Only now did Stephen feel the pain in his thigh. While the wound had pretty much healed, it was sore. Underneath him, Daniel was still catching his breath. “I need to lie back down,” Stephen told him, and Daniel grumbled as they moved to lie on their sides again.

“I was enjoying that,” Daniel muttered, then turned his head when Stephen didn’t reply. “Is something wrong? Is it your leg?”

“It’s a little sore, that’s all.”

“Oh?”

He gave Daniel a quick smile when he heard the concern. “Should probably have been more careful.”

“Probably,” Daniel agreed, reaching up to stroke Stephen’s cheek. “Or maybe you should’ve been more careful two nights ago.”

The reminder of the fight he hadn’t lost on purpose stung, and Stephen moved his head away. “He attacked me.”

“I know,” Daniel told him. “I was there. Hey, I was just kidding.” He reached for Stephen again, but his hand froze an inch away from Stephen’s skin when he noticed the scowl. “What is it?”

“You really wanna talk about me losing to him now?” The timing couldn’t be worse. He had been feeling great, on top of the world even, and now Daniel’s reminder brought him crashing down. If he had fought harder then, they wouldn’t have had to go through all that effort last night.

“No, not at all, I only said it because you mentioned being in pain.” Daniel looked worried now. “Is it bad?”

“It’s fine,” he snapped. He wished he could pull out of Daniel and walk away so he wouldn’t have to be reminded of his humiliation.

“It’s not fine,” Daniel insisted. “Look, I’m sorry, I know you couldn’t help it and did your best.”

And his best hadn’t been good enough. “Forget it.” He lay back down, as far away from Daniel as he could, which wasn’t nearly far enough.

“Stephen?” Daniel shifted, trying to look at Stephen. “I didn’t mean to hurt you, please tell me what’s wrong.”

“What’s wrong,” Stephen replied, his voice dripping with annoyance, “is you bringing up one of the most embarrassing moments of my life while I’ve got my dick inside of you.”

Daniel blushed. “I wasn’t thinking, I’m sorry,” he mumbled, then frowned. “Embarrassing?”

“Yes!” he exclaimed. “I lost to McClanahan, after promising you to keep you safe, I fucking lost to that asshole. In front of you, in front of Richard… and McClanahan got away without a scratch.” That ear wound barely counted. “And then I had to lose to him on purpose!”

“Oh, I see.” Daniel was smiling now, which only annoyed Stephen further. “Is it your ego or your leg that’s been injured the most?”

It wasn’t funny. “It’s not like that.” This had nothing to do with his ego.

“Isn’t it?” Daniel asked, moving backwards again. “You didn’t want to look weak in front of me.”

“Of course not,” Stephen replied. He stayed still, because what was the point? His knot was still swollen and throbbing in Daniel’s ass, but fucking him right now was the last thing on his mind. “Or in front of Richard,” he added belatedly.

“But mostly me.” Daniel smiled when Stephen didn’t reply. “I think I get it. I felt embarrassed when you first saw me and my wounds. I didn’t want to look weak in front of strange werewolves either, like I couldn’t take care of myself.”

“I didn’t think you were weak,” Stephen argued, but Daniel raised a hand to silence him.

“But I thought you did. Hell, I thought I was weak and pathetic.” Daniel sighed, his smile fading. “I figured you were helping me only out of pity, but then you and the others put in so much effort, letting me stay… and I realised you were being genuinely nice and helpful.”

“So?”

“So,” Daniel continued, “I thought I was weak for running away rather than fight McClanahan. That a strong werewolf wouldn’t let McClanahan bite them, would fight back and win. I know it sounds really weird, but when you fought him and didn’t do so well, it was actually kind of reassuring.”

Stephen was staring at him now, more confused than angry. “How?”

Daniel shrugged. “That it wasn’t just me being weak. You’ve been a werewolf for over five years, you’re pretty strong, and McClanahan even beat you.”

Stephen didn’t reply that that had more to do with McClanahan being a more experienced fighter rather than having been a werewolf longer. Although the latter helped of course. “But I failed to keep you safe.” If Richard had shown up five minutes later… Stephen didn’t want to think about that.

