“You don’t know what I was going to say, darlin’.” His lips brushed across her temple.

“I can tell.”

He chuckled softly, kissing her temple again. “You can, can you?”

“You’re going to say we shouldn’t do this and that last night was a mistake.” She chanced a look up and into his eyes and only saw concern.

Chapter 11

“That wasn’t exactly what I was going to say.” Connor didn’t want her to get hurt and if he were to be truly honest with himself, deep down he was equally scared that if he allowed himself to feel for her that in a month or two she’d be on a plane back to New York without another glance back.

“But close.” She looked up at him, sadness in her beautiful dark eyes.

“Last night wasn’t a mistake, I enjoyed every moment with you.”

A hint of a smile touched her lips and she fingered the neckline of his shirt. “Then what’s the problem?”

“The problem is that this is a temporary thing. I guess I forgot that fact until you reminded me this morning. The deeper we get into each other the harder it’s going to be.”

“What if I don’t want to go? I think I could be happy here.”

Connor pulled his gaze from hers and looked around them, taking in everything from the stables to the milking parlour. “Would you seriously give up a future in New York,” he motioned to their surroundings, “for life here? Think very,
very
hard about that, because if you aren’t sure then we can’t continue down this road. It’ll only end with one or both of us hurt.”

He looked down at her and saw the indecision in her eyes and his heart sank, just a little bit. A small part of him hoped maybe, just maybe. As much as she claimed she was done with New York deep down she wasn’t.

“I don’t know. I’m not sure...”

“I’ll never be a New Yorker, sweetheart.”

A slight smile spread across her lips.

“What’s that grin for?”

“Just picturing you riding the train.”

Laughing, Connor pulled her tight into his arms and brushed his lips across the top of her head. “Nah, that wouldn’t be me Princess. I’m more of a horseback or half-ton kinda guy. So what happens if you decide you want to go back after all? You deserve the best things in life, and I don’t mean material things.”

Her body froze in his arms and she frowned, her eyes lowered and staring at his chest. “You’re right.”

His heart sank just a little further. He didn’t want to be right, he really didn’t. She remained silent and still in his arms for so long he was actually becoming concerned.

“Sam?”

When she looked back up at him, there was something new in her eyes – a look of decisiveness. “There isn’t a damned thing for me in New York, ’cause nothing there really matters.” She caught her lower lip between her teeth and nodded. “People matter. And love. Right?”

“I suppose.” He fought to keep his face expressionless.

“And, so why would I want to return where I don’t have any of that, when there’s potential here? Isn’t it worth taking a shot, you know, for us?” She looked around them. “I could see myself here.” She pointed to the lasso at their feet. “You said yourself I’m a natural at roping.”

“I’m not sure I said natural.”

Her eyes narrowed as she took a step out of his arms and she stared up at him. “You know what? I think you’re scared.”

“Excuse me?”

“You heard me. You’re scared. This whole recluse cowboy, got no time for anything but work deal you have going on here, who do you think you’re kidding?”

Clenching his jaw, he met her glare. “You don’t know what you’re talking about, Sam.”

“Yeah. Yeah, I think I do. I can see it in your eyes. You’re scared.”

Images of Rebecca flashed through his mind. He’d failed her. She’d counted on him, and he’d failed. The images faded and gave way to Sam standing before him, fire raging in her dark eyes. He wasn’t going to risk Sam being disappointed or worse. Maybe he was a coward, but she’d be better off not falling for him.

“We’re done here.” Grabbing the dropped lassos from the ground he made his way to the barn, relieved that he couldn’t hear her following behind. He was having a hard time staying strong around her, she had a way about her that drew him in and made him go against his better judgment.

“We’re not done, Connor,” her voice called out from behind him as he hooked the lassos up in the stable.

“We are done, Sam. This isn’t going to end well and we both know it.”

“Now I know I’m right.”

He closed his eyes and let out a loud breath. Removing his hat, he thrust a hand into his hair and slowly turned to face her.

“I’m a big girl, I can handle whatever this turns into, Connor.”

What if I can’t?

