in Egypt: and she bare unto Amram Aaron and Moses, and Miriam their sister.
60
And unto Aaron was born Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
61
And Nadab and Abihu died, when they offered strange fire before the L
ORD
.

62
And those that were numbered of them were twenty and three thousand, all males from a month old and upward: for they were not numbered among the children of Israel, because there was no inheritance given them among the children of Israel.

63
 These
are
they that were numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who numbered the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by Jordan
near
Jericho.
64
But among these there was not a man of them whom Moses and Aaron the priest numbered, when they numbered the children of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai.
65
 For the L
ORD
had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not left a man of them, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

27:
1
Then came the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph: and these
are
the names of his daughters; Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah.
2
And they stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the princes and all the congregation,
by
the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, saying,
3
Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of them that gathered themselves together against the L
ORD
in the company of Korah; but died in his own sin, and had no sons.
4
Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no son? Give unto us
therefore
a possession among the brethren of our father.

5
And Moses brought their cause before the L
ORD
.

6
 And the L
ORD
spake unto Moses, saying,
7
The daughters of Zelophehad speak right: thou shalt surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father's brethren; and thou shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass unto them.
8
And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a man die, and have no son, then ye shall cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter.
9
And if he have no daughter, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his brethren.
10
And if he have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his father's brethren.
11
And if his father have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his kinsman that is next to him of his family, and he shall possess it: and it shall be unto the children of Israel a statute of judgment, as the L
ORD
commanded Moses.

12
 And the L
ORD
said unto Moses, Get thee up into this mount Abarim, and see the land which I have given unto the children of Israel.
13
And when thou hast seen it, thou also shalt be gathered unto thy people, as Aaron thy brother was gathered.
14
For ye rebelled against my commandment in the desert of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the water before their eyes: that
is
the water of Meribah in Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.

15
And Moses spake unto the L
ORD
, saying,
16
 Let the L
ORD
, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation,
17
which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the L
ORD
be not as sheep which have no shepherd.

18
 And the L
ORD
said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom
is
the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him;
19
and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight.
20
 And thou shalt put
some
of thine honour upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient.
21
And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask
counsel
for him after the judgment of Urim before the L
ORD
: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in,
both
he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.

22
And Moses did as the L
ORD
commanded him: and he took Joshua, and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation:
23
and he laid his hands upon him, and gave him a charge, as the L
ORD
commanded by the hand of Moses.

28:
1
 And the L
ORD
spake unto Moses, saying,
2
Command the children of Israel, and say unto them, My offering,
and
my bread for my sacrifices made by fire,
for
a sweet savour unto me, shall ye observe to offer unto me in their due season.

3
And thou shalt say unto them, This
is
the offering made by fire which ye shall offer unto the L
ORD
; two lambs of the first year without spot day by day,
for
a continual burnt offering.
4
 The one lamb shalt thou offer in the morning, and the other lamb shalt thou offer at even;
5
 and a tenth
part
of an ephah of flour for a meat offering, mingled with the fourth
part
of an hin of beaten oil.
6

It is
a continual burnt offering, which was ordained in mount Sinai for a sweet savour, a sacrifice made by fire unto the L
ORD
.
7
 And the drink offering thereof
shall be
the fourth
part
of an hin for the one lamb: in the holy
place
shalt thou cause the strong wine to be poured unto the L
ORD
for
a drink offering.
8
And the other lamb shalt thou offer at even: as the meat offering of the morning, and as the drink offering thereof, thou shalt offer
it,
a sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the L
ORD
.

9
And on the sabbath day two lambs of the first year without spot, and two tenth deals of flour
for
a meat offering, mingled with oil, and the drink offering thereof:
10

this is
the burnt offering of every sabbath, beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.

11
And in the beginnings of your months ye shall offer a burnt offering unto the L
ORD
; two young bullocks, and one ram, seven lambs of the first year without spot;
12
and three tenth deals of flour
for
a meat offering, mingled with oil, for one bullock; and two tenth deals of flour
for
a meat offering, mingled with oil, for one ram;
13
and a several tenth deal of flour mingled with oil
for
a meat offering unto one lamb;
for
a burnt offering of a sweet savour, a sacrifice made by fire unto the L
ORD
.
14
And their drink offerings shall be half an hin of wine unto a bullock, and the third
part
of an hin unto a ram, and a fourth
part
of an hin unto a lamb: this
is
the burnt offering of every month throughout the months of the year.
15
And one kid of the goats for a sin offering unto the L
ORD
shall be offered, beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.

Luke 3:1-22

1
Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,
2
Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.
3
 And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;
4
as it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
5
Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways
shall be
made smooth;
6
and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

7
Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8
Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to
our
father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
9
And now also the ax is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

10
And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?

11
He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.

12
Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do?

13
And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you.

14
And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do?

And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse
any
falsely; and be content with your wages.

15
 And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;
16
 John answered, saying unto
them
all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:
17
 whose fan
is
in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.
18
And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people.

19
But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,
20
added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.

21
Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,
22
and the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