“You fought back long enough,” Daniel said, reaching for Stephen now. He smiled when he wrapped his hand around Stephen’s wrist. “You stopped him from forcing me to come with him.”

“Only because Richard was there, along with the others,” Stephen muttered. His anger had vanished. While the memory of losing was still humiliating, and no amount of Daniel could change that, he did feel slightly better after the explanation.

“Isn’t that what you were saying all along? That a real werewolf pack looks out for each other?”

“True,” Stephen said. It wasn’t like his own pack hadn’t warned him that fighting would be a bad idea. Still, Daniel was right, his fight with McClanahan had bought them time. He shifted to wrap his arm around Daniel. “Guess I got angry with you over nothing.”

“I should’ve realised you didn’t see it the way I did,” Daniel replied quietly.

“I definitely didn’t think you’d feel better over me losing to McClanahan.”

Daniel spluttered at that. “Not better, that makes it sound like I wanted you to lose. This isn’t helping at all, is it?” He sighed. “We’re never getting back to fucking now.”

“Is that why you’ve been so nice to me about the fight?” he said, thinking it was only fair he teased Daniel this time.

“No! Not at all, I meant it.” Daniel huffed when he felt Stephen laugh. “That wasn’t funny. But since you’re clearly feeling better…” He trailed off, moving his hips against Stephen’s meaningfully. “Unless you don’t want to?”

He definitely still wanted to. “No, we’re even.”

“Good.” Daniel slid a hand into his hair to pull him in for a lazy kiss.

He shifted, thrusting into Daniel, who moaned into the kiss. Rather than their earlier, more frenzied fucking, Stephen kept thrusting slowly now, nuzzling Daniel’s neck and stroking his chest. One of Daniel’s hands was resting on his side, fingers running up and down. It did a lot to lift his mood, although that was probably also down to their brief chat.

“Oh God, that feels good,” Daniel groaned, his eyes fluttering shut again. “Should’ve done this earlier.”

“Who with?” Stephen asked, amused and a little bit jealous.

Daniel must’ve been thinking of McClanahan, as his expression quickly went from blissful to disgusted. “You?” he eventually suggested. “Yesterday?”

He leaned in to kiss Daniel’s jaw; there was no need to reply. Not when he could enjoy the feeling of sliding in and out of Daniel, could feel the pleasure build inside himself and, judging by the soft moans, in Daniel too. His own hand drifted down Daniel’s body automatically, wrapping around his swollen dick.

Daniel thrust into it. “Yes, again!” he panted, impatient.

But he didn’t touch the knot or tighten his grip. He moved his fist as slowly as he moved his hips, teasing them both. He ignored Daniel’s muttered pleas, ignored his own need to go faster until he couldn’t take it anymore and sped up, Daniel quickly following his lead. It wasn’t long before Daniel came, with Stephen following a few seconds later.

“Yes, good,” Daniel muttered, pulling Stephen’s arm tighter around him, a smile on his face.

Stephen settled behind him, also perfectly content. “You think that was it?”

“I don’t know, you’ve been a werewolf longer than I have.”

“Never fucked another guy while knotted before,” Stephen reminded him, idly stroking Daniel’s arm. “Never had three orgasms in a row like that before either. Well, not since I was a teenager,” he added.

“I’ve had three in a night,” Daniel said, and yawned. “But that was with longer breaks.”

Stephen pulled Daniel closer, kissing the nape of his neck. The man smelled wonderful, content and happy, and Stephen was glad he could finally enjoy that scent. He opened his eyes when Daniel nudged him.

“Look,” he said, gesturing at his dick.

Stephen wondered what he was meant to be looking at when he realised that Daniel’s knot wasn’t as red as before, or as swollen. “It’s getting smaller.”

“How about yours?” Daniel shifted his hips against him. “It doesn’t feel any different.”

“Give it time,” Stephen replied. He definitely hoped his knot would soon shrink as well. The three orgasms had left him tired, ready for another long nap, this time with Daniel next to him. And sure enough, as Daniel’s dick was nearly back to its usual limp form, Stephen felt his own dick become softer, the odd pressure of Daniel’s body against his knot decreasing.