“Maybe I am a little fucked up. Maybe in a month’s time I will decide I was being hasty and New York is the place I should be, but for right now, all I want is to be here with you.”

His resolved wavered. He needed to get away from her and quickly, before she broke him completely and he gave in to what he really wanted.

~*~*~*~

There was no way she was letting him brush her off so easily. She’d hit a nerve with him, she could feel it and see it in his eyes. She had no idea why he was avoiding any sort of relationship; she hoped one day he’d let her in, but she knew she couldn’t let him walk away from her now. If she did then she might lose any chance of being with him for good.

She stepped in front of him, blocking his path. She was less than half his size and he could easily force his way past her, but she didn’t give a damn. “You’re not going anywhere Connor.”

“Why must you make everything so goddammed hard! Why can’t you just let this go?”

“Because you’re the only thing I have Connor. The only fucking good thing in my life right now!” She stepped up to him until her body was nearly flush to his and poked him in the chest with her index finger. “That’s why I won’t let you go!”

Silence came over them as they stared into each other’s eyes, the only sounds were the stomps and huffs of the horses around them.

If the silence lasted between them with her not knowing how he was feeling for another minute she’d go insane. “So, say something.”

His grey eyes grew stormy as whatever restraint he had within him broke. A low, feral-like groan came from him as he closed the slight distance between them and pulled her tight into his arms, pulling her so tight that it left her winded as his lips crashing down onto hers.

She yelped her surprise but quickly gave in to his demanding lips and tongue. The scent of his aftershave swept over her as she clung to the front of his shirt. Their tongues touched and the shiver sent through her nearly made her knees buckle under her.

Vaguely aware that he was forcing her body backward, it wasn’t until she felt a bale of hay under her that she realized they’d crossed the stable to the far end, hidden from the view of anyone who was to peek into the building. Just as her legs felt the hay he pulled back from her and tugged her t-shirt up and over her head, tossing it onto a stack of hay that was piled nearly as tall as she was. He proceeded to remove his own shirt, tossing it on top of hers.

“Connor?” She reached out to him, caressing the muscle of his chest. “What are you thinking?” When she looked up at his eyes a tremor rocked her entire body at the feral look of desire in his eyes, igniting the need between her legs.

A sexy grin spread across his face as he traced her jawline with his thumb. “I’m thinking maybe you’re right. And I’m thinking there’s no way I can stand under the same roof with you unless you’re completely mine.”

She chewed at her lower lip and shook her head. Reaching for his belt buckle she undid it and proceeded to undo his jeans. “I’m not going anywhere.”

He leaned into her, brushing his lips along the side of her neck and nipping at her lobe as he undid her jeans. Waves of pleasure rushed over her at his teasing lips and heat of his breath. “Have you even been fucked on a bale of hay before?”

The craziness of the question made her laugh outright. “Can’t say that I have.”

“Then it’s another thing to add to your list of new experiences.” He gave her a little push and she fell backward and onto the hay. She’d barely landed when his hands were working on her jeans and panties, pulling them both off and tossing them aside, leaving her completely bare to his eyes and cool morning air.

Removing her bra, she watched intently as he kicked off his boots and pulled his jeans down and off. His cock stood strong and proud before her. She started to sit up, intending to take his shaft between her lips but he stopped her, pushing her back onto the hay, spreading her legs and stepping in between them.

“There’s time for that later tonight. We only have a limited amount of time before someone comes and I want you now.”

She knew she should be concerned about someone discovering them, but she wasn’t, not even a tiny bit. “Then you’d better hurry, cowboy.” She spread her legs a little wider apart, reaching between her legs, parting her velvet lips and stroking her clit while he watched.

“The fact I didn’t fuck you last night was a miracle,” he murmured as he lowered himself between her legs and his lips latched onto her first nipple, which was beginning to tighten from the cool air. His teasing tongue circling the nub finished turning it into a tight peak, which he playfully nipped at, each nip sending a jolt of pleasure through her.

