"Go, go where? Mrs. Gaia, this is all very 'cloak and dagger,' but what does it really mean? Why would these guys need Trinny's help?" Emma was concerned for her friend; she knew that Trinny always escaped into herself when her father was mentioned.
"Trinny's dad was very special, and what he was, Trinny is the same. I loved him so much, and always trusted every word he said. He had a gift, there was something so magnetic about him, like he was the Earth and everything else was the moon revolving around him." Lucille was lost in a memory, it was Trinny's voice that cut through,
she
had been processing the conversation.
"Dad told me once that I would one day feel drawn to certain things, people, places, he told me I was special and
that I would some day be able to do things that might scare me at first, but that those things would ultimately help others. I thought every girl's Dad told her things like that, that it was part of the
'you are special'
speech. But tonight I felt it, I felt that pull, and it was to those people, the ones outside. I have to find out, he said he had answers for me." Trinny started for the door.
"Trin, you can't...." Emma had jumped up to catch her friend.
"I have to Em, I have to know what they want and understand why I feel so drawn to them."
"I don't mean that, I mean you can't go out in your Pajama shorts and singlet, you look like you're five!" Emma was always thinking about image, but she did have a point.
"Go get dressed and I will invite them in." Lucille could see the concern in Trinny's eyes. "It will be fine, I trust your instincts."
"Remind me again why we brought the scarecrow?" Morthos questioned Aarion.
"I am standing right next to you Morthos, and he brought me along as he needs all the protection he can get in these dark times." Garus for once had a serious look on his face as he spoke.
"You mean he brought you along as the 'comic relief'!" Morthos strong angular shaped face was straight as usual.
"Actually, he didn't give me a choice, he grabbed hold of me when we went through the Portal, he's stronger than he looks." Aarion smiled at his friend Garus, he was pleased to have him by his side when so much was going on. Garus had a way of lightening situations and could always make Aarion feel better.
"Anyway Morthos, you'll be thankful you have me at your back, I was about to become a Guard of the Ora, just like you." Garus gave Morthos a friendly pat on the back. Morthos stifled a laugh.
"Garus, you had no chance of winning that tournament, not up against the likes of Pilosus and Arum, they are true warrior Fae. Give up on this pipe dream of yours my friend, it will only end up getting you killed." Garus did not look even a little surprised by Morthos comments.
"Morthos, I'm touched. I didn't know you cared so much for me, your concern is almost maternal, even my own mother doesn't have as much sensitivity, it suits you!" Morthos turned on Garus's smirking face and lifted him up by the scruff of his shirtfront with very little effort.
"You little..." Just at that moment, the cafe doors opened, rescuing Garus, Morthos dropped him to the ground with a thud. A tall slim lady with wild red wavy hair stood in the doorway, she wore a pink cotton dressing gown and open toe slippers with smiley faces on them. She had freckles on her button nose and friendly vivid blue eyes. She smiled as she spoke.
"You better come in then." She turned and left the door open for them to enter. Garus and Morthos looked to Aarion, he nodded and led the way into the cafe. Morthos checked there was no one else outside before he closed the door behind them. The lady was now behind a large silver and black machine that took up a large part of the counter.
"Coffee? I have a feeling it may be a long night."
"What's coffee?" Garus asked. The lady looked a little stunned then decided this was far from the most shocking thing she was going to hear tonight.
"I'll make everyone a flat white, that should cover all the bases."
"Thank you for inviting us in, we really do need to speak with Trinity." Aarion spoke with respect to the lady.
"I'm Lucille, Trinny's mother, I gather you knew my husband James?"
"My father knew him, we have never met, my father only spoke of him with the greatest of honor." Aarion turned towards the staircase as he heard voices coming down the stairs, Morthos was suddenly on guard, and his hand had gone under his shirt at his back. He relaxed a little when he saw two teenage girls come around the entrance of the staircase. There was an unexpected silence for a few seconds that seemed to feel like minutes as Aarion and Trinny's eyes meet for the second time that evening. Emma gave her friend a light elbow in the arm and broke the silence.
"Hi. Sorry about kicking you out of the party, but you can't be too careful these days with strangers. Lets start over, I'm Emma, this is my friend Trinny and her mum Mrs. Gaia, now, who the heck are you?"
"Em! Sorry for my friend's.... abruptness, she is just looking out for me. This is all a little unusual and we would just like to know what it is you want?" Trinny was putting on a brave face and going for the calm voice, but she really wanted to be screaming
'what the hell do you want from me?'
But her mother always taught her not to use words like 'hell,' and to certainly not scream at people.
"This is Morthos." Aarion pointed in the direction of the Hercules Greek god guy standing to his left. "Garus." Motioning to the slim built boy on his right with dark scruffy hair, Trinny thought he looked like he had just got out of bed. "And I am Aarion." '
He is gorgeous!'
Trinny almost repeated
the words out loud that Emma just whispered in her ear. She could feel her heart beating a little faster every time she found herself looking into those emerald green eyes, it was like they were looking right into her soul. His dark brown wavy hair just touched his shoulders, and his toned athletic outline was showing slightly through his thin shirt. His facial features were strong but he had a wisdom and softness that looked way beyond his time, he must have been about nineteen years old.
