“I'm sorry if I hurt you.” I say as she looks
up into my eyes. She starts to speak when I lean in and kiss her.
Those fucking lips have been calling me since the day I laid eyes
on her. I push her back against the locker as I kiss her harder.
Her hands are on my arms as she starts to move them around my neck.
My hands slide down her sides and to her waist. The thin layer of
this tiny dress she’s wearing lets me feel everything. I run my
hands all over her body. She starts to run her hands down my back
and I pull back quickly.

“I told you I don’t like to be touched.” I
snap as I grab her hands and hold them in front of her.

“Why not?” She says a little breathlessly. I
look at her face and into her eyes. I let her hands go as I slowly
pull my shirt over my head. Her eyes light up as she looks at my
chest and that causes me to chuckle a little. I slowly turn around
to show her why I don’t want to be touched. The scars. Scars from
when I was younger and the scars from being in the war. I got shot
and when an explosive went off the shrapnel splintered and went
through my skin. I still have pieces stick inside of me. I jerk
when I feel Nina’s hands on my back. I start to move away but then
for some odd reason I stop myself.

“What happened?” She asks softly as she
glides her hands over my scars. I close my eyes and take a deep
breath.

“I had a rough life. I was raised by an
abusive father. He made us obey him. When we didn’t we had to deal
with the consequences. We were supposed to be soldiers. Soldiers
obeyed orders. When I was 18 I was sent to be in the Marines. The
last time I was overseas it was a bad time. A lot of my friends
died in that explosion. I didn’t. I lived.” I say softly as her
hands keep moving. I close my eyes and savior the feeling of
someone touching me. No one has touched me like this in a long
time. What the hell am I doing letting her do it? Why can’t I pull
away from her?

“You’re a warrior.” She says quietly as I
spin around to face her.

“What did you say?” I ask like I didn’t hear
her the first time. She knows what I am but yet she doesn’t. I want
to hear her say it again.

“I said you’re a warrior.” She says as she
leans up and kisses me. I grab the little dress she’s wearing and
quickly pull it over her head as I slam her back against the
lockers. I lift her with ease as I slam myself into her. I haven’t
had something so good in a long fucking time. I grab her hips as
she wraps her legs around me. I pump in and out of her as she
screams and moans. God this is one hell of a feeling. I needed this
bad. She holds on around my neck as I lay her on the bench behind
us. I grab her hands and shove them over her head and make her hold
onto the bench above her as I lift her legs and place them over my
shoulders. I rub her ass before I slam back into her so fucking
deep. Nina is screaming as she tightens her grip on the bench.

“Please oh god!” she screams as I push her
harder and harder. I can feel her squeezing around me and I know
she is so fucking close right now.

“Fuck Nina. Damn it!” I groan as I pound
harder and harder until I feel her let go and release. She comes so
fucking hard and I'm right behind her. When I realize I didn’t put
a condom on I pull out quickly as I stand and backup running my
hand through my hair.

“Fuck. I'm sorry I didn’t..” I start to say
as she sits up looking embarrassed.

“It’s ok. I'm on the pill and I'm clean.” She
says looking down like I slapped her. I step towards her lifting
her face to look at me.

“I didn’t mean to imply anything. I'm sorry.
I'm clean too I just don’t do this without protection.” I say as
she gives me a small smile and nod.

***

The next few months go by the same way. I
work and I hit the gym. I train these little boys my dad has signed
me up for. I don’t understand the need for them anyway. Me, Bradon
and Drew are the ones that are basically sent out on the jobs. For
the most part things have been fairly calm. Juan paid what he owed
we went back so we didn’t have to fuck with him much. I have been
seeing a lot of Nina lately. I don’t know why I feel such a strong
connection to her but I do. We hang out around the diner mostly. We
talk and she seems interested in what I have to say although that’s
not a whole lot. I don’t let people in and I can’t trust a female
to be around this bullshit I'm running with my dad.

“So how long were you in the Marines?” Nina
asks as she takes a drink of her tea.

“I was in for 5 years but that was with
training too. I did 3 tours.” I say as I eat my lunch.

