CHAPTER FOUR

Detective Steele was not very alarmed when he got the call from Brentford, only he didn’t expect what he was telling him. He had known they were hiding something-they had known the whereabouts of the daughter after all. It was a curious tale indeed; the father is missing and the daughter is unconcerned, which does mean she may know something. They may know something. He motioned to Mueller to head over; they had some business on the road.

This time Wes was far from surprised when the two detectives came knocking. He allowed them in mainly because a refusal would land him downtown. “Detectives, to what do I owe this pleasant surprise?” he said sarcastically.

“You do not seem at all surprised to see us?” said Steele.

“Frankly I am not. After the Wall Street clowns came through I suspected they would make a call, but I will tell you the same thing I told them,” he ended.

“I assure you, this is just for formality. We are not accusing you of anything, but there are a few things we would like some clarification on,” said Steele.

“Go on then.”

Steele took a mini notebook out of inside pocket and got ready to make some jottings. “Where were you on the fateful night two weeks ago?”

Wes was a little stunned by the question. “I was home, as I am every other night, or out with Lucy. How do I remember that now? I don’t chart my days.”

Steele jotted that down. “How did you come to know Chrissie? The daughter of the man we find missing and whose home was vandalized?”

“I didn’t know her. She showed up here after the apparent incident. She knew my brother and she took a chance that she could stay here. After I heard what had happened I agreed for her to stay here until a reasonable solution could be worked out.”

He jotted something else. “Why didn’t you report her father missing, or try to find out what had happened?”

“Okay Detectives, I was wrong there, but there is no charge for ignorance.”

“Mr. Chamberlain, I would advise that you cooperate with our investigations for a smoother process.”

Wes threw his hands in the air in defeat. “I am cooperating detectives, but there really isn’t much for me to say.”

“I would suggest that you get a lawyer Mr. Chamberlain. We have not placed you at the scene as yet, but there are many avenues here to explore, and we may need to speak with the child. Since you are not her legal guardian, someone from social services will be over to speak with you. Until then, have a good day.”

They turned and walked away, and Wes took up the phone soon after and dialed Walter’s number. “I am going to need your help. It seems we have some more cleaning to do. The Police was just here and as far as I realize, they seem to be implicating me in the disappearance of Derek. Now we know what happened, but they can’t.”

“I am sure they have not been able to place you at the scene, so don’t worry. They are just trying to scare you into saying something. If they do show up again, do not say anything. Just call me, alright?”

“There is something else.  They claim they will be sending social services here because I do not have legal guardianship of Chrissie. What do I do about that?”

“Just leave it to me Wes. Don’t worry about any of that.”

That was easier said than done. Wes knew that Walter would pull out all stops to do all the cleaning he needed to do, but it was not Walter who had a secret to protect. He paced the floor until he wound up in his favorite spot-out on the balcony. He was taking in the evening air when Lucy walked in.

“Hi darling,” she said and walked over to give him a kiss.

“Hello sweetheart. How was your day?”

She walked back to the sofa. “It was another busy one. I got a call from Olympus concerning the ‘bear’ attack a few weeks back. They wanted to get a brief from me concerning the progress of the case, but like I told them, there was nothing much I could do, so they have decided to give me some sort of insight on how they shove these things under the carpet. I have a few small cases, but nothing I can’t handle.”

“Okay, guess that’s not so bad after all. On the contrary, I just had a few not so welcome guests from some detectives. They seem to be insinuating I had something to do with the disappearance, and they may be sending someone from social services here because I am not Chrissie’s legal guardian.”

“Wow. Now my day is beginning to sound not so bad after all. What are we going to do?” she asked.

“I called Walter. He told me he will take care of it, but you know I don’t do so well in that department when it comes to not worrying. It is my secret and there is not a human judge who will listen to the real story. I might be sent to an asylum for the psychologically impaired.” He wiped his face with his hands and sat down on the sofa, arching so that his face was close to his knees and his hands clasped between them.

Lucy sat down next to him and began rubbing his shoulders, sort of like giving him a mini massage. “Try not to worry too much. I am sure they were just trying to scare you, and had I been here, you would not have said anything to them. I hope you didn’t tell them anything. What did you say?”

“They asked how I came to know Chrissie and I told them I didn’t. She is a friend of my brother’s and she showed up here after the apparent disappearance and we decided to let her stay here until a more permanent solution could be found. But they asked me about my whereabouts on the night of the vandalism, as if to suggest I was there. Those snakes from what’s-their-face Investment ratted us out after they left. I think the fact that Chrissie seemed so unconcerned didn’t go over too well with them.”

“They have nothing on you. It is a pity you answered them at all. If they aren’t arresting you, then you don’t need to answer, and even if they did arrest you, then you would definitely need a lawyer.”

Wes was not relaxing his tension no matter what Lucy said. “I think I am going to take a shower,” he said and stood up.

He went into the room and she could see him strip and walk into the shower, looking very hot. She felt a sudden compulsion to satisfy him tonight. She followed suit, and by the time she made it to the shower, the water was already running. She walked in and slid the translucent doors apart and stepped in. His hair was wet and had fallen backwards on his head, giving him a sort of Italian look. The water from the shower cascaded down his chest, twisting and curving over his taut muscles that now seemed to jump at the sight of her. She followed the trail of the water with her eyes, and just as it was about to fall off his extended mid section she bent over and caught it in her mouth. She covered the peak, and her warm mouth gave him the shivers. She continued to drink from him and the feel of the chilly water plus her warm tongue did strange things to him. She dipped underneath and took twin balls inter her mouth and played with them until he held her head in place, forcing her to continue. She rose and as the water fell between them, their lips met in a passionate encounter, and he drank her in with a thirst that one would feel after battling the desert heat.