"Coffee's served!" Lucille placed the coffees on a large Jarrah table near a red feature wall. They all moved toward the table and sat on the padded woven cane chairs looking uncomfortably at each other.
"Mmmmm..... this smells good." Garus declared loudly, Morthos gave him a glare that said,
shut up
. Lucille sat down last next to her daughter and directed her attention at Aarion, as he seemed to be the leader of the three.
"So, tell us why you are here."
Aarion took a breath.
"We come from Taeith, it is the capital city of the Realm of Fae, and we are the
Fairon,
bearers of light, protectors of the Ora. Our city was attacked, and the Ora has been poisoned, we only have five days left to save it before the light dies and our Realm is covered in darkness."
"Wait! Fae? Like fairies? And what is an Ora?" Emma was usually the first to ask questions.
"Yes, Fairies, but the Fae is far more than Fairies, there are many magical and beautiful creatures that reside there. And we are not Fairies, we are Fairon." Aarion spoke with a little impatience, he knew it was not going to be easy to uncloak the part of the humans minds that still believed that this was more like a story book than real life, he took another
deep breath and spoke with a gentler voice. "The Ora is like our life force, it would be like your sun, but it does not give heat, or light up the sky, we still have the sun for that, but it keeps our realm protected from dark forces, it is also the source of our magical powers, we draw our magic from the Ora. Once the light of the Ora goes out.... so does our magic, and the ability for our realm to defend itself against the shadows that are threatening it."
"Once the light goes out, the magical wards that are cloaking our world from yours will come down, not only will our realm be revealed, but the darkness that will envelop our world will then spread to yours." Morthos added. There was a silence as Trinny, Emma and Lucille processed what they had just been told, Emma was about to speak but Lucille gave her a glance and spoke first.
"Okay, but what has my daughter got to do with a magical kingdom falling to darkness?"
Trinny's first thought was that her mother sounded like she was reading from one of her favorite fantasy books. Aarion looked at Trinny and then to her necklace.
"500 years ago, there was a great battle in our Realm, a powerful Empress tried to gain the power of the Ora so she could take over our two worlds, to do this she first annihilated a peaceful people, the only race that had the combined capability to destroy her. Her plan failed, as she did not know that three of the people whose realm she had destroyed were visiting our King at the time. When the Empress tried to take the Ora's powers, the Elementals combined their abilities of controlling Earth, Air and Fire to protect the Ora and destroy the Empress. But we did not know that she had gained powerful protection, so all these years she had been bound by the magic the Elementals had
used, not killed. She is the one who has attacked again, and this time, she knows there are no Elementals left in our realm to save the Ora and defeat her, she is not strong enough yet to attack, but her strength grows as the Ora's weakens." Trinny was the first to speak.
"What happened to the Elementals, they were the three people visiting your King?"
Morthos answered her as he could see that Aarion's thoughts were elsewhere.
"Yes, the Elementals that were left made the decision to hide themselves in the mortal world, they gave up their immortality as they had no home to return to, they separated and made new lives for themselves." Aarion looked up at Trinny.
"But one line of elementals kept in touch with our realm, they had their suspicions that the Empress was not fully destroyed. Each generation would visit our realm to meet with our King and keep the connection between our worlds. Your father was the last elemental to do this, so the King sent us here to get you Trinity. We need you to help save our world!"
Emma stood up and smiled, she started looking around the room.
"I knew it!" She said and combed through her brown silky short hair with her fingers. "Are we being punked? Where are the cameras? Did my dad put you up to this?"
"Em
sit
down. It’s okay, they're telling the truth, I feel it, I have always felt it, always known that I was not the same as everyone else, my dad tried to tell me, but I just brushed it off." She had pulled Emma back down into her seat and directed her attention back to Aarion. "How did you know who I was?"
"We were not completely sure when we saw you on the beach today, but we knew when we saw you wearing the
Earth Pendant of Cassis
, it can only be worn by an Earth Elemental." He pointed to her necklace; it was still shimmering like a watery whirlpool under the surface.
"Earth Elemental? Is that what my dad was?"
"Yes, and that is what you are. You turned sixteen today, your full powers should start to mature now." Aarion looked at her more intensely. "Have you felt them?" Emma was sitting with her mouth hanging wide open, speechless for once in her life, and Lucille just looked at her daughter in a proud kind of way, like she knew this day was coming.
"I'm not really sure, I don't know what I should be able to do, is there a manual for this kind of thing?" Garus stifled a laugh and Aarion smiled.
"The Pendant will guide you. But we are wasting precious time, we still need to find two more of the Elementals, Air and Fire, you need to come with us. Now." Urgency was in Aarion's voice. Emma was suddenly woken from her shock.
"Now wait a minute, Trinny is not going anywhere without me."
"There is no way we can bring a mortal with us, it will be more dangerous!" Morthos declared.
"I understand your loyalty to your friend but you need to understand, we may not always be able to protect you, our priority is Trinity." Aarion spoke in an understanding voice.