“Was it hard?” She says as she watches me. I
don’t usually talk about this stuff but I feel like I want her to
know me. Not the real me but the honest parts of me.

“Hell yea. Training kicked my ass but I was
top of my class. Going overseas takes shit to a whole other level.
The things I seen and had to do there are beyond what you dream.
The people you encounter that you have to deal with are heartless.
They don’t care who they hurt or why they just do it. I'm one of
those.” I say as I finish up with my food. I grab my beer as Nina
watches my face. I know what she’s thinking.

“I don’t think you’re like that. You have a
heart. I’ve seen it.” She says setting her drink on the table to
gauge my reaction to what she just said. I almost feel sorry for
her right now thinking I have a heart.

“You’ve seen a shadow. In actuality there is
nothing there anymore. I don’t know if there ever was.” I say as I
put my hand over my chest. “Life fucks with you Nina. You are what
you live.” I say as I lower my hand. Nina doesn’t say anything and
I don’t really think there is anything to say. I am all that I
described about others. I'm ruthless, heartless, and soulless. All
of that is me and who I have become. I may have even been born that
way. From the time I could walk all I have known was that I had to
fight for what I wanted, what I needed. Now that I'm a grown man
that is still the way my life is. It’s a constant battle.

“I think there is still some good in you
Cadence.” Nina says with a half-smile.

“Wouldn’t that be something to behold.” I say
with a wink. “I used to think that there was some left in me too
but lately I feel it slipping further and further away. Just beyond
my reach. It’s like when you really want something and you claw
your way to it just to find you’re chained back and can’t reach
that last 3 inches.” I say as I sit back in my seat and tip my head
back.

“I believe there is always a way. Someone has
to have the key to that chain and maybe one day you will find out
who it is.” She says as I tip my head back and look at her.

“That may be true but I don’t know if I will
be around to see that day.” I say as we sit in silence.

“You ready for this shit son?” My dad asks me
as we strap up and start out to the trucks.

“Hell yea I am. Why wouldn’t I be?” I ask as
we load into 6 different trucks. We are heading over to a group
that has been screwing around with the weapons my dad imports. This
guy Bill has been taking what he wants off the shipment before the
rest hit our men. Apparently this is something that has been
happening before I ever came back. We are headed to a remote spot
and security is going to be crucial.

“Just checking where your head is as is all.”
My dad says as I look over at him.

“My head has been in the same place it has
always been. When have I ever showed you differently?” I ask with a
slight edge to my voice. I don’t like all this beat around the bush
type shit. If you have something to say just say it.

“You haven’t. I'm just worried about you is
all.” My dad says as I chuckle a little. He is worried about me?
No, he has never been worried about me. He is worried about me
messing something up which I'm not stupid enough to do. I know my
fucking place here. I always have.

“Don’t be. I have been handling myself for a
while now and not one time have I fucked you over.” I say as I look
out the window. He doesn’t say anything else and I take that as a
sign that our conversation is over or I pissed him off. Either way
I don’t really care too much. We ride along in silence as we
approach our target.

“This it?” I say as Bradon starts to slow the
truck down.

“Yea. There’s about 10 acres of land to
cover. There will be guys set up at every building in there. I got
the other guys on that but we are hitting the main house. You guys
need to keep coms open and be ready. I want Bill’s head on a
fucking stick but not before he talks.” My dad says as we all nod
and jump out. We finish suiting up before we are ready to roll.
This is my thing right here. This is what I was born to do and I'm
fucking ready to do it. We roll in behind the first 2 crews as the
others make their way around the premises. We all have coms on so
we know where everyone is.

“Group 4 in place. Group 6 in place.” We hear
over the coms. Once we hear all the groups are in place we head in.
We stay low and for obvious reasons I was put up front. I move low
and fast as the others follow behind me.

“Stay low. We have 3 men on the roof. Group 4
can you get them?” I say as I stop and sign for the rest of the
guys to stop. We wait and watch as we count down the guys as they
fall.

“Group 4 roof clear.” I hear as we start to
move again. We stay low as we approach the house. We have a team
set up around back as we make the front. We creep up the stairs and
quickly make entry. We have our guns pulled and watching everything
around us. A few guys walk out and we quickly take them down. We
move through the house with ease and something makes me a little
uneasy about the whole thing.