After the day he has had, he needed this. He squeezed her into him, allowing her breasts to be flattened against his chest, so close he could feel her heart beating against it. She held him around his neck and shoved him against the tiled walls. He lifted her by the legs and hoisted her in the air, allowing her sweet haven to be in the path of his destructive tongue. She gripped his head for support as her eyes rolled back and his tongue explored her juicy goodness, and as the water beat against her back, he lapped the remainder that trickled onto her and combined with her juices. He lowered her now and when she was securely planted onto the ground of the tub, he raised one of her legs and gently inserted his member into her passage way, and she held his waist, urging him further. He used her rhythm to drive her onto him repeatedly, and with each plunge they moaned louder, not wanting to climax and end the moment. After a few minutes, he lifted her off of him and turned her around so that her back now arched. The water was now falling dead center between them and as she pressed now crème palms onto the tiles, he drove into her, devouring her, and she gripped him like gum. He beat against her, and she trembled to match his vibrations and when they could take no more, they exploded simultaneously. He held her there for a few seconds as he let all his juices invade her space. Then he turned her around and helped her up. He held her to him, and as he trembled from left over ecstasy, she whispered tender words in his ear that erased all the doubt he had been feeling. He would feel it tomorrow no doubt, but tonight, he would welcome the warm embrace of love and passion that is Lucy.

CHAPTER FIVE

Walter sat there in his chair, swiveling from side to side like a child. He was chewing on one of the pencils when Anthony walked in.

“What has got you in such a tizzy?” he asked.

“Unexpected news. It seems as much as we tried to mop up the scene, there are some loose ends. Some of Derek’s partners found out the girl is staying with Wes and Lucy, and they think there may be something we aren’t saying. They are thinking to send in social services so she may be taken away. We can get temporary guardianship for her with him if we can’t find any relatives for her. I have asked some of the guys to track any relatives they may know about that he may have, both in and out of state.”

“It seems that you have that angle covered. So what is really bothering you.”

“Remember why we started doing this in the first place? I was close to partnering here, had years under my belt and I was working so hard for that very moment. One day I was heading home; I used to walk a lot then, because it was an easy way to clear the mind. It was especially lonely that night so I could easily detect the low moaning of some sort of animal in the bushes nearby. I stood there for a few seconds, thinking it would stop, but when it didn’t, I thought I would investigate. I figured it might have been a dog or something that had suffered from a hit and run. I crept into the bushes, but what I saw was no dog. I fell back against the dirt when I saw the huge beast lying there, moaning. I started racing back to the road, but when I got there, I felt a compulsion to return. I didn’t know of any bears in that neighborhood, so it was by itself alarming. I went back to the spot where I had seen the beast, but when I got there, it was no longer a beast, but a man.

My young mind could not comprehend what I was seeing. He was lying there naked, with jagged marks across its stomach area, and he was bleeding profusely. I quickly pulled my jacket off and attempted to apply pressure to the wound. He tried to brush me aside and I could barely make out what he was trying to tell me. I pushed down on that wound, and just when I was beginning to panic, he removed my hand from the wound. I had noticed that he was not breathing as hard as before, and when I looked, the wound had closed completely. He was still a bloody mess, but there was no evidence of a mauling.

I looked up at him, now with double shock. ‘What are you?’ I had asked him then. I had seen this stuff in the movies, but never did I believe it existed. He sat there in his nakedness and talked to me about what he was. He seemed comfortable in trusting me and I was not in the least bit afraid of what he was. He told me then that he had been attacked, and his kind had always been attacked by this Derek, but he had no protection for no one would side with them. I decided then and there that I would use what power I had to protect them as much as I could from the likes of Derek. He stayed where he was until I went home and got him some clothes-his was ripped when he transformed. He waited until I got back, and he did find me the next day and thank me. That man was Wes,” concluded Walter.

“I never did hear how all this started,” mentioned Anthony.

“When I partnered I had all the power I needed to protect them and him and we have enjoyed a healthy relationship since. When I met you two, I tested you and found you were more liberal than other humans would be and so I brought you on board. Something in me feels that I was destined for this, that me meeting him that night was no coincidence. I will do what I can to protect them at all costs.”

“So, where do we go from here?”

“I am going to contact social services first and get someone to work on temporary guardianship. As for the police, I believe they are harmless so I wouldn’t worry about them much if at all. They can only implicate him, but unless they find something at the scene and I am sure they won’t, then there is nothing that they can do.”

“We left nothing at the scene besides the broken vases and a few missing pieces that we discarded afterwards. There really is nothing to pin on him, but it can’t hurt to keep our ears on the ground just in case they do come forward with something. As far as I can see, they only have the fact that he is a non-family member now with custody of Derek’s daughter. That was bound to raise suspicion naturally and that is why I was opposed to it, but what was he to do? Leave her on the street?”

“I wouldn’t worry, really. Right now we do not have the threat of Derek lingering over him anymore and that was more of a threat to his existence. Even if he were accused, he could disappear easily, but we aim to avoid that. He wants to live a normal life, and that is what we will facilitate.”

Walter took up the phone and dialed the number for the local PD. He asked for Detective Steele and when the experienced man answered, he told him, in no uncertain terms, that Wes Chamberlain is a client of his, and that any information he may need or questions that he had to ask, he would have to go through him.”

This condescending attitude was not taken favorably by Steele, but he had advised Wes to retain a lawyer. “There is something that bothers me though.”

“What is that?” asked Anthony.

“Derek. We never did find a body, and that cannot be a good thing. We need to search harder because we don’t want him resurfacing with any more shenanigans.”

Anthony mulled over that for a few moments. “That is an odd occurrence, him not being found. We need to get back to the property somewhat and search for hidden exits. I think he may have either used one or was helped along one.”

“We need to do it soon, or all hell will break loose.”
