“How is he?”

Ben turned from where he watched Audley and Stefan swim in the

lake with Nate, Keeley, and Ethan—a few of their friends—to see

Devlin standing next to him. “He’s okay.”

“Any lasting effects?” Devlin asked. “Stefan mentioned to Zac

that Audley was having a few nightmares about killing his brother.”

“He’s pretty much over those, but yeah, it was kind of hairy there

for a while.” Ben went back to watching his mates play in the water.

“I knew he suffered some terrible things at the hands of Dane and

Oliver. I just didn’t know how horrible until we found them in that

“How long did Dane torture Audley?” Devlin asked. “Has he

said? Zac knows that their father died several years ago, and

according to coven law, until Audley was mated, Dane had sole

control over him.”

“That’s such a fucking stupid law,” Ben snapped. He waved a

hand toward the water. “If Audley or Stefan had been allowed out on

their own, Dane never would have been able to hurt them. Oliver

either.”

“Our laws are set in place to protect us, Ben,” Prince Zacarius said

as he walked up to stand beside Devlin. “Our young are not in control

of themselves or their need to feed. Our laws are there to protect them

while they learn control.”

“But you have no one to investigate if those in charge are good

people or not,” Ben said. “Look what happened to Stefan and

Audley.”

“I agree, which is why I’ve set up a school and implemented a

new law that states all young must be trained at the school,” the

prince said. “I’m searching through my coven for the best-qualified

people, and I will be putting them in charge of training, with me at the

head, of course.”

“Seriously?” Ben asked in surprise.

“Very,” Prince Zacarius said as he frowned. “Stefan and Audley

ultimately fell under my leadership, and I let them down. It won’t

happen again. I’m just sorry that this change had to come at their

expense.”

“I don’t know what to say,” Ben said quietly. He felt like a heel

for yelling at the prince, but he also ached from the pain his mates

went through. “I know Stefan and Audley will both be thrilled to hear

of this. It will mean a lot to them.”

“I’ve also had several long discussions with your alpha, Daniel.

We’ve decided that the war between our people needs to end

permanently. As such, several of my new students will be

werewolves, as will some of the teachers.” Prince Zacarius’s hand

trailed down Devlin’s chest. “My handsome mate has been put in

charge of the werewolf program. I think he’ll do beautifully teaching

werewolves and vampires how to intermingle. It’s always worked for

me.”

“You’re biased,” Devlin insisted as he wrapped an arm around the

prince’s waist and pulled him close.

“Granted, but the idea is still sound,” the prince said. “Only by

learning from each other can we learn to live together. And I’d say

with the family and friends we have here, we are well on our way.”

“We are, aren’t we?” Ben looked back out at his mates. They

looked to be having a blast, laughing, playing, and splashing water at

each other. Ben suddenly felt the need to be closer to them.

“Would you hold this for me?” he asked as he held his soda out to

Devlin. The moment Devlin took the drink, Ben whipped his shirt

over his head. He glanced at Devlin and Prince Zacarius. “I have two

As Ben took off down toward the water at a full run, he heard

Prince Zacarius talking to Devlin behind him. “They’re in the water.

Ben just made it to the edge of the water when Stefan and Audley

worth in the opposite direction, Stefan right behind him. Ben waded

Stefan. He grabbed one mate and then the other, pulling them both

into his arms. They bounced in the water for a moment and then

started to sink.

Audley shrieked again and grabbed for Ben, wrapping his arms

around Ben’s neck. Stefan just laughed, but he too wrapped an arm

around Ben’s neck. Ben now held both men in his arms as he floated

in the water.

Ben backpedaled until he felt his feet touch the ground and stood

up, still holding Audley and Stefan suspended in his arms. He knew

with their shorter heights that if he let go of either of them, they

would sink. Ben wrapped his arms under their asses and lifted them

closer.

He felt their legs wrap around his waist as he leaned in to give

first Audley a kiss and then Stefan. Even if he couldn’t smell their