“Somethings off.” I say into the coms. I stay
low and I watch my ass but I can’t shake this feeling. I know how
to read my surroundings and I'm getting a bad vibe from this
place.

“Keep moving.” My dad comes over the coms. I
do as I'm told and keep moving when the door to our left fucking
explodes. We all hit the floor as we fire back. A shit ton of men
come barreling out. I knew something was off.

“Stay down!” I snap into the coms as bullets
fly. We shoot until we no longer hear anything else.

“Everyone good?” I ask into the coms and wait
for responses. Everyone comes through except for Cody one of the
other guys.

“Cody? Cody?” I say into the coms when Bradon
comes through.

“Cody’s gone.” Bradon says. Fuck I hate it
when I lose a man.

“Keep moving.” I snap into the coms as I
stand and head through the door. I step over a man that is still
moving and fire one shot into his head. Blood splatters but it
doesn’t faze me as I keep moving. We walk into the other room and
find a locked door. Bill is in there. I know he is.

“Group 1 making entrance.” I say into the
coms as Bradon comes up next to me. I hand signal him to blow the
door. Bradon sets up and we are ready.

“Stand-by. 3…..2…..” Then we hear the blast
that takes the door down. We move in swiftly and find Bill inside
the room with 4 heavily armed guards. We all stand with guns
pointed at each other.

“Well well well. We seem to have a slight
situation here don’t we fellas?” Bill says with a sly smirk on his
face. My dad steps up next to me now.

“The only situation we have is how I'm going
to haul all that merchandise back to my warehouse.” My dad says as
he watches Bill’s smile fall.

“Well now that could be a problem if your
boys made it that far.” Bill says. Just then I hear groups coming
over the coms with the all clear and secured. I nod my head at my
dad as he smiles and looks back at Bill.

“Well it just so happens that my boys did
make it. All I want to know is why the hell you would want to cross
me?” My dad says as he smiles at Bill.

“Do you think I was going to let you run the
whole show? You dabble in everything and weapons were what I had.”
Bill says as my dad nods his head towards me. I get on coms and
give them the go. I count to myself in my head to 10.

“DOWN!” I yell as we all hit the ground.
Group 7 moves in and starts shooting right as we drop down. No one
ever saw it coming. Once his guys are down and we get the clear we
all jump up and look at Bill.

“Seems you have a new situation now.” I say
as I smile.

“Who the fuck are you anyways?” Bill says
watching me.

“Oh that?” My dad says pointing over at me.
“That is my warrior.” He says as he nods his head at me. I know the
drill. This kill is mine. I pull the gun up and touch it to his
forehead. BANG!

***

“We are having a fucking party tonight!” My
dad yells the next morning after breakfast. We had a “family”
breakfast this morning to talk about last night’s mission. Overall
it went great. We did lose a few guys which we already knew we
would. I got shot in the shoulder and fuck if I didn’t feel it
until we came back last night. I decide I want to head out and just
calm down a little before the party tonight. I stand and start to
head towards the door.

“Where are you off to?” My dad says as I spin
around to face him.

“Taking a little break before tonight. I need
to work this shoulder out or I’ll be stiff as hell later.” I say as
he smiles and nods.

“Yea we don’t want that happening. I may need
you.” He says smiling back at me. I nod as I turn and walk towards
the front door. Once I'm outside Bradon walks up.

“Where you going already?” He says as he
slaps my shoulder. I take a step back as he looks at me with
surprise. “Fuck I'm sorry.” He says.

“It’s ok man. I’ve taken worse than this and
yea I'm heading out to the gym to work this shit out a little. I
don’t want it to stiffen up.” I say as he nods.

“Ok well I’ll see you when you get back.” He
says as I nod and hop in the truck and take off. I don’t think a
whole lot on the way over to David’s. There isn’t much running
through my head at this point. I don’t know what people get so
worked up about with this whole death thing because it doesn’t faze
me at all. Maybe that is the reason I am the way I am because I
have no morals or real feelings. Life just happens and I just so
happen to be a killer.