Daniel had noticed it too. “Ah, good, finally.”

“Did it hurt?”

“It was starting to get pretty uncomfortable, yeah,” Daniel shrugged. “I felt really full.”

He knew how big his knot got, and could imagine that without being fucked, being filled like that wouldn’t fell good. “Let’s wait until it’s smaller,” he suggested, and waited for Daniel to tell him to try. The first time was too soon, Daniel hissing in pain when Stephen tried to pull out. “Okay, not yet.” He rubbed Daniel’s side, feeling a stab of guilt at seeing him in pain.

They were both relieved when Stephen was finally able to slide his dick out of Daniel. Stephen rolled onto his back, tying a knot in the condom before dropping it on his nightstand. He’d clean that up later. He stretched his arms and legs, then smiled when Daniel curled up besides him, their legs tangled with Daniel’s head resting on his shoulder. “Tired?”

“It’s been a long night,” Daniel replied, wrapping his arm around Stephen. “I need to catch up on my sleep.

“Good plan,” Stephen agreed. “But let’s get under the blankets for that.”

Daniel grumbled as Stephen moved out from underneath him, but sighed happily when he resumed his position after pulling the blankets over them both. “Yes, this is better.”

Stephen wrapped his arm around Daniel, and slid his hand in Daniel’s hair. “Better than the guest room?”

“Maybe,” Daniel replied, then signed. “Shame I have to head back tonight.”

Stephen’s hand froze. He had known in the back of his mind that Daniel wouldn’t be staying, but so soon? “Are you sure?”

Daniel shrugged, moving closer. He clearly wasn’t looking forward to leaving either. “I’ve got to go to work tomorrow, and if I’m gonna be using public transport…”

He wished he could give Daniel a ride, but that was going to take hours and he should check on Richard and Alex, see if things had gone well with McClanahan. “You sure?”

“I can’t hide here forever.” He kissed Stephen’s shoulder. “I promise to call if anything happens.”

He went back to stroking Daniel’s back. He didn’t like the thought of Daniel going back home alone one bit, but he couldn’t always be there to protect him and besides, Daniel had shown he could take care of himself when he had to. “Or if nothing happens.”

Daniel laughed. “Definitely. Hey, how do you feel about visiting me next month? During the full moon?”

“I’d love to,” he replied, hugging Daniel tighter. Being a werewolf so close to a city would definitely be strange, but it would be great to run with Daniel, just the two of them. “Month after that you could come here again, to keep it fair.”

“Aren’t you forgetting something?” Daniel asked, leaning up and raising one eyebrow.

Was he getting ahead of himself? “What?”

“We can also visit each other when it’s
not
the full moon.” Daniel was grinning now, his hand resting on Stephen’s chest.

Stephen closed his eyes for a moment, then smiled as well. “Well, yeah.”

“And then we can figure out how to warn other werewolves about McClanahan.”

That wasn’t what Stephen had expected him to say. “Warn others?”

Daniel nodded. “Yeah. I don’t want McClanahan to hurt anyone else. I mean, it’d be better if we could warn humans, but if other werewolves know about him, they can keep an eye on him as well, y’know?”

He reached up to caress Daniel’s shoulder. “We can definitely tell the neighbouring packs we’re friendly with.” But there was only so far they could spread the news, and no telling where McClanahan would go next. “Can’t give you any guarantees it won’t happen again, though.”

“We’ll do our best,” Daniel said, then leaned down to kiss him.

He ran his other hand through Daniel’s hair as the kiss deepened, and already knew he was going to miss the other man. There was no way he was going to wait until the next full moon to see him again. “You know, I think I changed my mind about getting some rest.”

Daniel flashed him a smile. “Me too. Remember what you said before, about doing something else if the knot didn’t fit?” he asked, his tongue darting out to lick a path up Stephen’s neck.

“Yes?” Stephen asked, tilting his head back.

“Let’s do that.” Daniel grazed Stephen’s neck with his teeth. “Let’s do something else.”

Stephen moaned when Daniel found a sensitive spot where his neck met his shoulder. Oh yes, he could think of a few other things they could do before Daniel had to go back home.