Straws of hay poked into her back and thighs, but she barely noticed as she arched her back, focusing on the sensations he was provoking within her. Grasping his shaft, she slipped it between her pussy lips sliding it back and forth along her moist slit, although she wasn’t sure who it was teasing more, her or him. His moan as he released her nipple and flicked his tongue had her moaning in response. Her pussy was throbbing
, needing to be filled by his magnificent shaft.

To her frustration each time she attempted to urge him into her, Connor would pull back. He released her second nipple and looked up and into her eyes. “I thought you said we were in a hurry,” she murmured.

A touch of a grin spread across his lips. “Good point.” He stretched up over her, positioning himself at her entrance. He slipped two fingers deep into her, stroking her inner wall and making her groan loudly.

“Fuck, you’re such a tease,” she groaned.

“Mmm. Always so wet. You have no fucking idea how much it turns me on seeing you this ready for me.” Slipping his fingers from her, she watched as he licked off her juices.

Wrapping her legs around his waist she urged him lower and into her. He resisted at first, but keeping his gaze locked to hers he slowly pushed into her. Her pussy stretched to accommodate his large girth, causing a low groan to slip past her lips.

“Ohmygod!” Her fingernails dug into his shoulders, leaving deep crescent shapes in his tanned skin. The intensity and fire within his eyes nearly brought her to climax.

“Mmm, so good Princess.” Inch by pleasurable inch he entered her until he was fully lodged within her – to the hilt. They sighed in unison as his lips lowered to hers, kissing her tenderly. “It’s been so damned long, I’d almost forgotten how good this feels.”

Samantha grinned. “I think it gets even better.”

He growled low in his throat as he claimed her lips again, but this time hard and with urgency as he pulled out and slammed back into her. She parted her lips for him, welcoming him in. As he deepened the kiss and their tongues began to frolic he began to move within her, pulling out and slamming back in at an increasingly fast pace until he was forced to pull his lips from hers and lower his forehead to her shoulder.

Her legs tightened around his waist, her heels digging into his buttocks. “Connor, oh my god!” The pressure within her increased as she climbed the summit of her desire. She bucked up into him, meeting his thrust, needing him faster, harder.

“Fuck. You’re incredible.”

“Mmmm. I’m so close.” Her body gyrated under him and each thrust made her yelp and moan. The throbbing between her legs intensified, the coil within her about to break. Just when she thought she couldn’t take another moment, the mushroom head of his dick slammed against her G-spot and sent her spiralling over the edge, closing her eyes and screaming as she came. Her pussy clenched and then released a rush of her juices around his dick.

“Oh sweet fuck. Jesus Sam.” He kissed her quickly, slipped her legs over his shoulders and stood, pulling her with him and hoisting her bottom in the air. Opening her eyes and bracing her elbows behind her, she watched as he slowly pulled out his cock, glistening with the evidence of her orgasm, until the head barely breached her entrance and then disappeared back within her.

She’d never seen such an erotic sight as seeing him disappear deep within and reappear, his abdominal muscles tensing and flexing with each thrust. Raising her eyes, her arousal was immediately re-ignited seeing the expression of intensity in his stare as he watched each movement.

Gripping her hips he began to increase his pace, grunting with each thrust. “Play with your clit, Princess. You’re going to come with me.”

Bracing herself on one elbow she used her free hand to spread her pussy lips fully, exposing her swollen nub, and began to pinch and roll her clit between her fingertips. A spike of pleasure rushed through her and she cried out. They quickly began to work in a rhythm, her bucking against her fingers and his cock, as his balls slapped softly against her ass.

“Damn, my cock looks good in you baby.”

She couldn’t voice her agreement, all words seemed to elude her. The only thing in her mind was the oh-so-sweet pleasure. She forced herself to reopen her eyes and look up at him. He looked so damned big and powerful as he stood over her, pounding her with his cock, she doubted she’d ever seen a man so sexy. And none claimed her with such force and determination. It was mere minutes before her body began bracing itself for another release.

“Oh God, I’m going to come again!”

“Good, I’m seconds from filling you sweetie.” His thrusts became wild, the force of each thrust making her breasts jiggle with the movement.
